I wish somebody would use their big body presence and use their active stick to engage and knock the s*** out of him.

    World Junior Championship

Poor little van Riemsdyk.... poor little guy "looked like " he might have taken a hit. Does it excuse the American guy on the bench for sticking a player in the face? According to Sneptsy it does. Van Riemsdyk should leave his purse in the dressing room next time he feels like milking a hit where it "looked like" something bad happened to him. God help that poor bugger if he makes it to the NHL. That said, I hope Della Rovere gets suspended for the semifinal for his hit from behind in the second. Absoltuely no reason that shouldn't have been a major.

    World Junior Championship

: ) I've temp. moved to Fort McMurray, Alta. which is 500 miles from nowhere. Good oil money... Anyway, I'll work my tail off to get to this one. I missed the 91 tournament in Saskatchewan because my family and I were moving at Christmastime. I wish there were games back home though but we don't have the building for it anymore. There could be five Sask.-born players on next year's team, which will make tickets come at an even higher premium.

As if we need another reason to want to crush San Jose

Anaheim are a bunch of fraidy little ***** cats now. This is a move to call him up for this season's games against Detroit and the playoffs. They know they can't win on the scoreboard against the Wings, so they're calling up this perennial turtling-hitter-from-behind because Tootoo costs too much in a trade. Seriously, are teams taking unhealthy runs at guys like Setoguchi and Marleau? I must be missing that in the highlights.

    Good Lord Chicago

After the last three years of terrible hockey, no one is going to pay a soon-to-be 36 year old Khabi nearly the same amount as the KHL would be able to. And I'm sure It wouldn't take an exceptional offer for him to move home. Needless, the Hawks are very skilled and very young.

12/23 GDT: Blues, 1 at Red Wings, 4

4-3 Wings, come from behind Dan Cleary scores three points tonight. Dats scores a highlight real doozy. Conklin lets in three on 19 shots. Also: I start my Christmas shopping tomorrow at 9 a.m.

    Good Lord Chicago

Khabibulin jumps to the KHL July 1. You heard it here first. In the meantime, they remind me a lot of the Senators from a few years ago, just when Spezza was starting to break out. Lots of speedy playmaking forwards and puck-moving defencemen. They just need to trade for Curtis Leschyshyn and Ron Tugnutt and they're there.

    Selanne out 4-6 weeks

He's probably wishing it was this year that he hemmed and hawed about coming back to play rather than last year. I have no ill will towards Teemu. Freak accident and I hope he recovers. The Ducks, on the other hand, can go fly a kite.

    Red. Wings. Hockey.

We all know this Red Wings team is capable of playing some really dominating hockey. It really couldn't have come on a better night.

http://www.chompboard.com/showthread.php?t=10306&page=6 LOL. I've noted this as well. If you're at the Joe in that row right in front of the cameras, please don't get up for a snack in the middle of a ****ing power play, k?

    2009 Free Agents

JMHO, I think we should try to avoid signing anyone 39 and over but Dwayne Roloson intrigues me as a rental for this year. Anyway, I think they should try to focus on the Zetterberg and Franzen signings and pick up some two-way forwards with size with the rest.
  17. Well, I guess that settles that then.
  18. You're right. Shanahan was only good for a couple of shifts a game because he had hands of stone and Lapointe was given $20 million by the Bruins to be a policeman. How didn't I see it this way before?
  19. Even Scotty's tough guys could play the game. Doug Risebrough scored 60 points to go with a team-leading 132 PIMS on the 1977 Habs, who happened to win 60 games. They pretty much disproved the Flyers' theory of beating them in the alley to beat them on the ice. In 1992, the Cup-winning Penguins had Kevin Stevens who had a team-leading 250 pims, and a team second 123 points. Fighters Jay Caufield and Grant Jennings were getting part-time to other, more valuable players, by the time the Cup was given out. Universally Scotty's best teams had four solid lines led by a superstar first line and a dynamite power play. I would rather have those things than a couple of thugs. FWIW, I think Kopecky is useless and likely could be replaced by a bigger presence who can hit. I think/ hope Abdelkader's a perfect fit in that role, because he does have some other on-ice usefulness.
  20. Actually, I've covered it at various levels in various media for 14 years now. You have no idea how many scouts I talk to that are absolutely green with envy at how the Red Wings are able to look so good offensively every year and just last year, were able to add that defensive presence. It's a beautiful game when the Jody Shelleys of the world are left to the other teams. And I don't care that fighting is up around the league in the first third of the season. That won't mean dick when the post-season starts. Last night against LA, Shelley played 2:31, fought Ivanans in the middle of the second period and had two shifts, total of 48 seconds, in the third period of a close-checking game. Not exactly the numbers of a well-rounded player. To be fair, they were probably trying to tie up the game and didn't want their goo... I mean, star role player, to be on the ice while they tried that. I hate it when the papers decide that everyone on the roster deserves ink at some point in the season... it leads to completely pointless arguments.
  21. Someone should look up how many Stanley Cups Jody Shelley has won. It can't be more than eight or nine because that would be getting in Jean Beliveau territory and I like to think I'd remember that. Shelley was playing with them last year, too, right? When they collapsed from too many passengers? A slow-skating two-minute-per-game goon is just not part of Mike Babcock hockey in 2008. Let's live with that and, in fact, embrace it. Teams are bending over backwards to imitate it. If people here really think getting rid of Maltby and Draper and adding a thug is going to help the dressing room or on-ice chemistry, I don't think I can agree with that. I'd rather have a good penalty killer/faceoff man than a goon as my 18th skater. And I'll die with that on my tombstone.

What do you do with a struggling goaltender?

Osgood, Sammy and Hudler for Luongo. Conklin, Howard and Stuart for Anderson. GET IT DONE, KENNY!!!

McKenzie: Sundin likely to sign with VAN or NYR

Poor Mats, having to take a pay cut to, at worst, $1.2 million for four months work, and to bring himself to do that, he needed a eight months to feel like playing hockey again. Was that Leafs playoff run too much for you, Mats? Poor guy. Get Jerry Lewis on the phone and let's hold a telethon.
