Penguins bashing thread(keep it within the site rules please)

Well, -77 now. He's gone beyond parody and now really believes the stuff he posts. While it's all well adn good to bash certain players, let's bash their fans as well. Penguins are the team of choice of the ex-fratboy, Dane Cook-loving, 311-listening douchebag who cheats on his girlfriend-de-jour and drinks s***ty beer. He bought his Malkin jersey at Canadian Tire and when he couldn't decide to get a snowmobile or a quad, he decided to get both. He took up smoking in the last five years and, until the last couple of seasons, would hitch his badwagon to "just any Canadian team" in the playoffs. If you look in the bowels of his SUV's back seat, he's got an Oilers car flag in there somewhere. After watching the Winter Classic last year at his local Boston Pizza, he briefly thought about becoming a Hawks fan before realizing Crosby still has a few years left on his contract. Puck the Fenguins fans!

Season closing in... Your award winners?

Steve Sullivan just said "Wtf, dude?" That's basically what the award has been in the past, and I see no real desire/reason to change. Maybe Selanne gets it as a lifetime achievement and for coming back twice this year from ugly injuries. Selanne might be another nominee for the award, considering he's come back twice this year from ugly injuries and scored his 600th goal this year. Hart: Miller (Ovechkin, Bryzgalov) Norris: Keith (Chara, Green) Vezina: Miller (Bryzgalov, Luongo) Calder: Myers (Howard, Rask) Adams: Tippett (Sacco, Terry Murray) Byng: Kopitar (St. Louis, Richards) Selke: Kesler (Datsyuk, J. Staal)

3/20 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Canucks 3 (OT)

They acted like they were a couple of Vancouver fans who won a contest to broadcast the game. Kevin Weekes, in particular, always sounded so unprepared and the two of them don't have any chemistry at all. Your tax dollars at work.

    History Will Be Made

How about one with Malkin throwing punches at the end of Game 2 last year? Fights backwards are funny. Or maybe get one of Bettman in his office rescinding the game misconduct?

    Favorite Red Wings swede

    1. Lidstrom. 2. Zetterberg and Franzen. Then probably Holmstrom at fourth.

3/19 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Oilers 3 (SO)

"The Wings lost in a shootout of a regular season game! I'm buying a Penguins jersey!AHOUaskjsjdkkskjsdksdkbHD(*FG(" Thank goodness most of these people stayed away from the gun cabinet after last night. I'd be worried if I lived in some places. Ultimately, for all the wrist-slitters, there's no doubt the Wings shoulda played better in the first period but that's about it. For whatever reason this year, Edmonton has our number. They block shots well and clog up lanes better than their defensive record says they do. I'd have loved to see them turn around their record against the Oilers but any NHL team's really tough after four days of video golf and making pictograms and whatever the hell else they did up in the Okanagon. I'd glad they're going to be playing Vancouver with Babs pissed off and the entire team thinking about the point they just gave away. Anyone notive the Pens just shat the bed against Columbus? It happens to the best teams. BTW all, whoever misses the playoffs in the West will probably have eight or nine points more than Boston or Atlanta or the Rangers or whoever else fails their way into the East #8.

    Bruins - Penguins

Spinelss performance. Either beat them on the ice or beat them in the alley after all the build-up. I'd be surprised if they made the playoffs this year after that Virtue and Moir performance. At least somewhere, Jack Edwards is pissed off and I think that makes me happy on some level.

    Eight games for Wisniewski

Agree in principle, but there have been numerous options to do that to other players in the last two weeks.

    Eight games for Wisniewski

Do I agree with this post? Yes. This is an open sign from the NHL: Just be careful how you injure a Hawks defenceman. These are the following tips you need to be aware of if you're thinking of dangerously clobbering a Hawks blueliner. 1) Be Ovechkin. 2) Don't charge from 3,000 feet away. 3) Cross check from behind, not hit in the chest from the front.

Are the Wings staying in Alberta?

