We seem to be giving up a few more goals this year though, but that may be perception. Undoubtedly, there are more goals being scored.... Any raw data on that?

Stupid cheap-shotting Habs! *grumble grumble*
-
Yeah, it does. Thanks. I was wondering how many man-game to injury Wings stars have lost due to cheap shots in the last few years (post-lockout, say) when McCarty/Downey weren't in the lineup. Can't be too many, can it?
-
Is Laraque playing? If so, how many Red Wings did he knock out in the finals last year? My memory's bad.

26 I demand more drunken cheerleading sessions from Huds at the end of Stanley Cup parades 2010 through-2015. In the year the Wings don't win, the winning team has to hire him out. Also, the kid has the best raw talent of any of the three and is IMO better defensively than people give him credit for.

From a Yahoo! News article during the 2000 playoffs: Ah, Claude Lemieux -- this exchange with Flyers captain Eric Desjardins in Game 2 shows "Pepe" is a master of playoff trash talk, if not the English language. Lemieux skated up to Desjardins and said: "What's the 'C' on your sweater stand for? Selfish?" Unaware of his linguistic snafu, Lemieux skated away, leaving Desjardins to chuckle at his former Canadiens teammate. "I just laughed," Desjardins said. . . . http://www.geocities.com/beckmank/lemieuxquotes.html

This is likely number 1 on the list of the history of "worst kept secrets".

No, Red Wings, I want some beer. Hold this lead, pls. tyvm.
-
Roloson won't be that lucky twice to have the puck go off both posts, and Osgood lets one in that Conklin doesn't. There.
-
I have lots of beer riding on this game. If both teams play like they did Monday, 5-1 Wings. Kronwall gets three points.
-
Bourque was very good but I like to watch old games and see the guys back then just blow by him. He didn't have the speed Lidstrom has, but he had comprarable vision for the first pass. And he could grow a good playoff beard. I just don't get peoples' love affair with Bourque. He was very good but before 2001, he wasn't even the best player to never win the Cup. On the ice, I'd take Coffey over Bourque in any year in the 80s; in the early 90s I'd take Stevens over Bourque. Since the Wings first Cup, I'll take Lidstrom over Bourque. And I would take none of them for Sportsman of the Year.

I wonder how many different press releases Colin Campbell has at the ready, with the phrase "We have reviewed the video from the incident and have decided not to suspend Mr. Pronger...", or variations of such. About three or four?
-
The lesson we take from Pronger is: "If you're going to head-hunt, do it in the playoffs because we don't have the balls to suspend anyone for damaging a player in the most important time of the season." I don't suspect much will change come April. Collie will still either give a pocket-change fine or a one game susp. the next time Pronger elbows someone in April. If the Ducks make it that far.

Meh. They've proven year after year they can't sustain it, and they've had better D than this year. They'll be better with Gaborik but his heart isn't set on staying there so I'm not sure he doesn't bolt after the season. They might package him up to LA for prospects. They're in a crappy division, so they might end up third in the conference again.

Intriguing, but no. I'll take a discounted price on Shanny for a one-year project, though, if we're going to pay $3 million for a third liner. I think he understands better what a third liner does and would be more suited to that role at this stage of his career.
-
Eberle's the real deal skill-wise. I've seen a lot of him this year. I'm not sure he can play a more physical-style, NHL game, but if he's available at 30, snap him up. I think he goes between 20-25, or even sooner. If we want a bigger skilled forward, maybe Joe Colborne?
-
They won a Cup as Wings. That's good enough for me. I remember at the time I was watching the 2002 team thinking "There's 8 guys that are going to be in the HHOF here." Yzerman, Hasek, Hull, Robitaille, Lidstrom, Chelios and Shanahan. Actually nine, counting Sir Scott Bowman. If it's the MLB HOF, Hull and Robitaille wouldn't wear Wings hats but like I said, IFAIC if they won a Cup here, that's how I'll prefer to remember them.
-
Congrats to Igor and also belatedly to Ed Chynoweth, junior hockey visionary. Three more Wings, Yzerman, Hull and Luc will go in next year.
-
You're going to win the vast majority of games in which you outshoot your opponent by a 2-1 margin. I'd be a lot more worried about the Wings if they just sat back and waited for penalties to be called to send out their offensive poachers. Games like Monday are a reminder to all that this is a seven game series and the team that dominates and carries the play through the majority of the series will prevail.
-
Fleury's been so leaky this series . . . pucks are just going right through him.
-
His daughter Miley seems pretty popular with the tweens as well.
-
If the Wings get the first goal early ... look out. Could be an 8-goal game. Otherwise, Pens keep it close for a 3-1 Wings win, Ozzie picks up the Conn Smythe and Sindy Criesby bawls his head off in the post-game handshakes.

I'm surprised Roberts hasn't already been mentioned as a possible replacement for dear old Cliffy.

6 Canadian teams account for 31% of league revenue
mjlegend replied to TheWestWing's topic in General
Move the Coyotes back to Winnipeg and you'd get more than $450,000/ game in revenue. Move the Panthers to Quebec City . . . Keep the NHL in markets that support hockey and care about it and grow the game intensely in those markets. Make a place like Florida pine for an NHL team the way Hamilton does before granting a franchise.
