One of my first conscious RW memories was hearing some jerk on the radio say that "Red Wings head coach Brad Park was fired today...I guess that's why they're called the Dead Things..." I was a kid and my parents were sitting in the front seat having a little chuckle about that, like the guy had shared an old priceless joke. Really hard to believe it's the same franchise sometimes.

That's a real shame beause he's picked up his play considerably since the playoffs. Smoother stride, etc. I don't think he's played this well since junior. That kinda thing happens when you don't go near the front of the net or the corners.

Does thinking about stopping the Oilers, Avs, Wild and Flames from scoring less than three goals a night really require that much mental focus? Anyway, there's still going to be a lack of leadership in that dressing room int he immediate future, no matter who they put the letter on. I expect it will take a few months before that dressing room is sorted out with all the new people there (Torres, Malhotra, Hamhuis, Ballard). None of those listed players has been a captain since junior. They're also still a Bieksa (~ $3.7 million) over the cap currently.

Mebda. I've always been kind of disappointed in Meech because he was a great, complete player in his last year of junior and then couldn't struggle his way beyond the 18th skater's role in seven years of pro.

I watched it, handshakes and everything to the skate around with the Cup. I wanted to know what it looked like and remind myself of what watching them lose felt like, so I could appreciate watching them win it all again in a very short time. All the bitterness I had towards Scotty and Mike Vernon and everybody on that team who disappointed me in the past evaporated when they beat Philly in 1997. Seeing them lose to the ******* Avs in 96 was like watching your girlfriend make out at a party half an hour after she dumped you. But watching in 97 I felt like everything this team had put me through since the 80s was somehow worth it. For the investment to feel worth it again, I thought if they were going to lose in a Cup final, I had to watch it. The lack of a suspension to Malkin in game 2 is a constant reminder of the fact that there are, and have always been, two different sets of rules.

Is Uwe Krupp a free agent? Seriously though at some point, you've got to admit your career is just about over, especially if you're a guy like Guerin, Tucker Nolan or Brashear, who are all in that 40 years of age range and don't really bring much of anything anymore. Just bite the bullet and sign a two-way deal if you like playing professional hockey so much and you're any of the above guys listed. I don't think you'll see many of the guys listed above sign between now and camp unless they're willing to go two-way, and potentially play in the A.

He's better than what they had. Niittymaki is a nervous breakdown waiting to happen and Griess has no experience against the league's best. I'm still hoping the Sharks don't notice the gaping hole in leadership and blueline ability with Blake gone, but this is one hole filled. And LOL @ the guy who just bent our fantasy league rules to their breaking point to add Griess to the roster over the summer.
