You are kidding, right?
-
Considering it represents the long dated history (and there are jerseys very similar to that one), yes I consider it a throwback. It is not used in the regular season (except twice) so it is NOT what you would call a third jersey. Detroit didn't do it simply for jersey sales. They did it because their team was invited to the Winter Classic game of 2009.

Off the crossbar.
-
I wouldn't consider throwbacks (that look great) honoring the long history of the teams they represent a "third jersey" in the sense. Especially considering Detroit is the only team that will NOT adopt their throwback as a consistent third. Not even close.

Schneider is the reason Yzerman was out for games 5 and 6 of the Western Semis in 04. Damn high shot bastard. Oh well, good luck in Vancouver.
-
This doesn't surprise me, considering one of my father's coworkers saw Dmac in the Greektown (I believe) casino for several days shortly after the finals.

Guys if there were fewer goons in the lineup Osgood would have had much better stats. In all seriousness, Osgood is a clutch playoff performer. The best playoff goalie? That is very debatable, and isn't really close to my opinion. And I'm a huge Osgood supporter.
-
Keep your head up goalie. Good ole cheapshot. Heh.
-
Yes we were, and I corrected myself. Pardon the slip.
-
How did GR do in that game and the series anyway?
-
Words cannot describe the amount of stupid in that picture.
-
Yes I know the reason. Doesn't make it less cowardly or stupid. And yes I watched hockey before 2004. Take your "since you have a negative opinion about what an enforcer did you are a euro loving bandwagoner" bulls*** elsewhere. Also, that isn't the right clip. You don't even have the right goaltender, or the right team. Either you don't remember the hit at all or you are purposely trying to mislead those who haven't seen the hit to prove your point.
-
And the worst thing is that Holland could have signed some serious depth instead of Hossa, keep the Euro Twins together (they are always money), and possibly coast to another Stanley Cup. Unfortunately for Holland hindsight isn't 20-20 and he made the right decision in getting Hossa at the time.

Osgood gets scored from center ice (twice) in 98. Lidstrom scores on Cloutier from center ice in 2002. Lidstrom scores on Ellis from center ice in 2008. All that is missing is 97.

Must have been talking to Ken Holland recently.
-
No one here has said he was useless. I don't believe anyone has said enforcers are a myth either.
-
Because the "enforcer" crowd (if you want to call them that) is very adamant about their convictions. I think they are entitled to have an opinion, but I think the person who said they were glad to have Downey gone was yelled at too harshly. That's the reason I got into this thread with a bunch of people.
-
Actually you are the first one. Actually, second. Micah, Esteef, Broken 16, and GMR have been pretty good with their discourse. Sure they've been abrasive at times (just like myself), but they understand my position very well. (unfortunately one of them may come in here calling me out )
-
Someone said they were glad he was gone because of that cheapshot, and I was just trying to discuss the validity of having an opinion like that. I've been much more on the subject than you have, that's for sure. "Fooled me" doesn't bring anything to the table except the accusation that I'm a little girl who wishes the Wings wore tutus and didn't have to be hit all the time. I'm not like that, and all you have is my belief that "Enforcers aren't a necessity" to back it up. That's it. Oh and that Downey's elbow to a goalies head was cheap. Congrats.
-
Why even bother replying? If you aren't going to discuss the issue leave the thread alone. And you have no reason to think I'm some "soft euro hockey" lover.
-
The one thing that worries me is I'm not sure if he did. One of my father's co-workers saw him at MGM Grand shortly after the finals. The conversation they had didn't seem too great. Hopefully it was just for entertainment and his life is squared away. It would be horrible for him to fall in that hole again.
-
Never said that. I appreciate the strawman though. I want the fourth line to have energy guys. Guys like Helm, Abdelkader, Downey, Mac, etc. Wasn't much the Wings could do with guys like Maltby and Draper hogging roster spots with their salaries last year, or this year. But I don't think that energy guy has to be an enforcer or a regular fighter. And how do you know they WOULD? Detroit had energy guys and still lost. Why? Not because of momentum. Because the players that needed to produce didn't. I don't. If he wants to provide energy, do what Talbot did against Carcillo in game six of the Easter Conference Quarterfinals. Stand up for your team. Don't run the other team's goalie like a *****. I don't think so either. Doesn't mean someone is an idiot for hating him for that reason. Did they win that game? You caught me, I wasn't a fan until Holland started bringing in a bunch of soft Euros and stopped Dressing tough guys. I was so mad when they brought McCarty back, and I will continue to be mad until there are 12 five foot Euro forwards on the ice for all twenty minutes. And they should fire Babcock too. He is too tough for Detroit. Bring in a pillow with a face to coach the team. And hang bedsheets with pink bunnies on them along each side of him to coach the defense, offense, and special teams.
-
Hurr ******* durr. I never said I didn't like toughness in hockey. Honestly don't be an idiot. Btw, what was Helm in the playoffs, chopped liver? You guys act like there were no energy guys on the team.
-
You can do better than that.

National writer: Don't bury Red Wings yet
Doc Holiday replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
Bingo. Detroit wins when no one expects them to.
