Wonder how the Aaron Ward-Scott Walker handshake will go...
-
These are the kinds of fans who don't troll, like 3/4 of the Duck fans who were here for a couple of weeks this year. Kudos to this fine human.

What did you just do?

I like listening to Mickey sometimes, but I hope to God he didn't actually sing it. If he did, was it with Method Man?

Freep's Mitch Albom is looking for Tomas Holmstrom to contribute something in Game 7. http://www.freep.com/article/20090513/COL0...3113/1082/rss12 Do it, Tomas. Score goals, pls!

I see Flip, Huds, Cleary, Datsyuk and most of the rest getting good chances or setting things up. I don't see that from Homer, even on the power play. Homer simply hasn't been the same player he ws in last year's run. A major part of the reason, IMO, is that the Ducks are giving him a lot of attention and not all of it is clean. Whenever the Wings have possession on the PP, he's practically wearing Niedermayer's jersey. But it's not like he hasn't been the centre of a team's defensive efforts before. I hope he's not hurt, and if he is hurt I applaud him for giving his all while injured. I hope he scores a few goals tonight. But I'm also hoping he can walk away from the game while he can still physcially walk away from the game.

If he's injured to the point of not being able to do his job, maybe he should take the night off and put someone in who can. Fact is, Holmstrom hasn't done much this series and is a far cry from the 1998-2008 Homer we loved to watch go to the net and park there. Unless something drastic changes in the next few weeks, my memory of him from this year's playoff is going to be his elbow.

Sorry, I meant to say "Does this have anything to do with how 29 teams play the game to win in 2009?" Comparing this to how the Wings won in 1997 is like comparing apples to turtles.

Both of the last two seasons have been roller coasters with major coaching drama, huge trades and injuries to their stars that just seem to cripple them for weeks at a time. I don't see how that's a sustainable hockey business model. They have some excellent building blocks in place but until the cap goes up, they're going to be up and down like the price of oil because they can't afford to have all those superstars and good team chemistry.

Keith Jones couldn't even spell PTI, let alone try to figure a way to argue both sides of an argument.

2008-09 Norris Trophy winner (according to a surprising amount of LGW posters) Mike Green: 1 goal in 14 games, -5 in the playoffs, -3 tonight. Still don't want him on my team unless he spends a year in Grand Rapids first.

Do any of the Wings currently look like Draper did moments after the Le-turtle hit, meaning that retribution is necessary? No. Are they losing an occasional fight right now when the game's over or decided? Yes. Does this poll have anything to do with 2009? Nope.

Screw the "soccer on ice" (as Micah once put it) that leads to goals and saves, there should be a six-on-six brawl at the beginning of every game. The team that loses that is deducted two "man points". The rest of the game should be decided with who can cheap-shot the other team dirtier, with the dirtier, more manly team getting man points. Elbows to the head are allowed and encouraged. Christ, Brian Burke might have 12 Stanley Cup rings by now.

Right, Datsyuk is so dirty, he's won the last three Lady Byngs. I wish I saw the skirmish you witnessed. It sounds like it would have been fun. Instead, I had the misfortune of seeing what actually happened.

Back in the non-cap days, that was a possible move. Add in the fact that he really wanted out of Hartford, so the Whalers' hands were kind of tied and that made it somewhat easier to acquire him. I DARE you to find another player like the 1996-97 Shanahan currently in the NHL: 46 goals and 131 penalty minutes. That kind of player simply doesn't exist anymore. Backes and Hartnell are the only ones whose numbers are close. Getzlaf is too much of a playmaker and not enough of a shooter. He's also untouchable on the Anaheim roster. Even in a non-cap world, there's no way they let him go for what would amount to Rafalski and a pick. So we're all basically just pining for the days when the 1997 Wings dressed players who don't exist in 2009. Gotcha. I wouldn't be averse to picking up another Dallas Drake-type in place of one of our wingers next year, because I do think the Wings have stuck to close to the periphery this round, but I have no idea who that would be. Maybe sign Bill Guerin for a discount of 1 year/$3 million? Honestly, I like the fact that Kenny's in control of this team and not me.

After the whistle beatdowns and suckerpunches are very likely the kind of stuff that keep the NHL on Versus in the US. Few inside or outside of the sport can understand how this and the Walker suckerpunch can possibly unpenalized by the league office.

One TSN programming consultant was heard to say: "There are NHL playoffs west of Toronto? Who knew?" Seriously TSN had first dibs and they took Boston/Carolina? Each of the Staal brothers must have started an email campaign or something...

Freaking name-dropper...

WTF? No one's fighting in this one yet. I thought someone would be in the message-sending mood with this scoreline.
-
Slightly OT: I wonder what Scotty Bowman was thinking when he saw the paltry fine from the league yesterday when Scott Walker surprise-punched Aaron Ward: "You mean I could have done that 12 years ago without getting suspended? Damn..."

Someone can do a quick photoshop of "FAIL" for this shot the next time the Wings play in Vancouver.

Schadenfreude alert! Canucks message board are losing their minds and the site is slow to the point of collapsing, likely from a rush of fans to ***** about their team. http://forum.canucks.com/index.php?showtop...540&st=2740

If it's like the first round, I would assume two days after the last potential Game 7. By my figuring, that would be Saturday.