It snowed like the Dickens here yesterday and I'm sure it'll eventually head down to Calgary/Edmonton. If that doesn't get there, then there's something in the Pacific Northwest that'll hit you guys pretty hard. But frick, we had great weather for six weeks. Hardly the Arctic wasteland that some people seem to think it is in March.

    No suspension for Cooke

  12. Verbeek. Not your fault we didn't win in 2000, you little ball of hate you. He's currently a scout for the Wings too, so he's currently in the NHL AFAIC.

    Calgary at Colorado tonight

    Holmstrom and Wings talking contract

Love Homer at $2 million or less, but again like others have said, only a one year deal. Too much of an injury history combined with the cap not going up. If he feels he's got another year of good hockey in him, more power to him. Somewhere, Jake Ryan is a snivelling mess.

    Ovie Suspended

I have another $5 that says Dale Tallon is just now trying to call, asking for a suspension.

3/15 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Flames 1

And Calgary collectively says: "Thank God we traded for all those Leafs! They brought that good mojo with them!" Frick, that was too close.

3/15 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Flames 1

Yeah, with Letterman it's not like there's any chance we'll see Crosby's name and face pop up.

    Ovie ejected

Because Maxim Lapierre is French-Canadian. Or at least, that's how La Presse will spin it. Two games isn't quite as much as I wanted, but is still a hit to the Caps - who came back against Chicago and won without him anyway. BTW, if anyone hasn't figured out from the Malkin instigator in last year's final that there's a different system of justice to the star players than to the Lapierres of the league, it may be too late to save them.

The other angle on this story is that Campbell might be done for the season. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2010/03/15/sp-nhl-take-5-campbell-ovechkin.html If, as some people have suggested, people should be suspended for the length of time the player they injure is out, then that would have knocked two teams down a peg in the hunt for the Cup. I say he gets three and gets put on double secret probation. One more dangerous hit-related game misconduct and it's season-ending time for him. The OTHER favorite angle on LGW is - who was Chicago's tough guy on the ice at the time (Byfuglien? Brouwer? Eager?) and, knowing the dangerousness of the hit and the reaction of Campbell, why didn't said tough guy do anything about the hit?

Steve Downie with another questionable play

Poor Sid was so hurt, he played 23:44 of the game today, more ice time than any other skater. If it was intent to injure, it was a very poor result. I would think if Downie really wanted to injure a guy, he'd do it with a blindside check behind the net instead of a trip near the boards where his legs get caught.

    Retired Jerseys?

I should also add that IMO if a number is retired, somebody basically needs to be a criminal in order to have that honor taken away. I'm not talking tax evasion or breaching probation by drinking a glass of wine, I mean something really awful. Aurie needs to be up there.

    Retired Jerseys?

And Red Kelly fails five, unless I'm missing a Kid Rock album somewhere. In general, though, there needs to be a minimum standard before it becomes even worth mentioning. Delvecchio was second in league scoring history when he retired after 22 years as a Wing. We'll give him a pass. Sawchuk has four Vezinas and a Calder. I could amend my list to include "Captaining/Was starting goaltender on multiple Cup winning teams". He had 103 shutouts, most of which was with Detroit (85). Multiple NHL first team all star. Four of the five. Abel worries me because so much of what he did was because of his linemates. It reeks of Hab-ism to have him up there IMO. If he's up there, you can't make an argument about Feds not being up there. I'm not going to argue about Ted Lindsay because he's been such a longtime part of the organization and the alumni club it would be foolish. I think he could also beat the crap out of me.

    Retired Jerseys?

There should be a minimum standard stated before consideration even begins: - At least one Hart Trophy or at least five combined Norris/Vezina/Selke/Conn Smythe Trophy wins as a Red Wing - Multiple first-team NHL player as Red Wing, or top ten in a major career scoring/goaltending statistical category while spending at least 75 per cent of prime career as Red Wing. - Captaining multiple Red Wings teams to Stanley Cups - overwhelming fan/community support for the player on and off the ice. - namechecked in a Kid Rock album cut. IMO at least four of these criterion must be met.
