You are carrying on an argument from another thread. If you want to argue my points from that thread then stick to that thread. Don't bring it into multiple ones. Too bad you haven't so far. When did I say the result? I have continued to say that hits from behind are dirty when the hitter has an ample amount of time to let up(citing Ovechkin's hit on Briere as an example). Pay more attention.
-
Cause you know, when the team scores one goal it is the goaltender's fault.
-
Out of curiosity, how good did you expect him to be? 57 points wasn't decent for a player of his salary and skill?
-
23 goals and 57 points in 82 games as a third liner in the big bad physical NHL isn't too bad if you ask me. Once again, bunk. And for the record I had a perfectly fine education, no need to bring up what you are completely ignorant of. They welcomed both Dominik Hasek and Todd Bertuzzi back, and those guys aren't the most wonderful players to have in the locker room. It was a business decision. The same thing as a player retiring before their contract expires. Not a huge deal.
-
First, not all head shots are because of a dirty play (like this one). Just because a player is taller than the other doesn't mean that he should be unable to deliver a shoulder body check to another player. Second, none of the GMs in the NHL want a headshot rule. Knee on knee contact is much more black and white than head contact. Size and types of contact rarely vary with the former, which is why it is very easy to make a ruling on it. The latter has too much gray to make a "one size fits all" type of penalty on the issue.
-
What exactly did either of them end? They made two great body checks. But honestly Hudler has been able to perform in the NHL despite getting his head kicked in twice from those guys. Your "Hudler can't play in a physical league" argument is bunk.
-
Cause Hudler was always on his ass in the NHL. I believe my photoshop bears repeating in this thread:

Your entire premise is faulty, because not everyone believes Kronwall's hits are clean. Also I haven't seen him make a hit similar to this one.

Red Wings VP Jimmy Devellano on Fan 590: Wings fans should lower expec
Doc Holiday replied to kook_10's topic in General
Bowman is a coach, not a GM. -
So this is spot on to you? He is basically saying Wings management isn't allowed to say anything to the media until they start winning. And that saying that the salary cap hurt Detroit is an excuse. You mean to tell me you agree with those bats*** insane assessments?
-
I found it funny and true what he started out with, but then he was acting like Detroit has been making excuses. The first half is good. The second, where are you getting this from?
-
Howard played very well. He made some very good pad and glove saves when the Wings were pinned in their own zone. He played miles better than expected (and much better than he has in the past), and for that he should be congratulated. Also for the record I think Howard was out of position on that second goal. It was still a very well placed shot.
-
Bingo. Especially with offensive players like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, and Rafalski. It is amazing how they are getting outperformed by the lower-tier forwards.
-
Last season. Chris Osgood against the Dallas Stars. 50+ shots on goal. 5-4 loss in overtime.
-
Bad hit by Richards. If you are going to get the head, you should at least be competent enough to get SOME of the body. All he got was helmet. Yikes. EDIT: I take that statement back. Richards got a good portion of the upper body. Still I really think he got too much of the head.
-
I would like to dedicate a single post to Howard's performance tonight. He did everything that was expected of him, and the defense and offense tonight let him down. Good job Howard for proving me wrong.
-
Bingo. He is money in the regular season, and since Osgood will be the one with the playoff duties, there is no worry about Legace choking in the post-season.

I've already stated that Ovechkin's hit on Briere was dirty. But once again you don't understand my point and are attempting to bash me on multiple threads to prove your point. Grow up. For the record I consider hits from behind much more dangerous than "slew foots" because this is normally what happens. A player gets severely injured.
-
First: by calling me an Ovie fanboy, that is an attack on my character. Secondly: Body checking to the front or side is legal. Regardless if a player is in a "vulnerable" position. My ruling is pretty clear. Hits from behind are illegal. Hits from the front are not. Any check from the front is legal and should not be called if a player doesn't see it coming, just gets the puck, or has the puck in his skates but is still deemed to be in possession. Those are all vulnerable situations. Argue semantics all you want though to prove your point. You are twisting my words. Briere had his backed turned. That is illegal and I have even stated that it was a dirty play. Ovechkin also ran into Brown (didn't try to take his head off, just ran into the guy) and arguably dove. That wasn't some dirty play where he was trying to take Brown out of the game. Respect is a term that isn't thought about in-game. When Ovechkin is hitting a player, it is instinctive. He doesn't hit because the player is in a good spot or that there is enough respect to where he can hit him, but because he is there and has the puck. You just don't think about that when playing the game. Ovechkin respects the players, and like every other player doesn't think about respect or lack thereof when committing a body check. Neither did Ruutu against Tucker. Scott Stevens could have had that label as well. But he was a player who respected the players, but just hit people like a freight train. And there are other players who haven't even been fined, let alone suspended. Including Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin: Intent is a big part of any punishment. That is why high sticks are not looked at by the league unless there is malicious intent behind it and that is why Ovechkin has not been considered a dirty player. Because he rarely commits cheap shots, and there is one or two that can be considered as such. He just likes to crush people. So did Stevens. So does Kronwall and Stuart.
-
Want to know why Pittsburgh got so hot towards the end of the year? Got rid of that guy.
-
(provided the hit comes from the front and such)
-
It was a promotion for charity.
-
I am so sick of the "lack of respect" card. Hockey is a violent sport. If you touch the puck you can get hit. Just because you are in a vulnerable position (provided the hit comes from the front and such) doesn't mean there should be a "no touch rule" for your benefit. There is as much a reason to give Ovechkin a suspension as there is to give a player who high sticks players a lot on accident a suspension. Malicious intent is not there. But please call if blind love for Ovechkin. I can't say it will be the last time someone decides to use an ad hominem to attack my character.
-
But you don't get suspended for accidentally hitting someone in the face with your stick. You get a penalty for it. You get suspended when you use that stick and purposely aim for someone's face or head or neck with it.
-
Illegal but not malicious. The majority of it happened becasue Gonchar tried to get out of the way and left his leg out there while Ovechkin's knee wasn't even outstretched. Yes. Not malicious. Ovechkin was as worried as everyone else when he was laying there. Diving is not malicious. Yes. That's what happens when you hit everything with the puck. Also, malicious intent is a big deal, because if a player has the intent to hurt other players (Pronger) they should be dealt with much more harshly than players who are very aggressive, but don't attempt to injure other players. Scott Stevens was a similar way. Didn't try to hurt players. He tried to commit destructive body checks. Doesn't mean he should be suspended for it.
