Wings re-sign Eaves to 3-year, $3.6m contract
mjlegend replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I don't think he's a better player. I think he's more of what we need than Eaves for three years, and is less of a cap hit. What Eaves does is replacable. -

Signing fourth-line guys to twice their previous contracts for three year deals when they are on the decline (or at least not on an improvement swing) is as asinine as giving Ericsson $3.25 million/year. If I have a personal hang-up with him, then you have to admit you were wrong about what you're seeing, because the facts really don't back it up. -

I could have sworn Aaron Asham just got $775,000 this year from the Penguins. Call me crazy, but I think we need more of that on the fourth line than yet another guy who doesn't fight. -

Great, rip up the contract Kenny. Sign him to even more money. -

I hate to be the crapstain on this Eaves-gasm, but he's 27 so he's not terribly young (I don't expect great improvement on the core, goals-and-assists numbers), and if he's playing Hudler minutes, while Mursak, Tatar and Nyquist rot in GR, we're in deep trouble. -

Try to keep the argument to facts, not anecdotal stuff that the facts can defeat. I'm not denying he sometimes throws hits or sometimes blocks shots. But stats say he doesn't actually block shots or hit better 2010-11 than he did in 2009-10, in which he received a modest $250,000 raise. 2009-10 hits: 128 2010-11 hits: 106 2009-10 blocked shots: 44 2010-11 blocked shots: 27 2009-10 Wings PK rank: 10th 2010-11 Wings PK rank: 17th Again I'll ask: What did he do that gives him significantly more money this coming (three) year(s) than the last two? -

Woo-hoo, Stanley Cup here we come 'cause we got a fourth liner who can skate fast. Let's re-sign all the guys who helped us get the 17th best PK in the league last year. What did he do this year more than the last one? Apart from being part of a thin, seriously inflated market? At least we actually NEED a blueline. Eaves doesn't do anything 40 guys in the AHL could do for half the price. -

Why is he getting almost twice what he made last year? Bad signing, Kenny. -
Hopefully he gets Ericsson money to play fourth line.

I'd take a lot of guys over Sally, but O'Brien isn't one of them unless he grows the eff up. There's potential there, but this guy is a buyout in two years if he signs a long-term deal.

Ehrhoff's rights traded to NYI, then traded to Buffalo

Brad Winchester, 10 years, $12.5 million. Make it happen! -
How the hell does Tambellini get away with trying to trade two injured players? Less than one per cent of the league's players would actually want to play in Edmonton, and he screws up the trade with one of the few who does.
-
Maybe Ehrhoff will ask his old teammate Evgeni Nabokov about how great it is to be part of the Islanders organization.
-
I wanted him to be one of the 12 assistant GMs in Toronto.

The "NHL from 2011 to 2015" script that I have says that the Wings' 2013 reclamation project is Benoit Pouliot, but he's still two more failed attempts at being a top-six forward away from being a Wing.
-
No, the Ducks drafted Friberg.
-
The Oilers could use someone on their team who remembers what it was like to be in the playoffs. Compensation to the Kings should be what they got for Smyth: Robert Nilsson, Ryan O'Marra and Alex Plante. It must have felt bad to be the only team not to screw the Islanders in a big trade, but now they can make up for it with this deal.

Tim Hunter could be the goon the Wings are searching for.

Seabrook extended for 5 years at $5.8 million per year
mjlegend replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
Sorry, troll, I was looking at 2011-12 in capgeek on limited sleep. I don't have the time in my life to be trolling other team's boards. Fine, $10 million on seven guys, IF guys like Ben Smith and Marcus Kruger stay on the team on their EL deals. Not terrible, but this is still a team that just finished eighth (on the last day of the season) and isn't improving, and still has massive cap issues for 2012-13. If you're just here to flap your "HAWKS ARE AWESOME!!!" pom-poms, I'm not interested. Long-term cap outlook for the Hawks still sucks, unless the cap rises another $5 million per year. Troy Brouwer doesn't matter to you guys? Lol. I'd love him on the Wings for a seventh round pick. I get the feeling Stan Bowman will qualify him for a million, and Stalberg as well. -

So now what? $15 million to sign ten guys? With Sharp, Brouwer, Kopecky and Stalberg yet to be re-signed? In a year that has a massive cap increase (everyone will be overpaying for crap). Eighth place, here you come! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! -
Why sign Mario Jr. when we can sign Mario? Mario Lemieux to Wings (e3)

First Korean assistant coach in NHL history - Jim Paek. You read it here first. Seriously, though, is there any chance Fraser comes up or is he stuck there until the Griffins actually make a run in the playoffs?

Latest Rumor: NHL Team Expected to Announce Rebranding in 2012
mjlegend replied to Hockey13Playa's topic in General
Carolina Compuwares. :flush: -
Speaking of ex-Wings as assistants, what do we feel about Marc Habscheid? Gallant is the clear top choice with his experience out East, but I'm not sure I'd want Hitchcock if (I suspect) he's gone 20 games into the season to fill the next NHL head coaching vacancy.

Myles Bell has some very serious and significant legal problems to go through in the next while.
