Out of all the players wearing red and white, he certainly had the most to play for. And despite the obvious motivation, he failed to be a positive difference maker. If it's a really long contract (eight years/$50 mil) then we may be able to see the real fruits of this when the NHL and world economies aren't in the crapper. There might come a day when this apparent deal looks like the bargain of the century. Right now, it sure doesn't.

How many goons did Pittsburgh have this year? Just Godard, right? And how many shifts did he get to have in the playoffs?

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_dadd...?urn=nhl,169676 I'm having trouble posting photos today, but: http://a323.yahoofs.com/ymg/ept_sports_nhl...mmuvZBDKSM5UKC8 If the Red Wings locker room was looking for bulletin board material for Friday, it may have found it. Bill Guerin thinks its funny when Michganders lose their jobs.

Or this: EDIT: Looking at that photo, I can't believe he'd have needed ID to get anywhere in a hockey rink...

He didn't create the sign but he certainly had no problem posing right next to it. It's completely unecessary and lacks the kind of compassion one has for his fellow man. I think this is much more egregious than those message board comments about Konstantinov because it's a 38-year-old player doing it. He's a smug millionaire smirking at the thousands of people who lost their jobs. People who have would gladly paid him millions to play the game in their state. I hope the media blows this up on him and he's really contrite going into tomorrow's game.

He's certainly saying he doesn't want to be offered a contract by the Wings this off-season, isn't he?

Win it so this ****** doesn't get a chance to lift the Cup in Detroit: http://s3.amazonaws.com/twitpic/photos/lar...ickKlcqOAwsQ%3D

No, he's just French-Canadian. PoTAYto, PoTAHto, I guess to some but there is a small difference.

I may need therapy at some point this month if a s***ty call in OT leads to the Penguins (or, more specifically Crosby) getting the winning goal.

Hey Burkie, take Pronger while you're at it, K?
-
Errrm... well, let's just say it'll be much easier without Sykora on the ice.

I will appreciate Crosby's play this series mush more if we find out afterwards that he's been playing with an injury. But generally, apart from a sporting goods manufacturer, sport drink, or coffee shop commercial or seven, he hasn't really shown anything to me that he "wants it" any more than any other player on the ice. It might be Z's checking, but quite frankly, I've wondered the past couple of games if he hasn't been playing through an injury that's affected his mobility.

How can anyone blame the Refs for any of the Wings' losses?
mjlegend replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
I'm generally with Arms-Crossed Guy on this, but the standard of officiating has changed from this round to the regular season, all in the name of "letting them play." If the Ducks were allowed to get away with the kinds of things both teams have gotten away with all series, they'd have won over either team in five. -
And the Penguins are playing for the Stanley Cup!

Are you the Penguins fan who told someone on this board to kill themselves? I'm having trouble remembering why I put the "ignore" on for you. -
Word!

If I'm a GM, I'd take Pogge as a #2 if my team's goaltending future looked s***ty. I may be in the minorty saying this in 2009, but I still think Justin Pogge > Jimmy Howard, leaving McCollum out of the equation.
-
No kidding. She's made it up to fourth line grinder status, which indicates a Dahmer-like obsession with the Wings.

The clock is lazy and useless! -
To Minny for Mikko Koivu, Josh Harding and a pick, Sens to push hard to sign Saku Koivu on July 1.

I was all set to buy a new jersey last weekend but I couldn't bring myself to do it. My wife took one look at the red Edge jerseys on display in a store in Edmonton and said "Wow, that's ugly." She bought me a white Yzerman for Christmas nine years ago... but she was right. For $110 jerseys (no name and number), they look like they're pieced together with really thin material. So I'd go old school. Never thought I'd miss the swoosh. The Yzerman jersey has held up through a long time, and is probably one of the oldest pieces of clothing I own. The next RW jersey I get will be either old school red Shanny or a WC Dats.

Emotionally it feels like it's lasted about six months. Not that I'm complaining... I'll take this over 2003. ***'s just that the anticipation of each game is all-consuming. I looked yesterday at a picture of the reaction of Abdelkader after his game 1 goal this series, and it felt like I saw that goal a month ago. It reminds me of last year when I saw Mark Hartigan on the ice for the Cup celebrations and went, "Oh, yeah. He played in the first round." Time freaking flies.

Agreed that it's been a fun ride, but geez does Columbus ever seem like a lifetime ago. If I had a point in my OP, it's just that this year has been a long, emotional roller coaster, and not just on the calendar. Maybe the only change I'd make in the playoff format is to make the first place team in each conference get five home playoff games in the first round and do a 3-2-2. That would make first in the conference something you really want to get, and not just for a potential matchup six weeks into the playoffs.
