Congrats! Here's to his first 100pt season (hopefully) ... it's been a while since a Wing has had one.

Concrete Blond - Mexican Moon.

I agree. I don't think that the punh caused the damage, I think that riding the unconscious victim into the ice head first is what did it. The pile on afterwards could have only made matters worse.
-
This sounds like a great service you're offering. I'm not a Detroit native and this kind of thing will be very useful to me when I come over for games. The parking tower at the Joe is easy enough to find, but who can afford to do it very often.
-
Once Dom is cleared he will take the starting role again and Howard will be sent back down to the "A". Howard hasn't looked bad in the AHL so far this season, but the powers that be are expecting a lot more from him if he wants to win the back up role in Detroit and eventually become the 'man' in Hockeytown.
-
It probably has to do with the subpar season that he had in the AHL with G.R. last season. He didn't exactly embarrass himself, but he didn't impress anybody either.

What's to stop Chelios from putting Hudler on the 4th line? Sorry, I couldn't resist. I don't really care where they put Hoods, 4th line is better than a healthy scratch. As long as Downey is still in the line up so someone out there can police the ice. He's added a dimension to the ice that the Wings have been missing.
-
Personally, I think we need to keep Downey in the line up a lot more than Kopecky for just this reason. Kope doens't add that much more offense than Downey will, and Downey will drop the gloves and help keep those who would cheap shot the Wings in line. Drake is willing to drop the gloves, and that is fine, but he doesn't do it nearly as well as Downey. If there is to be any policing of the ice, Downey should be the one to do it.

Why Are the Red Wings So Good Year After Year?
Rob the Badger replied to livediehockey80's topic in General
What's to stop Chelios from being "So Good" year after year? That's a damn fine question. I'd have to say, "Nothing". -
I'm glad that this road game has an early start time of 8pm. But why is it at 8pm? Isn't that kind of early in Calgary?

If the injury bug hits us as hard as it has in recent years, I don't know what the Wings are going to do. The players that they have had to call up before are all playing for the team now. Having Quincey on defense would probably be all right. He did well with the time he had in Detroit late last season, but beyond that, the cupboard is pretty bare. We don't have that 'shining' prospect that is ready to compete in the NHL as far as forwards go. We have some solid AHL players, but I haven't seen anything that says we have a prospect ready to make an impact with the Wings. Maybe the fact that I haven't seen them win a game at home has something to do with it.

It wasn't a power play last season Dave, it was a power outage. Hopefully with a new head coach and some new players in the system, they'll be able to grind out a few more ugly goals in front of the cage.
-
It's still early in the season. They may be playing better on the road because they're away from the home town pressure, or they may thrive in a hostile environment. We're not going to know what kind of team we have until the 20 game mark anyhow. New coach, new system, new players... it's all going to take time to gel. And having Howard up in the "D" isn't going to help matters much. It's a work in progress, be patient.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing them on separate lines here and there to give teams two different lines to try to lock up. I liked how Scotty used to mess with the lines to mess with other teams. They can always be put together on power plays and if the team is down a goal.

Everyone who said Ellis shouldn't be up full time
Rob the Badger replied to stevkrause's topic in General
Part of the problem is the stupid waivers rule. I think that teams should be allowed to develop their players without having to worry about other teams stealing them in transit to the minors. I know the players union has that in place to try to get their players as much money as possible and to make it to the NHL, but if a team owns your contract, they should have the freedom to send you to the minors without someone snatching them up. For instance, you get Franzen back and want to send Ellis or Downey to Grand Rapids, next thing you know they're on a Bus to Columbus and your investment is gone. I don't like it. The rule might be positive for the players, but it isn't for the teams. -
Lindros's career actually retired a couple of years ago in Toronto, he was just unaware of it. Good luck Eric and thanks for leaving the game before something very tragic happened. If you do some good helping the league, Great! Maybe THN was right and Lindros will make it to the hall of fame as a builder or exec, who knows?

I've watched Ellis play in G.R. and I knew what kind of player he is. He has a solid work ethic and a positive attitude. He is willing to take the abuse to head toward the net and is willing to grind and battle for the puck. I don't expect him to get more than 20-25 pts a season in the NHL, but he does bring a lot of heart to the game. Those who thought that Ellis is 'worthless' haven't seen him play. -
This is just like the same smoke they were trying to blow with the whole Scottie Bowman situation. I think that the 'journalists' in Toronto are 90% fiction writers and 10% reporters.
-
Well, at least they're picking on a team that has twice as many championships as they do.
-
I'm sure he'll do well in Europe. If he is serious about wanting to be an NHL goaltender though, playing for an AHL team for the rest of the season wouldn't be a bad move. He could be a veteran influence for a prospect and prove that he can still put up numbers. If he has a great AHL season, someone in the "N" might take a chance on him again.

I am by no means a buisness expert... but you'd think that the powers that be in Chicago would have realized that they were the only team blacking out the home games. If it was good for buisness, you'd think that other teams would have done it too. But no, they were the only ones. And they did it year after year after year. At some point you think that they would have caught on to the fact that it was bad for business, not good. Stubborn is as stubborn does, I guess.

It seems like the league is desperate to increase goal scoring, unless it's done by the Red Wings. How many have we had disallowed this season? ... And now this? Grrr!
-
I was at the Griffins game this weekend too and didn't see diddly squat out of him. He doesn't look like someone who is working his tail off to try to make the team. He's not going to make it, and he is going to be sent back overseas.

Why the heck are the "C" and the "A"s on the wrong
Rob the Badger replied to KOCUR26's topic in General
It was either move them to the other side ... or put them way up toward the shoulders, and that looked a lot worse.
