His back is skating? That's pretty incredible! I wonder how many hernia operations he is from retiring. He turned 36 last month and this will be two straight years of < 60 regular season games. His back is so black and blue after games right now it probably resembles a July thundercloud. I hope he retires while he can still walk. He'd be an invaluable asset to the coaching staff.

For some reason I see Flipper with a huge game here. The Wings' overall speed and skill is too much for the Kings to try to contain Detroit's second and third lines at the Joe. 3-0 Detroit. Osgood with 11 saves.

Jesus, I can't remember the last Wings player with a moustache. Do we have to go all the way back to Harold Snepsts?
-
Noticed Claude Lemieux is a healthy scratch tonight. Did he play his last game as a Shark Wednesday?
-
Seeing that first NHL goal he scored really gave everyone a glimpse into the kind of offensive player he can become. Considering his age (25), I expected a lot from him, and I have been pleasantly surprised. Whoah now, let's not get carried away!

2-for-7? What the hell is wrong with the power play? FIX IT, KENNY!
-
My guts right now: Neil for a couple of high draft picks (second round 2009, third round 2010,) Havelid for a D prospect (Smith?). This could change with the trades the other teams in the conference make.

Oh, well. I'm not going to freshen it up. But if it helps progress the argument, I also think the Sharks don't have any stamina to fight through a serious forechecking attack. Dallas was brilliant last year and I don't think I really gave the Stars the credit they deserved for finding the Sharks weak link and exploiting the hell out of it. As the games kept going on and on scoreless, and Dallas kept the pressure on, it really forced the Sharks into making mistakes. As Dalls got into the driver's seat in that series, the Sharks proved too brittle. It's nice to watch Fatty Marleau and Slow Thornton and Devon WearstheGucci in their tic-tac-toe precision against the Kings and the Coyotes, but they need some heretofore unseen grit if they want to be taken seriously in the post-season. If you don't think it's a weakness, you're kidding yourself. They're also a Dan Boyle injury away from having a very, very weak power play blueline.

How about throwing turtles on the ice? Or if that's too inhumane for those who clean the ice, turtle shells? Just thinking out loud here...
-
You can throw Wade Redden and his $6 million a year in there, too.
-
Seto's up there for me too. Rositslav Klesla. Tim Thomas. I think the rest of my hatred is rational.
-
Shane Doan at $4.5 million a year is a steal.

I'd love to see that in an injury report... P. Boucher (left foot surgery, injured reserve); S. Crosby (******, day to day).

Is it time to make some major moves for this year's playoff run?
mjlegend replied to boomer's topic in General
I remember Roberts was a healthy (and very unhappy) scratch in the first couple of games in the Finals last year. I'm not saying he wasn't effective when he was on the ice (I remember him most for punching a recently-concussed Franzen), but I'd only want Roberts if Neil's asking price is way too high (First round pick) or the Wings literally can't find someone younger and faster. -
I love that if you're an NHL coach, somebody can fire you and force you not to work for the balance of your contract. Just pay Torts his money and let him ruin the Rangers.

Someone in the "Renney fired" thread wants Colton Orr. I presume they've never seen him skate because, well, no one has. He couldn't play in this offence. I'd take a fourth line energy winger in the Chris Neil/Jamal Mayers mold. Unless you're adding Ken Dryden, changing goaltenders right now really doesn't do you any good. -
Not with Lalime they don't. EDIT: Sorry, looking at the wrong roster.

This has been beaten to death, but imagine the reception had he waived his no-trade clause and accepted a deal to a contender for a pick and prospects instead of taking a free agent deal the next year? They might not be 14 points out of the playoffs right now if he'd done that and be playing meaningful hockey right now instead of this multi-year rebuilding plan they're in.
-
Sorry. Didn't realize the HoF was strictly about playoff accomplishments. Sorry Mr. Gilbert Perrault, Broken 16 doesn't quite think you belong in there.... hand us that plaque.

It'd be a sad day if he gets to the HOF before Dino.

I know Montreal never really struck me as a cohesive team, but I wonder who in management knew what and when. Basically: did Gainey knew about this and sent Sergei to Hamilton to try to hide the problem?
-
Ms. Bardot, Brad Stuart was a stud D-man in junior, a pure offense-type who fought a few times but Regina didn't really need him to do any more of the fisticuffs (they had Kyle Freadrich and Barret Jackman handling most of that). Not all Western Canadian 6'2" defencemen are fighters (see: Eric Brewer).

Can you make my 2 and 1/2 year old stay in bed all night instead of getting up in the middle of the night to join his parents?

Freaking hilarious.

I can't stop laughing at this.
