Glencross Suspended 3 Games for Hit

(For arguments sake I will not count the amount of high hits there are in that video, and there are a reasonable number) And why should a shoulder check be illegal and why is a shoulder check now being considered dirty? How is that a dirty hit? Is it possible that other factors could be involved? More players skating with their heads down? Bigger players? Bigger pads? Fast game? Don Cherry's magic 8 ball? You cannot simply write off a situation as one event and assume that is the problem. There are more checks that are completely clean, even cleaner than the hits Stevens used to dish out, that cause head injuries (look at Stuart's hit on Umberger in the playoffs). Is that hit considered part of the lack of respect category? What exactly is lack of respect by definition in the National Hockey League? There are many questions that have no clear answers that have to be answered before you even jump to the conclusion of "well there isn't any respect nowadays, lord knows how it happened but there isn't any respect."

Perhaps it is the fact that the information superhighway magnifies every single hit of this nature to the degree that it seems like dirty hits are more apparent today?

    Still want to trade Osgood?

It is a leap of logic because you use a game where everyone was bad to determine the worth of a goaltender who had two goals scored on him in the three games prior. Also where his team scored 3, 2 and 1 goals respectively in each of those three games. Osgood, nor any goaltender you can find on the market, would have saved Detroit in the Toronto game based on the play of the players in front of him. One goal does not consitently win you hockey games and you are kidding yourself if you expect a goaltender making less than two million to have a 1.00 GAA or less every single game to bail out a defense and offense that is scoring at less than 2.00 GF on average (basing it on the last four). Get real.

    Biron on the Move?

Thanks, I forgot to mention that fact.

    Still want to trade Osgood?

So you are saying that he isn't performing and needs to go. And you decide to use the Leafs game (where he wasn't even as bad as a good chunk of the team) as the catalyst for you making that point. Once again, this didn't need to be bumped based on the Leafs game. And if it hasn't been said yet, it is a single game, after the Wings had won three straight with less than 2 goals against on average. With Osgood in net.

You obviously missed the three games prior to this. Amazing leap of logic you have, though.

    Biron on the Move?

The reason they let Conklin go was because of money and the fact that Howard passed his last year of waiver exemption. So it's either sign Conklin and lose Howard for nothing or give Howard a chance as a backup (after many years of attempting to groom him into a STARTING GOALTENDER) and let Conklin walk. Had nothing to do with Holland thinking Howard was a better goalie.

    What to do with Lebda?

Sorry, you mean to tell me that Lebda being on the ice for so many goals against is the first two lines' fault? Please explain to me how that is supposed to work.

    Still want to trade Osgood?

Exactly what was your intention for bumping this thread, if not to give Osgood a hard time for the loss?

    Still want to trade Osgood?

Actually my post shows that both Osgood and the defense didn't play well. Obviously the GA are going to go down when both parties play well. There is no point here.

So you mean to tell me Quincey did outplay Lebda and Meech but Holland just missed it? Agree to disagree then. Also no need to argue semantics. It's irrelevant.

It isn't worth discussing it every single time Lebda screws the pooch. You honestly think Holland was thinking "well Quincey shows a lot of potential and had a good playoffs, so lets dump him for absolutely no reason!"? If Quincey had shown what he has shown the past two seasons then he would have stayed. He didn't so he walked. He was unlikely to ever play 20+ minutes, so would he have even produced at that rate here? Unlikely. s*** happens. Quincey was one of those breaks.

Enough with the Quincey bulls***. He wasn't good enough when he needed to be, so he was gotten rid of. Bottom line.

    Still want to trade Osgood?

First goal: Lebda f***ed him over Second goal: terrible coverage in front and Osgood was trying to do the defenseman's job for him. Third goal: Snipe in the right corner Fourth goal: Tipped in front Fifth goal: Softie One goal was truly his fault, when the game didn't even matter. He wasn't horrid, he wasn't solid, he was sub-par. The team was also awful.

    Still want to trade Osgood?

That loss was as a team, so if you'd like to be knee-jerk and blame Osgood solely for that loss you are out of your goddamn mind.

Anyone want to guess the over/under for how many times Cherry mentions "Euros" in Coaches Corner? I'm thinking six.

    OHL Hit

The onus is on the player (who knew the guy was coming) for turning his back when the player is right on top of him. No, it would have been just a tragic outcome. When you are inches from a guy and he suddenly turns, I don't care what speed you are going at, you are going to hit him. And in this case it was possible to keep from being in a vulnerable position. The fact that players are in a vulnerable position sometiems does not make up for this kid's poor play at the last second. He put HIMSELF in that position when the other player was less than a foot away. Once again, no one is saying that the vulnerable player is always at fault. You are painting as broad a brush as the argument you are trying to refute. Once again, the vulnerable player is as accountable here as Bertuzzi was when he went after Moore. It was because of both of them the two situations happened, not because one guy was "trying to hurt a wee little 16 year old" or because "that guy 'cheapshotted' my guy a few games back!" He wasn't taking advantage of his stupidity because he committed to the hit before the guy turned away. This "lack of respect" thing is getting old. Hockey has hitting. Just because the guy hits harder than you want him to doesn't mean he is doing something wrong. He is playing the game of god damn hockey, and I will cheer the sport as long as there are people who step on the ice and crush players who have the puck, because that is one thing that makes this sport amazing to watch. You don't like it? Fine. Just don't act like they are terrible players because they do something you wish they didn't. Perhaps Scott Stevens should have let up on Lindros, Kozlov, Kariya, among others. Maybe Campbell and Stuart should have let up on Umberger. I mean they don't HAVE to hit that hard, do they?

    Cristobal Huet

Huet isn't going to be a heck of a lot better than he is now, but the difference is Chicago has the offense to offset the issues in goal, while Detroit does not. That's why Osgood needs to play like he has in the past three. Chicago will be a threat to win the division and a cup contender. No one here can deny that.
