A dry island isn't something you need to do with a 20-year-veteran of the NHL. On this team. if drinking was an issue it would be dealt with before it got to Babcock, in-house by the on-ice leadership group. Based on pictorial evidence, Richards, Carter and a few other players (most of whom have been dumped for pennies on the dollar in the last 24 months) were having more than just a glass of wine every night. If you can't stop drinking for a month because your boss is concerned that you're not doing your job to your peak ability - and Carter/Richards' numbers have dropped significantly in the last three years - then you do have an issue. It should not have been brought through the media without a good, substantive on-the-record source. If there is a serious drug/alcohol issue in an NHL dressing room, it ought to be dealt with by the team way before anonymous teammates go ratting to the local rumour-monger.

And some people wanted us to sign Upshall . . .

Mike did a very good job of appeasing both the people who wanted him to wear 64 and those who prefer he didn't. I've always thought a # should be a special personal choice that also respects the jersey and not a vanity license plate or an advertisement. A defenceman for the junior Portland Winter Hawks about 10 years ago chose the number 31 because that's the age his father was when he died. I think about things like this, and Gordie wearing a red and white #9 proudly for over two decades, when I think about petitions like this. 22 wasn`t always inhabited by a waste of a jersey. Dino Ciccarelli was the first to come to mind.

Great competitor, great wheels, great in faceoffs. Had some pretty good hands, too (had a 24 goal season). With another, lesser team I'm sure he would have been a second liner but he was content to play a supporting role on a winning team - the ultimate team player. Still probably more of a holdover than the 2009-2010 Hawks vs the 2011-12 Hawks.

I thought Shanahan could have retired a Wing after one more year in red and white. I wasn't totally bothered that he left. For me, I don't get the Fedorov attraction either. He held out for a ridiculous amount of cash after winning the Cup in 1997 signed a contract with Carolina and clearly wanted out long before he left the team. Fantastic, unbelievably, fast skilled and versatile player but dear God, what a drama queen. He rejected $10 million a year (pre-lockout) to play for the Wings when he was UFA. I knew he wouldn't have the success elsewhere that he had with the Wings.

Devils leave Doc Emrick? Wtf dude?

1) Yzerman, no doubt. 2) Shanahan. I was kind of bummed that Coffey had to be part of the deal, but it turned out well. 3) Shea Weber. 4) Martin LaPointe. Larionov leaving also disappointed me. 5) Todd Gill/Larry Murphy/Bob Rouse. Rouse and Murphy worked out well. Still, the concept of getting ancient ex-Leafs defencemen never appealed to me. Also, I didn't think Hasek the second time around would ever work out but in a way, I suppose it did.

If they aren't going to retire it, and they probably shouldn't, they should take #30 out of circulation for a few years, then in 2018-19 or something re-introduce it.

I guess New Jersey is too far of a DRIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!
-
Seeing Boston fans in any sport reminds me of how much I really don't like Jimmy Fallon.

And sometimes you have to be aggressive or the opportunities present themselves to other teams. We lost a very good offensive player on the blueline - one of the best in the last ten years - and we didn't replace him with anything but the hopes that the #6 from last year (Ericsson) gets better because he has a bigger contract and Ian White. So we have the same/slightly worse team as/than last year, plus $6 million in cap room. I don't call that a very good off-season.
-
Brad Stuart isn't anything special either. His last healthy year, he had 20 points, 22 PIM and was -12. If we got somebody like that on July 1, wouldn't consider that a marquee signing. He's a somewhat servicable second-pairing guy (like White in that way) but we still need someone to replace Rafalski's PP presence and 45-60 points a year - and White will never be that guy. So, given what we had to replace I'd give Ken a solid C-plus.

How is this turning into a Howard thread? I agree a few posts up - most Wings goals against are actually Hudler's fault if you rewind the tape far enough.
-
Sorry, I thought this was a thread where we're asked if we could be given the chance, would we like to drive a street grader over Holland? And I'd say "I'm disappointed with our huge, mega off-season signing is journeyman Ian 'Four Teams in 18 months' White, but that's no reason to resort to violence."
-
Guess it kinda has to be Conklin now, doesn't it? Veteran guy, knows the Wings, won't expect to start now, etc.
-
More intensity in the first period. More consistent performances from the 2-4 lines.
-
He was never a top three alltime player, or a Leaf or a Hab, so no. He's really the only reason to watch the NHL at this point.
-
Quidditch itt.
-
So all we need to do is send Ferraro, McCollum and a third round pick for Semin and Vokoun and we're set.
-
Ian Brown lookalike skeleton ITT
-
Looking at his record, including a year in GR, I have one reaction:
-
You're -3 now Travis for that. It's like you're Christian Ehrhoff on a SCF game.
-
Yeah. Sadly, I think some people would actually go for that. I don't think anyone except for Nash and Carter is an upgrade individually on what we've got.
-
Hudler, Kindl and a first for Dorsett. Make it happen, Kenny!
