...and a half dozen guys on the Bengals

Not a smart way to rebuild...

I think it was in reference to a gag on an alcoholic beverage commercial where he's talks about looking for a party and delivers the punchline that in Soviet Russia, Party looks for you.

Or hexadecimal like 'A6'

Well, with all that mopping and sweeping, he developed a mean slap shot

One of the things I would do is promote youth leagues in regions where such leagues are scarce or non-existant. I love the game of hockey, but never have played a lick of it in my life. If I had played it while I was younger, the NHL would have had me as a fan about 20 years sooner. I second the motion on the idea of getting a better television package for hockey. No sports can thrive without a good television package. As long as hockey is on VS and the occasional game on NBC, hockey will always be viewed by those living in the Sun Belt as a sport played only in Canada and the northern U.S.

Wow, did not realize that there were this many owners in trouble with the league. Makes you wonder if there's more to come. EDIT: revised wording

Agreed, but I remember something he said a few years ago that cracked me up. The Blackhawks got off to a fast start one season, but a couple of their wins came against the CBJ. When CHI started to slump and it looked like the start was too good to be true, he commented on it saying, "They gotta go back and play them Blue Jackets" When I had NHL Center Ice and had the FSN Detroit or UPN 50 broadcasts of the game, it was such a joy. Damn you, VS!

I don't have a problem with that; I'm more worried about our defensemen corps.

I don't have an answer for live, but Hulu.com and Joost.com show select replays of past games. If you have a high speed connection and the right graphics card, you can see some past Wings games. I think Joost had game 4 of the 1997 finals, which would be a nice senitimental one to watch again!

I follow the team, but because my job situation is shaky, I can't shell out the dough to get out to games as much as I used to. I used to go to Anaheim as often as possible to see them play the Ducks, and I have flown out to Detroit to see them play at the Joe, but that was a few years ago. I also had Center Ice on my cable and recorded most of the 2001-02 season. That was a joy not only because we won the Cup, but because of all the greats on the team. It sucks that the games are not on ESPN. Used to be a lot of Wings games were televised. I listen to WXYT on the net as much as possible, but the 3 hour time difference sometimes makes that difficult. I'm still at work when the Wings start most games. So I responded moderate, because I cannot see the team as often, but I'm totally behind them.

It would be neat if the NHL Mr. Irrelevant got as much fanfare as the NFL Mr Irrelevant. The latter gets to go to this festive event in Newport Beach, CA: http://www.irrelevantweek.com/

TB sure became a riches to rags story. I hope the new ownership gets rid of the Lightning Bug mascot if it hasn't happened already. I still haven't recovered from the 2002 DET @ TB game I saw on NHL Center Ice where they announced between periods that Lightning Bug was having a birthday party. I mean CRIMINY! Couldn't they have found a player to interview or sold more advertising time?

And only three Red Wings: Sawchuk, Delvecchio and Cleary Mathieu Dandenault used to...

Here's to posting only when it counts :beerbuddy:

I didn't understand that, but my computer did

Again, I think Montreal has a good team. I'm just not sure that Price can make this acclimation and the Habs can get more toughness (as Mack_Attack alluded to earlier) while Sundin is still with them. I never disliked the Pens that much until the SCF. Hossa was definitely a thorn in our side. Edit: fixed some spelling

I did not say that he did not want to win the Cup, only that he valued a bigger check more. I think his chances of getting the Cup would have been better in Detroit. He's not getting any younger, so his so called window of opportunity is limited. I agree Montreal has a solid team and Mats can help them, but I don't think they'll win it all in the next couple of years, and as you said, they still have to get some more players.

That was a jab at the Avs. I never miss out on an opportunity to throw them under the bus! I like the comment about hexadecimal. I remember a computer science test where I had to convert "BEEF" from hexadecimal to binary. Now there's a good number for an enforcer type.

Players you would trade the Wings 1st round pick for.
octopusonice replied to babygorilla's topic in General
To respond to the original question by the OP, I probably wouldn't. I'm not a big fan of mortgaging your future. One of the beauties of the Wings is how many players on the roster were drafted. The 30th pick may not have enough trade value to get a proven superstar, but it is still valuable in terms of what it can do for the team in the long run. Six years ago is the last year the team could buy a championship. In the salary cap era, good draft picks are the way to feed the machine. -
I'd have to think he's retiring. The only thing left for him to do was get the Cup. We're not going to retire his number, though...
-
Then making a Cup run must be worth less to him than getting a fat paycheck

What kinds of things do they sell? I remember getting an e-mail a few years ago where they were selling sections of the old dasher boards that were going to be replaced. Is it stuff like that or is it stuff that the players use? Thanks in advance for your answers.

I'd pay money to see it

Good, because post count padding is terrible!
