He also didn't say he wouldn't trade him for a pizza, either. If Halak is peoples' idea of a budding star, I dunno anymore. I don't see him as an upgrade on Howard plus the fact he's a RFA in seven months who will be likely looking for Dan Ellis-type money. His agent is a bit of a pushy dick.

You're right, this organization should do everything it can to emulate the Islanders and Panthers' way of dealing with players. Shame on the Red Wings! Oh wait, I woke up and suddenly I'm not retarded anymore. Yay me!!1!!!! Playing with a winning organization isn't you're God-given right once you've been drafted. If you can't take a couple of years in the AHL like Hudler, Howard, Ericsson, Helm and others, then you look like a crybaby. Good luck finding another organization because I'd like to think Kenny won't move him unless he absolutely has to.

Did You Guys Know Kirk Maltby Was a 50-Goal Scorer In Juniors?
mjlegend replied to RedWingsFanatic's topic in General
Kris Newbury, he of the 42 goals in the OHL about 10 years ago, is on pace to score 50 NHL goals if he plays every game the rest of the season. -
You would almost think the Red Wings management believes Helm to be better than Newbury... hmmmm

Should the Wings Allow Players to Play in the Olympics?
mjlegend replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I will defend this to my death: Yzerman's overall helping of the Red Wings organization >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Yzerman's overall hurting of the Red Wings organization For a chronic injury like Yzerman's knee was towards the end, who's to say he wouldn't have hurt it in the first round of the playoffs anyway, and it would have continued to hurt him in '03? I agree with the general principle that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, but since an eye injury knocked him out of the last two games of the first round of the playoffs against Calgary in '04, were you also pissed off that he didn't wear a full face shield at any point in his career? Because wearing a full face shield that night would have kept him in the lineup, and every time he's not in the lineup he's hurting the team, by your logic. -
Should the Wings Allow Players to Play in the Olympics?
mjlegend replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
It's supposed to, but it doesn't exactly do this. To pull the chute on participation in the Olympics to rest for the Cup run is weaksauce. I would imagine if Holland could do that - and as far as I know he can't - that would be effectively the last Swedish or Russian or Czech or Canadian player the Wings ever signed. Does anyone remember 2002? Anyone? -
Now, I want someone to start a "Datsyuk SUCKS" thread.
-
I was kind of suprised it wasn't there when I got here. Good job for Bert for getting shots through. He's not the same player he was in 2001, but who is? Cheers for a Wings win against a hated opponent and here's hoping they can keep it up against the Nashville (Sexual) Predators.

I think you mis-spelled 'Crosby' again.

Sorry I didn't notice the other thread. Krutov excepted, the Cold War Russians were all in exceptional shape from the moment they came over - Fetisov and Larionov being among the cream of that crop. If there is a 51-year-old who can step into the lineup in a pinch, it's Fetisov. The KHL has a much shorter season so he probably won't get burned out as fast as he would in the NHL.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=509358&...%20in%20English And you thought Chelly was past it. I always thought Fetisov was a highly underrated member of the 97-98 teams.

I hear Claude Lemieux's husband apparently hated the cold weather in Colorado.

As I said only a week or so ago, I really miss his special brand of crazy. I'd still take him at a $2 milion, but there's no way he's worth more than that. IMO the Wings are patiently awaiting his return. I notice they haven't let anyone wear his coveted #95.

TSN is saying "At least two months" as of Nov. 8. So, maybe in about six weeks? He did break his leg and those things aren't easy to come back from. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/injuries/ Jason Williams 2009-11-08 on injured reserve and is expected to miss at least two months broken right fibula

I think we're all disappointed in his scoring rate, but again like a lot of people have said, a lot can be attributed to the sharper focus being paid to him since he emerged as a legitimate Hart candidate. He's far from over the hill, and far from even the 'getting up there' point in his career. I am confident he will turn it around as I always thought he was more passer and splaymaker rather than deadly goal-scorer. Maybe Dr. Rahmani has some answers? Now: His 2009 2.01 GAA and .926 svp are still better than his career playoff record. To tsk-tsk a goalkeeper for not maintaining 1.55 and .930 is a bit harsh. Remember - Brodeur hasn't approached those numbers in the playoffs since 2003 and he's a mortal lock to be on Team Canada and nobody questions this. I'm Ron Burgundy?

Random AHL d-man >>>> Lebda, Meech

If nothing else develops from this thread, at least I've been pleasantly reminded that this year's goaltending depth appears better than the crew of has-beens like Vince Riendeau and Peter Ing that had the nerve to wear red and white 16 years ago. Jimmy Howard has been OK, but April to June goaltending is Osgood's forte. I don't care what the regular season numbers are saying - I'd only put Howard in if Ossie really poops the bed and the Wings are down 3-0 in a series. And even then I'd have to think twice.
-
Columbus has to be given a reason to want that contract. Is Tyutin on the outs?
-
Phoenix and Colorado will only go where their stellar goaltending will take them this year. That could be sixth to 15th. LA seems to have a bit more going for them this year, and I think if they swing a deal for another centre, they could end up fourth or fifth. What I find more interesting (among the teams that aren't Detroit) is that Vancouver would be out of the playoffs. I don't think anyone would have predicted that.

That's not manning up in my books. That's childish "How come if I do this, I get suspended but he can get away with it?" Would it really have made any difference in his world if Ovechkin gets suspended for a different hit in a different game in another division? He's just rationalizing this so it makes him look like the good guy. Be careful about feeling sympathy for a guy who put a dangerous knee-on-kneww hit that knocked out a player for two months. It's called punishment, Georgy. Doesn't matter what Malkin does. Doesn't matter what Ovie does. It's what you did. And if you still don't get it, I hope the next suspension for a knee-on-knee hit on a player doesn't involve the Red Wings again.
-
I read it. He's played in the league for 12 years now, time to just admit he did something in the heat of the moment that was at the very least exceptionally dangerous to another player's career, man up and take the five. Not like they really missed him.
-
Because Osgood isn't Crosby. Jimmy Howard's numbers have been very impressive, but I think Osgood's are also better compared to last season. They've turned into a pretty good one-two punch in net in the regular season right now. Now, the defence on the other hand... I think we can pretty safely bash a lot of them at this point.

Lids had two assists tonight as well.... (waiting)
