If we pay Garnet Exelby $1.5 million, we're making a giant, giant mistake on so many levels it isn't even funny. He's not even gritty enough for Brian Burke and the awful, awful, horrid Toronto Maple Leafs, and Burke likes nothing BUT grit from his defencemen. Maybe throw him a training camp invite, with the intention of throwing $1 million MAX at him if he makes the team. Meyer sounds interesting, but I'd like some consistency in both who he's paired with and his role on whatever team he's on to be able to fully judge him. He was also -19 in 2008-09 in 26 games, missing over half the year with a groin injury.

I thought that was 2006-10? At least some of those mid-80s Leaf teams made the playoffs.

Adam Burish: Chris Pronger Is The Biggest Idiot In The League
mjlegend replied to jeff48109's topic in General
The Wings will likely play Philly only once next year. Should we trade for a guy for a full one-way contract of nearly a million bucks to just play one game? Is that how badly we want to see the Wings win a fight against a 36-year-old has-been? Chicago turned the series over when they started hitting Pronger back. No one dropped any gloves at all. -
Coyotes-Senators in the final. Wings out in seven in the WCF with some questionable officiating by Dan O'Halloran and special guest referee Michel Therrien.

"I couldn't see him crying," explained Patrick Roy, "because I had two of my four Stanley Cup rings covering my eyes."

Toews: Most undeserving Conn Smyth winner in history?

Messier in '84 was kind of a stretch. Guess they didn't want to give Gretzky ALL the trophies in a given year. -
And until this year, that was unwise of him.

I have to imagine Bolland and Versteeg would be the easiest to move for prospects, plus maybe Seabrook, who will be demanding a pretty decent raise next offseason.

Red Line Report's Mike Remmerde talks McIlrath here: http://nhldraftnotes.blogspot.com/2010/06/dylan-mcilrath-rd-moose-jaw-whl.html As I indicated a month or so ago, I think it would take a miracle for him to drop to 21 and I'm not sure I want any prospects from the list to be headed off the other direction to trade up.

Poor Pronger.
-
Slightly OT, I wonder how many goals Maltby scored when he was in junior? ANyway, let Lebbers walk. There are enough prospects on D that need to fill the #7 role here.
-
Exelby? Nah. Johnny Boychuk is composed entirely of win.
-
Lebda? Where did he go to college?
-
If we're looking for healthy scratches on the Hawks to fill a third/fourth line role here, I'll take Troy Brouwer over Cleary. I guess Cleary is this year's LGW sacred cow though, so good for him he's got an NTC.

Would a real gritty fighter help or hurt this team?

The Wings also had a fighter on the roster this year and they didn't win the Cup. Or does the correlation only work one way? -
Poor guy.

Why do I get the feeling that in minor hockey, Kris Versteeg met 95 per cent of his teammates at the season-ending team photo? "Yeah, Kris, I was your left winger." "No kiddin'."
-
Can't believe two refs missed that. Do they need a third?
-
Maybe not anymore. I don't think I've seen a goaltender wince and flinch his way into the net since Atom.
-
If the score stays the same: do you start Boucher in game six? I wouldn't, but you could make an argument for it.
-
If you're going to dirty a guy, why Kopecky?
-
My choice for game seven hero for Philly will be Darroll Powe.

No Smythe love for Leighton?
