Exit 69 at Big Beaver Rd off I-75 isn't it? edit: boldfacing store name

I know the Pack fans would love to have Favre back, but if I was Aaron Rodgers and Favre was coming back for another year, I would try to get traded or released. In hindsight, he probably should have pulled an Eli Manning and told the Packers he would sit out a year if they drafted him.

I've made a couple of trips out to Detroit just to see the Wings play. Was last there in April 2002 and stopped by Hockeytown Authentics. They had a whole bunch of Osgood jerseys on clearance for about $35 or so. If you had a crystal ball, that would have been a super good deal, but at the time (when Hasek was so hot and Legace was a solid backup) Ozzie was in bad favor and a St. Louis Blue.

Nope. Not much of a surprise there. A few years ago I got a good deal on a Lidstrom jersey. If I can pull off the same with Hossa, then I might try it with Hossa. Got a red jersey w/o names lettering or numbers, just a winged wheel, for about $20 on eBay. Took it to a sports shop in San Diego that at the time did lettering for Chargers and Padres jerseys, not just for fans, for the real team. Asked them to put Lidstrom's number name and an 'A' on the front and to make it look like the actual lettering the team uses, not like some other jerseys I saw. They assured me they could do it. There was no iron on stuff either. All embroidered. Picked up the jersey about a week later and paid about $40 more for the lettering. Total cost around $65. Paid $120 for an Yzerman jersey of similar quality the year before. I'm sure there are people who beat that price, but I thought I did OK on the deal.

Didn't the WHL try to do the same thing? It remains to be seen. It looks like some of the teams out there are willing to use loss leaders in the form of these ridiculous contracts to get the thing going. I question whether the economics can support it. What kind of TV contracts do they have? That's where the money comes from. As far as I can recall, no league in a major sport has been able to put a well established league in the same sport out of business. The most that has happened is a merger.

If the Wings can get home ice advantage throughout the playoffs by winning 50 games, and don't finish the season in a slump (althought they did in 2002 and still ended up OK ) that's all I need as a fan. It's all about the Cup.

Sorry for double post

Dude, that is better than Who's on First LMAO

Anyone who has faced the Red Wings for any length of time knows the grief that Homer causes in front of the net. Unfortunately, the people who have any say on whether a person goes to the HHOF are going to look at stats. It's kind of like the middle reliver in baseball. Many games are won or lost because of them, but because there's no glamour in their job, they rarely if ever get voted to the HOF.

Victims of the so-called numbers game.
-
It's gotten past that. The Bosox had to pay $50M just to be able to TALK to Dice-K, not just sign him.
-
I don't want to see him become the next Reggie Lewis or Hank Gathers...

This doesn't mean the Wings WON'T repeat, just that it's difficult. It's always difficult to win one Cup in a row, let alone two. I think the two biggest factors they have to overcome are: 1. Everyone is gunning for them 2. They have to avoid complacency and overconfidence Anything can happen in the playoffs, but no one has as good a shot at winning another Cup than the Wings do.

I have nothing but good things to say about Homer and he is good at what he does, but as a forward averaging fewer than 20 goals per season, the numbers do not rise to the level of a HHOFer. He has never won any awards and has never been on an All-Star team. He has mostly been a role-playing forward during his career. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell, the Red Wings don't have a team-level Hall of Fame. Perhaps they should. I have seen lots of football teams have a ring of honor going around the stadium with a uniform number and the name of the player. Not the same level as the HOF or a retired jersey, but some recognition that they are a part of the team's heritage. Players like Draper and Holmstrom deserve some kind of permanent recognition for their service to the team, just not in the HHOF or their number in the rafters.

It is a good day to die

It would show him respect for what he has done for this team in the past while still being fair to the business side (i.e. we got a team to run and a Cup to win, can't be nostalgic) of the team.
-
Fischer also wore #8 for awhile, like when Hatcher was on our team.
-
It's consistent with what teams would be willing to pay, perhaps less in some cases. I would not worry about his work ethic. He showed he was a competitor in the SCF. If he plays remotely close to his potential, he should be able to meet your benchmark.
-
Yeah, you're right. We probably doubled his readership.

It's nice to finally have some cooler weather out here in the San Diego area.

I know the players want a break and earned it, but dammit, I want to watch some hockey!

Hossa has expressed a desire to be a Red Wing, so it's conceivable that he would stay here more than a year. I just have to be careful not to get my hopes up too high only to have them crushed in the end.

Hossa's agent is floored by his client's behaviour
octopusonice replied to crotty99's topic in General
In any work that pays a commission, it's always better to have as much money up front as possible or a guaranteed stream of money. This is why, for example, many health clubs try to get as much money up front out of you as possible, even though you might offer to make payments to cover the fees. With Hossa signing a one year deal with the Wings, there's more uncertainty. What if he has a subpar season? What if the market changes for some reason, like a salary cap staying the same or even decreasing? This is less compelling an argument, but the agent does have to do twice as much work to get the same amount of money in the long run than if Hossa just signed a long-term deal up front. You're right that if Hossa plays as expected and signs a long-term deal with us or someone else, both he and the agent are going to more or less get the same money that they would have had Hossa signed a long-term deal last week. -
I say you let Cheli compete for the spot and if he is good enough to be on the team on merit, you sign him.
-
It's also not like the Wings tried to lure Hossa with this bank-breaking amount of money in an effort to outbid other teams. Hossa called the Wings and offered the one year deal that he signed.
