If my information is accurate, they are almost identical in build, Ryan is actually a little heavier, but goalies (HOF goalies no less, see Hasek) can get away with being lanky. At lot of guys with his height are over 200lbs, Perry, Kopecky and those guys are what I would consider as lanky players. Again, I really like they way he has payed. I just hope if we resign Drew Miller, he puts on some weight over the summer, or before the playoffs.

I still think it's too early to say what will happen. We have a lot of hockey to play and some of the guys in question could continue to get some solid minutes between now and when Franzen, Williams, Kronwall and Ericsson are ready. I like Drew Miller but that boy needs to put on so weight, he's listed at 6'2" 178lbs on yahoo and on his wikipedia profile his weight is 165lbs. Anyone 6"2" should be atleast 195. Hell, Zetterberg is 5"11 and he weighs 195. Sorry if it sounds like I'm facinated with his physical build but I think he would be a much more effective player if he bulked up a bit.

Amazing what can happen when you're not in the penalty box....

Fair enough, but drunk and legally drunk is 2 different things. Both are very stupid, but I'm just saying, just because you get a DUI doesn't mean you were driving impaired, regardless of what we've been told since we were 5 years old. I'm not defending drunk driving whatsoever, but a DUI doesn't make you a terrible person, but killing someone while driving drunk or impaired is basically murder and a totally different subject.
-
I think some people are overreacting, Chelios didn't hurt anybody but himself here. I've drove when my BAL was over .08 before, and yes it was very irresponsible, but people aren't perfect.

Yeah, but wasn't Canada SUPPOSED to win? Personally I thought both teams played terrible defense and the goaltending was also very bad. I thought that goalie interference call on the USA in the last 5 mins of the 3rd was pretty weak considering the refs put the whistles away for most of the game. Without that PP, the USA probably wins in regulation. edit: btw, I'm not trying to argue with you over this game being a "classic" one way or the other. Something is only classic to those that care, strictly subjective. I'm sure game 7 of the stanley cup finals 09 was classic for Pens fans, not so much for this Wings fan.

a Canadian classic maybe. to the USA fans it was a classic.

It's really a shame that Rafalski makes 6 mil a year, a real shame.

MOTOR CITY FIL!

like I said, this was my first WJC, and I was really impressed with the speed of these guys. It looked like there were 10 darren helms on the ice at all times. I thought the games was really close until the last 5 minutes of the 3rd where Canada just dominated. I did think the penalty for goalie interference was a weak one, especially after all the stuff they let fly in that game. Still a great game.
-
I must admit, that was my first time ever watching the WJC, and it was AWESOME. It really got me pumped for the Olympics.
-
I think he'll resign for sure, hopefully no more than 2 mil.

The only one I disagree with was the coaching staff grade. I would give them a B+/A- at this point, Babcock has done very good with what he has to work with.
-
Captain America says "GO USA!!!!!"
-
come on Babcock, put Holmstrom out there with the EN so Arby's can finally fork up some of those fries. cancel that! what speed from Helm, he might be the fastest guy in the league.
-
How dare you? Datsyuk is unbelieveable, he's been playing great lately. If only he had some more helpers out there. Howard has also had a great game, I just hope they can keep this play up on this roadtrip.
-
I only caught the 3rd peroid, but I thought the Refs handed Boston at least 1 powerplay, the call on Carcillo was soo weak. But the trip on Savard was way too obvious not to call. I know I might come off as a conspiracist, but I wouldn't doubt it if these refs. were "encouraged" too keep these Winter Classic games close.
-
I hope they go far (although they look pretty weak compared to Team Canada). There are quite a few guys on that team that I'm a fan of...almost all of them except for Kane.

I think it was a dirty and illegal. Kopitar may have been reaching for the puck, but he didn't touch it, but...I guess you could make the same argument on Kronwall's hit on Havlat last year, but I think this is just a judgement call and the refs got it right. I don't think a suspension will be handed out because Kopitar was okay, that's how this league works, and I agree with it for the most part.

Lebda s*** the bed on the game winner, but I'm sure that's been discussed to great lengths already. Otherwise it was a great battle of a game, one of the best games I've seen all year. The Wings definitely wern't playing "Red Wings hockey", they just tried to grind it out, but entertaining none the less. I only caught the 3rd period but Filppula has some good shifts, took the puck away and created some chances. Z, Kronwall, Williams, (and to a much lesser extend) Ericsson can't be back soon enough!

we could use that cap space much more effectively. He still has a good shot from the point, but he's just not the type of player we need. We need a Lilja type player, a big D-man that can play on the PK and wear guys down. Schneider is more an offensive minded defensman and we have 3 of those (Lidstrom, Kronwall, Rafalski).
-
I agree. Plus, his shot has declined quite a bit.
-
doubt it, why would they recall a forward to replace lidstrom?
-
at this point, counting Lilja seems pointless. I know he's still on our roster but I don't see how he could ever play in the NHL again since his symptoms have lasted this long. 8 players is ridiculous. If they manage to win tonight that would be quite an accomplishment.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but this post is littered with ignorance. As rage pointed out, you left out Johan Franzen........and you also left out Brad Stuart. And assuming you meant Marc Savard, he just signed a long-term deal with Boston for what most would consider a fantastic hometown discount, so he's not going anywhere, probably has a NTC too...but I have no idea about that. And your comment about Janik, if you're referring to his contributions to the Wings and not the Griffins, how can you say he's been one of our most solid defenseman after 4 games?
