I love how he always goes to Gord Miller something like: "Hey, Gord, remember when we were in Aajadkjakijjakkak, Iceland in 1997 for the under-13 European C Championships and this guy Marek Liechtenstein from Lithuania was EVERYwhere on the ice? He's really blossomed under the great coaching staff here and credit to (some random 80 year old front office guy) for hiring the right guys to draft him." And Gord is like mumbling to himself, "No, Pierre. Nobody on earth remembers that."

He's been breezing by Chris Phillips pretty regularly when he goes in on the wing. I don't think Jarkko Ruutu's role is going quite the way they want either. He tackled Matt Cooke late last night in a scrum. Dude, if you want to get someone useful and get under their skin, sucker a goal-scorer like Ponikarovski or Kunitz.

Horrid idea. Wtf, Rob? Well, depending on if the Sharks lose in the first round and want to rebuild, and how this may be Lidstrom's last year playing... maybe Lids' $5 million for which we've all pencilled him in could go to Blake for a one-year deal. It's a thought.

I think just Mitchell's hurt. Not exactly like the Beatles missing McCartney for a gig. Their D is just wafer thin. Alberts is too stupid to play - which is why he's out - and IMO Rome is a better option for them anyway.

Quick's had some really shaky moments early in the playoffs. He's looked way out of position for rebounds. Slightly OT, I don't remember a playoff recently that's had so many goaltender controversies/ terrible plays by goaltenders. And ever odder, very few of them have involved Brian Boucher. You know it's a weird playoff when Craig Anderson looks like the steadiest goaltender. If Luongo's healthy, he starts. Raycroft is only in there for mop-up.

This thread is a good reminder that some people won't be happy with Hudler - or any other Wings pickup - unless he gets 200 penalty minutes and/or 100 points. Right now, I'd take the 57 points he had last year in place of Williams and/or Bert. Phoenix is beating the Wings with speed. Hudler has that.

Intend to blow. What else needs to happen at this game for it to be a disaster, a zeppelin explosion?

The 18 guys in front of him aren't really helping him that much either.

Turn arooound, Nevilllle...

That's more like it. You know what they say: you can't stop Vrbata and Prucha, you can only hope to contain them.
-
NIce try Johan, but LGW thinks this is over. Slink away, Red Wings, slink away.
-
By all means, ask Milbury what they need to do.
-
Prucha can kiss my ass.

Go Kings!!!! (later tonight) Just don't ask McCarty to sing. Or Murph for that matter. Bad ideas all around.

If we're doign the whole "panicking after one game" thing, give Williams one more game and bench Cleary for Abdelkader. At least Williams directed two pucks towards the net. Cleary wasn't anywhere to be seen for rebounds or deflections Wednesday. Christ, scratch them both. I'd rather see Lebda getting 0:00 of icetime from the bench than put in a player who isn't doing his job.

You can take the kid out of Buffalo...

Maybe he feels safer knowing the Sens don't have any 19-year-old rookies. EDIT: Wait, does he know Karlsson's only 19?
-
To be fair, I think they're including the shootout.
-
The plan should be: Go with the goalie who will win. I'll email that idea to Babs and see what he thinks.

I wear one of the Yzerman jersey, a black hooded Wings sweatshirt or a giant red Red Wings sweater, no matter what the outside temperature, during Wings games. And none of them can get washed. I also switch between two lucky mugs - an Alexander Keith's and a Red Wings one - with much the same idea and emphasis. And no shaving, except for the ol' cleanup between rounds. The 2008 and 2009 versions were much better than the 1997 and 1998 ones. Yes. Or, in 2007, my wife when she made me wash the then-lucky black hooded Wings sweatshirt just before we started sucking against the Ducks. They were something like 1-4 when I didn't wear it that year, with the last three coming after the laundry incident. Anyway, that entire playoff loss was my fault for letting her convince me to wash it. Other times in the last three years, there have been frantic searches ten minutes before games in which I try to remember shirt it was, and then if they lose, I'm convinced I got it wrong.

I admit I missed a good part of the game. Did Ken Hitchcock make the Wings bleed?
