The Red Wings better win this one for Canadian Wings Fans. There's nothing worse than crossing over from Windsor and Sarnia with bus loads of Leaf fans only to have Detroit lose to the leafs in their own barn.

Big win tonight! 4-2 Detroit (Franzen x 2, Nyquist, Helm) -
Boston! Hereeee Weeeee Gooooo!
-
Biggest game of the season so far. Please show up and beat the Leafs tonight!
-
This is a huge game for us (obviously). We really need the Franzen Legwand Alfredsson line to step up and hopefully the kid line of Nyquist Sheahan Tatar keeps up their great play. I'm really excited to see Jurco back in the line-up, he'll add some much needed skill to our bottom six. If we can come away with two points and get Abdelkader back on the weekend and Datsyuk back next week we'll be in great shape to finish the season strong.

It really is amazing how fast things can change in one week. -
Maybe your dad, being older and wiser realizes that this will not be the case and wanted to divert some of your attention to other sports team USA are doing well in in order to ease the disappointment you will once again feel Friday afternoon.

"We only gave up 4 total and scored, ready? 15 all against NHL laden teams with NHL goaltenders..." - Really? Slovenia is considered an "NHL laden" team? Besides Anze Kopitar who else on Team Slovenia plays in the NHL? I'll save you the trouble of looking it up, nobody else on team Slovenia plays in the NHL not a skater nor a goalie. - I agree with you that this is all meaningless but please don't stretch the truth to prove your point, it takes credibility away from your post. "it was one of your fellow Canadian fans who first posted that the reason Canada has struggled is that they have played higher ranked teams...which its obvious that that excuse has been blown out of the water." - Sadly this Canadian fan was mistaken, this is not the reason Canada has "struggled". However, the fan was 100% correct that according to the 2014 IIHF rankings, Canada (5th) has played Finland (2nd) Norway (9th) and Austria (15th) while the USA (6th) have played Russia (3rd) Slovakia (8th) Slovenia (17th). Although those rankings are complete bulls*** and not accurate in the slightest, those are in FACT the IIHF rankings. I agree Team USA and Team Canada are essentially the same team and IF they meet in the semis it will be a great game. I hope the Canadians come out on top yet again but if they don't I won't be too upset due the fact that Team USA also have a great team that are very deserving of a shot at the Gold Medal. I'm looking forward to a great week of Hockey. -

Correct me if I'm wrong, if the following results happen tomorrow without any major changes in each teams goal difference, will this be the overall standings moving forward? Finland OT Win over Canada Russia Win over Slovakia USA Win over Slovenia 1) Sweden 9 pts. 2) Finland 8 pts. 3) USA 8 pts. 4) Canada 7 pts. 5) Russia 7 pts. Although I would never cheer against Canada, it would be hilarious if something like this happened and it shaped a Semi-Final Rematch of USA vs. Russia. -

- I agree, Russia looked a much better team than I thought too. - As I predicted, USA narrowly beat Russia. What I didn't predict was Russia looking the more dangerous team. - Never mind Ovechkin and his chances, if Radulov wasn't a complete moron they win the game in regulation. I wouldn't put him on the ice again in this tournament. - The no-goal for Russia was unfortunate for them but the right call nonetheless. My Rankings: 1 Canada (because they are defending champions and you can't fault them for "punishing a bunch nobodies") 2 Russia (because they looked the better team against USA and if it weren't for that rat-of-a-human known as Radulov and a very unlucky bounce late in the game, they would have won it in regulation) 3 USA (because they are a legitimate contender and beat another contender in a shootout.) 4/5 Sweden & Finland (at this point due to injuries I don't see either of them as legitimate contenders) The way the tournament is taking shape, I see the Americans cruising to the Gold Medal quite easily now (much like they did in 2010) the only unknown IMO is whether they will play Canada or Russia. The next week will be very interesting. -

Really looking forward to the USA vs. Russia game tomorrow morning. I expect the atmosphere will be incredible and think the Americans will win it in a close one. As a Canadian fan, I hope Babcock throws Jonny T on the top line next to Crosby on Sunday. I think he can play the role Stamkos would have played. The Carter Toews Marleau line was great today and I really liked how Duchene played with Getzlaf and Perry. I don't like breaking up the 4th line of Benn Bergeron Tavares since they have been very good but I think Nash would do the job. Tavares Crosby St. Louis Carter Toews Marleau Duchene Getzlaf Perry Benn Bergeron Nash Extra: Kunitz Scratch: Sharp -

Great result for Team USA today. I was expecting a tight win for the Americans and did not expect a 7-1 sHALAKing! (hah!) I can't wait for the USA Russia game Saturday morning the atmosphere will be electric. I was disappointed with Team Canada. Even though they controlled the game (as they should against Norway) they couldn't finish. Thankfully I'm accustomed to being disappointed by team Canada in the Round-Robin stage of the Olympics as they often take a few games to start clicking. 2010 L 5-3 USA W 3-2 OT Switzerland W 8-0 Norway 2002 L 5-2 Sweden W 3-2 Germany T 3-3 Czech Republic - Hopefully Russia and Sweden go home early so Datsyuk and Zetterberg can rest up and get healthy for the Wings playoff push. -

