  1. I get: > Richards, Dal > Lucic, Bos > Brunnstrom, Dal > Enstrom, Atl > 4th round pick 2009 > 11th 2009 > 5th 2010 I give up: > Dumont, NAS > Lidstrom, Det > 1st 2009 > 3rd 2009 > 2nd 2010 I give up a lot of draft position this year and I'm not exactly going to the league title this year... I'll likely go for it, because most of the time it's only goalies available in the first round or two.

    Vezina Poll on NHL.com

Or for a more recent example, the Mike Komisarek of nhl.com Vezina polls...
  3. And there's a dispersal draft of Coyotes players . . . And let's say the league does reverse order of current NHL standings . . . Who do we take with the 27th overall pick? The players taken would have to be able to fit under the cap (or replace players currently underperforming). I was thinking about this this morning and after some deliberation with the first three picks, came up with the following list: I based it on which players would best fit into the needs of the teams in the rest of the league and the types of players they normally take. Plus, if there's a guy with a connection to another team, I generally had him going to that team (Reinprecht - COL, Ruzicka - BOS). 1. NYI: Shane Doan 2. OTT: Ilya Bryzgalov 3. ATL: Ed Jovanovski 4. TBY: Keith Yandle 5. STL: Olli Jokinen 6. TOR: Kyle Turris 7. LA: Michael Boedker 8. DAL: Peter Mueller 9. NSH: Daniel Carcillo 10. EDM: Kurt Sauer 11. MIN: Viktor Tikhonov 12. CLM: Derek Morris 13. PIT: Ken Klee 14. COL: Steve Reinprecht 15. FLA: Todd Fedoruk 16. ANA: Enver Lisin 17. BUF: Zbeynek Michaluk 18. CAR: Kevin Porter 19. VAN: Daniel Winnik 20. NJ: Mikael Tellqvist 21. CHI: Garth Murray 22. NYR: Joakim Lindstrom 23. CAL: Brian McGratton (susp) 24. PHI: David Hale 25. MTL: Brett MacLean 26. WSH: Nick Ross 27. DET: Chris Summers 28. BOS: Vladimir Ruzicka 29. SJ: Al Montoya Beyond what's in the Show right now, Phoenix' prospects are somewhat disappointing. While Michigan kid Summers is . . . OK . . . the only way a dispersal draft becomes of any real use to the Wings is if there are a pair of teams (or more) folding.

    Osgood Eyeing Sawchuk

I don't think race had anything to do with Fuhr getting into the HoF, unless the league is biased towards "Northern Albertans". If it does, Peace River's Chris Osgood should have it made.

    Osgood Eyeing Sawchuk

If we're playing that game, then Fuhr getting into the All-Star game was easier for him in an 11-team conference in the original 21 days than Osgood in a 13-15 team conference for the last 10-12 years. I personally had problems with Fuhr getting in simply because it was so freaking easy to win the cup when you have the best offense in NHL history in front of you in case you screw up. He also lost two post-Oilers NHL starting jobs before getting injured (in a year that he played 79 regular season games in). Really, everything after 1990 doesn't look good on Fuhr's resume, so you're basically left with so-so numbers after a six-year period of being very good on a killer team.

    Your (Homer) Statements Here

The Wings have the best goaltending tandem in the league. Jiri Hudler > Ales Hemsky.

If the Phoenix Coyotes folded today . . .

With as many money-losing deadbeats out of the way, perhaps the remaining NHL teams would be better positioned to make more money and push the cap up a couple million. What I'm saying is that when the league calculates all league revenues, the total overall figure would be down, but the per-team revenue would undoubtedly (IMO) be higher, if that makes any sense. EDIT: Not only are they getting low revenues, the league's revenue-sharing isn't going to help them as much as they may have thought: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3827740 I really think it's a matter of when, not if, the Coyotes are dealt with by the league.

If the Phoenix Coyotes folded today . . .

Klee is a bargain at 1.25 million and as a #6/7 defenceman under the cap. If the 'Yotes struggle down the stretch and shed salary, there will be a few takers for him. Even a team close to the cap would love to find room to add a Shane Doan or a Kyle Turris for nothing.

1/12 GDT: Dallas Stars 5, Red Wings 4 (OT)

I'd like to see 6-1 again, gentlemen. See what you can do about that if you would.

