Wings sign D Ian White to 2-year, $5.75m contract

So Smith knocks out Kindl or Commodore?

Wings sign D Ian White to 2-year, $5.75m contract

The HF thing is from a book by Gare Joyce about scouting. I met the assistant coach who helped throw out White's equipment and he had said White had the biggest attitude problem he's seen in junior. These things don't just go away. Three times in 18 months, and then not re-signed for a bargain price when he became available as a UFA. Tell me that doesn't sound off any alarm bells. I've tried to be patient and optimistic, but this off-season has been really disappointing, even after last year didn't get us anything important we needed. The July 18th signing of Jason Williams, followed by Kenny's "Well, we're done making changes!" press conference that I can see coming is really going to send me over the edge.

I really hope we sign a D coach who knows what the hell they're doing. Lot of potential headaches in the top six right thurr.

    Great, he's fat, too.

More than one coach clearly didn't see value in keeping him lately (four NHL teams in 18 months). But go ahead and plan the parade route.

Wings sign D Ian White to 2-year, $5.75m contract

White was a total dick in junior and has been on four NHL teams in 18 months. Coincidentally, we're getting him for a bargain. http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=453093 He's 5'10" (on skates), 170 pounds. For the fight slappies out there - don't forget about White's fight with Kovalchuk. One of four fights he's had in 401 NHL games.

    Wings looking at Ty Conklin

Roughly 1 to 1.25 million seems to be the going price for a good backup. Which leaves us $8-plus million in cap room, plus one miffed Osgood.

    Forward lines next season?

"Hudler is not impossible to trade" And yet, here he still sits. Maybe it's part of Kenny's masterplan to re-sign Modano and Draper, too, since they're the only two that haven't inked a deal here yet. Emmerton is out of options. He'd have to clear waivers to be sent down to GR.

    Yandle on the block?

Do we still think people want Hudler after trying for two solid weeks to trade him? He might either need to stay here or be bought out. Any discussion of Yandle with Phoenix will probably require the Wings to throw a real prospect like Smith plus a first round pick.

    RFA/UFA Signings

He got sent to the minors for a sucky attitude and he wasn't worth the big $$$ Columbus gave him a couple of years ago. He got bought out (a la Superstar Patty Eaves) georgemalik George Malik RT @BrianHedger: To refresh, Commodore on Babcock trading him in 2003: "Mike Babcock was without a doubt an obstacle in my career." EDIT: For one year at a million, though, it's worth a gamble.

Not great but not the worst signing possible. The other shoe has to drop on a top-end defenceman. The Wings have known they've needed one for a month.

    RFA/UFA Signings

I don't panic often, but this day has made me extremely frustrated. We spent the first half of the day re-signing mediocre fourth liners when there could have been significant improvements made there over the existing (Miller) players (Hudler) we have. EVERYBODY who has watched a hockey game knows the needs the Wings have. Top end defenceman, improvement on second line and a backup goalie, in that order. Who's left out there? Do you see the roster as it is making a good run in the playoffs? I sure as hell don't. And if they do lose in the playoffs, will you finally admit Holland missed the boat on making an improvement to a team that's lost in the WC semis for the past two years?

Rupp has something we don't have. We have better versions of Eaves already.

RealKyper Nick Kypreos #NHL news. #Rangers agree to terms on Mike Rupp. 3 yrs. 4.5M total. Just $300,000 more/year than Superstar Patty Eaves. I guess we have some cap room.

    Too early to panic?

    CuJo is still out there.

    RFA/UFA Signings

Have you seen any indication out of the Wings front office that this is at all part of the plan? They've had a ton of time to free up Hudler if they wanted to. I know I want what you said to be the case, too, but the NHL-calbre defencemen and backup goaltenders are going fast. Boucher would totally have fit in in that backup role, getting 18-25 games behind Howard.

No room for forwards now for the Wings with 12 guys signed, plus Emmerton (out of options) and Mursak. No backup goaltender, no #2 defenceman. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

    Wings re-sign Miller to 2-year, $1.65m contract

Jesus. Bye, Draper. Ian White is a cancer. Sorry to people that have cancer, but he's 100 per cent not what the Wings need as a #2-3 D. I hate to admit it, but we're probably down to Kaberle on a one-year deal.

    Wings re-sign Eaves to 3-year, $3.6m contract

Facts don't equal stats? I take it you're not a scientist. So, his 22 fewer hits and 17 fewer blocked shots in roughly the same amount of games mean he's more valuable now than he was 12 months ago? I can't believe how valuable he's going to be with 5 blocked shots and 18 hits in three years! $5 million a year, Kenny!

    Wings re-sign Eaves to 3-year, $3.6m contract

Just looking at last year's stats in isolation, yes. But since the lockout, Asham has had 4 20-point seasons. And the great thing is, you can find guys like that in the AHL if you need them. And we do need them way more than we need a locked-in Eaves.