I suggest you do a little bit of research before you start throwing around outrageous statements such as this one. A) Qualification for the men's tournament at the 2014 Winter Olympics was determined by the IIHF World Ranking following the 2012 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships. The top nine teams in the World Ranking received automatic berths into the Olympics, while all other teams had an opportunity to qualify for the remaining three spots in the Olympics. B) Using the IIHF World Ranking points system, the current year received full value, and each preceding year was worth 25% less.[2] The following was a ranking based on points already accumulated toward Olympic qualification of all countries at the top level, or who are ranked amongst them. World ranking Team WC 2012 (100%) WC 2011 (75%) WC 2010 (50%) OLY 2010 (50%) WC 2009 (25%) Total 1 Russia 1200 825 580 520 300 3425 2 Finland 1100 900 520 560 265 3345 3 Czech Republic 1120 840 600 510 260 3330 4 Sweden 1040 870 560 530 280 3280 5 Canada 1060 795 510 600 290 3235 6 Slovakia 1160 705 450 550 235 3100 7 United States 1020 750 440 580 275 3065 8 Norway 1000 780 480 470 230 2960 9 Switzerland 920 720 530 500 240 2910 Pool A 1) Russia 6) Slovakia 7) USA Pool B 2) Finland 5) Canada 8) Norway Pool C 3) Czech Republic 4) Sweden 9) Switzerland - Slovenia, Austria and Latvia qualified for the final three spots in the tournament -
The fact that arguably the best minds in hockey Yzerman Holland Babcock Chiarelli Julien Ruff Hitchcock and Lowe (okay, maybe not Lowe) chose this roster makes me full of confidence that this is the best TEAM Canada can assemble. This team has all of the pieces to be dominant on any ice surface with a variety of players that fill roles (size, speed, grit, scoring, defence, balance etc.) Canada's achilles heel could be sub-par goaltending. This is a real possibility as Luongo has proven he can be a choke (he wasn't great in Vancouver but the team in front of him was good enough to make up for it). Although Price is having a monster year he is an unknown to Olympic competition. I do not believe Smith will see any ice time.
-
Agreed. Now let's go back to cheering for the Wings!
-
A) IMO Miller will start over Quick. Whether he keeps the starting spot or not we will see. B) It has not been ignored. We realize Sochi is in Russia. Yes, this means they will be playing on International Ice. With that in mind I find it shocking that you consider a team with the likes of Marleau, Crosby, Keith, Duchene, Bouwmeester, Stamkos and Carter to be "slow". C) It's amazing that you are so confident that your team is "much better" at team defence considering we have Toews, Bergeron, Marleau, Duchene, Keith, Vlasic, Hamhuis, Doughty, Pietrangelo and Weber on our roster. D) Yes you are right, we can light the lamp. E) I believe you are living in the past and analyzing the roster we sent to Turin in 2006. Do yourself a favour and google our current roster or check it out on NHL.com. While we are talking history it has been 34 years since Team USA last won Olympic Gold while us Canadians have enjoyed Gold in two of the last three Olympics.

Please win. Living in Southwestern Ontario there is nothing worse than a Maple Leafs win over the Red Wings. Prediction: Detroit 3 Toronto 1 (Datsyuk (x2), Tatar) -
Are you kidding me? Alfredsson has come here and done exactly what was expected of him. He has 14 pts. in 19 Games and is our third leading scorer. Take a lap.

I mentioned this in a previous thread and thought it could use a thread of it's own. (Mods feel free to lock or close if I'm getting ahead of myself!) Is anyone else extremely excited for the Olympics but dreading them as a Red Wings fan? It is likely that we could have 8 players in the tournament and with our injury luck the last few seasons this really makes me nervous. There's a lot of hockey to be played this season and I'm praying injuries don't become a major factor at the end of the season. Does anyone else feel the same way as I do? Who on our roster do you think will be at the games representing their country? Sweden: Franzen, Zetterberg, Alfredsson, Kronwall, Ericsson Russia: Datsyuk Czech Republic: Kindl Slovakia: Tatar USA: Howard (backup)
-
If I were choosing today I would say 1) Quick 2) Howard 3) Anderson. Having said that it's still a long way away and Miller and Schneider could easily be selected.
-
Eastern Conference Finals. I believe if we add a top 4 defenceman at some point during the year we will win the cup. I'm nervous about it being an Olympic year. Looking at the Wings roster, it is likely that we will have roughly 8 players in the tournament. That's a lot of hockey to be played and injuries could definetly become a huge factor again next year. Sweden: Franzen, Zetterberg, Alfredsson, Kronwall, Ericsson Russia: Datsyuk Czech Republic: Kindl Slovakia: Tatar USA: Howard (backup)