If the Phoenix Coyotes folded today . . .

(smacking forehead) DAMN! Forgot Hanzal. I'll try again tonight or tomorrow morning ... Ultimately, I don't know if the Coyotes will fold or not, but I was thinking on the weekend, spurred on by another thread here, IF the scenario played out, what would happen...Two divisions of seven teams in each conference? Ultimately, I think the franchise in the biggest trouble in the east has to be TBAY. I also think it could be a very good hockey market if they were given a reasonable team, but it's January and their average attendance, according to the ESPN numbers, is a rather blah 14,733. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/attendance?year=2009 In 2001, with a fairly decent team that was above .500, they were 14,224. I have a strong suspicion the numbers have been inflated for this year with giveaways. I think the city has been given a fair shake at trying to host an NHL team - and it's certainly more of a fair shake than when they had to leave Winnipeg. But Winnipeg's situation has changed as well when they got a smaller building for the AHL. I don't think they're going to spend more 10s of millions to get another building or renovate the one they just got. The Leafs and Sabres will nix any team going to Hamilton or Kitchener, and I don't think Quebec City is hankering for another NHL chance. Sentimentally, I want to see the NHL in Winnipeg, but they only way that realistically happens is if they win Kraft's Hockeyville contest. That essentially leaves Kansas City and Seattle/Portland. Is there anything about the current global and local economic situation that would lead one to think those cities can have any more success than the NHL in Phoenix? I don't see it. A lot of non hockey fans going to say: "I've never gotten into hockey before and it's $300 for my family to see the hockey team play against who? Ottawa? Where's that?" I also originally thought JOVO would be a good fit in a Brian Burke team, but I didn't want him there.

    Sadly, today, yes...

    Bruins fans are dumb...

There, I fixed that typo for you. We can talk about Yzerman all we want, but after that goal, the Canucks were tremendously fragile and folded at the wrong time. No matter how Steve plays, a team with stronger leadership (Mess?) wins that series against the Wings, especially with the way the Wings played the first two at home. I don't think Burkie's press conference/ video-assisted tantrum helped the 'Nucks either.

    Tavares and the Wings

I hope he goes out East because I'd hate to see him four to eight times a year for the other team. With the lottery, though... Dallas or somebody we really don't like could end up with him.

    Leafs acquire Brad May

It's been a good two or three years since Kaberle skated like he gave a crap so I almost forget what he looks like on a good team. Ditto with Kubina.

1/6 GDT: San Jose at Calgary

I'm too lazy to do this, but someone check the Sharks message board to find out if they think it's time to panic.

    World Junior Championship

Sweden had three 17-year olds and seven 18-year olds. Canada had two 17-year-olds and eight 18-year olds. Both had 12 19-year-olds. Not exactly a historic men-against-boys scenario. Paajarvi's really solid, though. I hope he slips down a few rounds....

    Crosby "fight"

In order to be a good leader he should, at the very least, stop living in Mario's basement. I'd hate to think my supervisor was getting my boss' wife's home cooking.

    World Junior Championship

Markstrom flops around like Hasek, except without all that pesky puck-stopping ability. And Hedman played like he had eggs in his hands that he didn't want to break. Really disappointed in how he played. Same time, next year?

    Ken Holland's "Deadline Special" Predictions

Nichol's past history of suspensions scares me a bit. I'd take Neil over Nichol.

    World Junior Championship

Hedman scares the s*** out of me. If he's the "Swedish Pronger", as he's been billed the last two years, he should be elbowing Tavares' head into the boards tonight. And like Pronger's dirty hits, it'll go unpenalized.

That's a rather personal question. No comment.

No Red Wings on All Star starting line up

I know it's a meaningless game, but this vote is an embarassment to more that just Komisarek. Komisarek is easily the worst athlete to be voted into any ASG ever, and that includes when Cincy fans stuffed the box in 1957 to put in Jstiuffs like Gus Bell and Wally Post over Willie Mays and Hank Aaron. The commissioner of that league stripped fans of the vote for 12 years. Perhaps that ought to be done here.

    Gabby out 10+ weeks!

Ten weeks puts it beyond the window of the trade deadline, no? Don't you have to pass a physical by the other team's doctors in order to be traded?
