Pretty obvious. Wanted a more direct role, and now he has it. Good luck in Europe.

Silly Red Wings homer. The Sharks are 1st round losers now. Wait four years and they will be non-playoff teams despite being cup contenders every year.
-
Lol. The Penguins in the finals next year. Okay Dan. If that is your real name.
-
That was quick. So anyone know the potential of this guy?
-
How long did it take you to build that gigantic strawman? You guys are a riot.

If people didn't know that this offseason wasn't going to be as groundbreaking as last, then I don't know what to tell them. And there are a few exciting things. Helm getting his first full season on the team? Leino? Osgood/Howard tandem? Datsyuk and Zetterberg Reunited? Filpulla possibly breakout year? No Hudler? We have a scapegoat in Williams?
-
People are getting emotionally upset about this. "I puked in my mouth a little." Really? It's the ******* offseason for crying out loud. Holland isn't perfect, some signings look great, others don't, whatever. Great signing by New York, too bad Williams didn't go for that much. Life goes on.
-
Might as well pack it in now. f*** you Holland, you should have a beer with Burke so you can both celebrate your overratedness.

Devellano says Wings close to signing Bertuzzi

Cause skacore is on fiiiiyaaaaa!!!!! Couldn't help it. -
My point was Lilja has fought with both an enforcer being on the ice and in the lineup (Downey was on the bench). Just like he did with the majority of his fights. My point stands.
-
Lilja has purposely gone after Phaneuf before, with Dallas Drake on the ice. Lilja is not an "enforcer" type, but he is a player willing to drop the gloves, regardless of an enforcer. And it doesn't surprise me we didn't hear anything from Mclaren, considering there aren't too many instances where Detroit players get run at or f***ed with. Is it just me or have Detroit players been getting run more when there IS an enforcer on the ice? I mean I can think of three instances in 2007-2008 where Detroit players were run WITH an enforcer in the lineup. But this detracts from the real issue. We don't have Grier, and it really is too bad because I would love to have a hard working guy like Grier in the lineup and would not argue with adding toughness to the lineup for any reason. However I don't think not getting Grier will hamper Detroit's progress in the regular season or post-season, and I do not think Detroit players will be fodder to getting continuously run at by the "tougher" teams' players. Time will tell, however.
-
But Lilja has done so, with enforcers IN the lineup. Having an "enforcer" doesn't mean that players who are not in that role won't fight. Take Igor Larionov for example. Even Thomas Holmstrom has scrapped with a player despite having numerous "tough guys" in the lineup. If Downey was on the bench, I would still have been fine with Lilja fighting Weber. The end result was a freak accident. It happens.
-
Because (not statistically), Detroit's defense was perhaps the worst it has been in a very long time, and the team was more concentrated on offense.

But he is "Tough" guys! This could be a repeat of the 2006-2007 season. -
When is the last time Pav or Zetts have been run? For crying out loud I only remember Lidstrom getting injured back in 2008 when Downey was in the lineup. Like I said, people get frustrated, s*** happens. Lilja has fought players while there has been an "enforcer" in the lineup, so I really don't see how one would deter him from fighting someone. And I also don't see why someone had to "do" something to Weber. They both fought, Weber beat Lilja fair and square. That's just what happens.
-
Lilja tackled Weber, and Weber went at him. Lilja didn't say "Hey, since we are down 5-0, let me take a penalty and tackle a guy for no reason since we don't have an enforcer to do that!" Lilja doesn't turtle, so having Downey on the bench wouldn't have given him any reason to stop fighting. In fact, Lilja fought Phaneuf back in the 2007-2008 season when Dallas Drake was ON THE ICE. Granted, Drake had a full face sheild on at the time, but he was dressed and Lilja fought anyway. Newfy, make up your mind. Is having an enforcer a help in the playoffs or not?
-
You are putting words into my mouth. The Wings were a classy organization back in 97 and they are still here, enforcer or not. And what I'm saying is that there is no reason to fascinate about what happens in the regular season. Detroit didn't even sniff the President's trophy this year and made it to game seven of the Stanley cup finals. The regular season is fun whether there is an enforcer or not. An enforcer would be fun, but I really don't mind that there isn't one. UNDERSTAND MY POINT PLEASE.
-
Legace was great in the 06 regular season, and since Osgood is the obvious playoff choice, his f***-ups in the playoffs will not be a problem. Price tag is my biggest worry.
-
Yeah, if only we had the kind of regular season team we had back in 06. They were regular season machines. Sure, but I never said it couldn't help. I'm just saying this "on ice justice" is ridiculously overrated here and that it isn't the most important thing. Would it have been nice to have a gritty Grier? Sure. Do we have him? No. Am I going to freak out about the "softness" of this team like other people are? No. Because the team wins, they ice an entertaining product, and management still has a commitment to class and winning. That's why I'm here.
-
Dammit, I was about to make that joke. Also, I wouldn't mind Legace as a backup. He did fine in 02 with Hasek. Just don't give him any significant responsibility and he'll do much better.
-
You are still peddling this? The fight between Lilja and Weber was not because there wasn't an enforcer on the ice? It was because Lilja hauled Weber down and they both got into a tussle and agreed to fight. Having Downey or McCarty on the ice wouldn't have made a difference. Did you look up why his numbers were better in Detroit? For starters, he had to play with Atlanta for half of last season. Your numbers are going to suck no matter who you are. Secondly, his PPG in Columbus was slightly better than his PPG in Detroit. And he only had one above average year in Detroit, which was back in 06. His numbers were better his last year in Chicago than every other year in Detroit except the 05-06 season. Ah, Ice Justice...that's what was missing from the 2009 cup run.
-
When another team can have success for twenty years, through a lockout, through losing players like Yzerman, Shanahan, Fedorov, and others, live through a statewide depression, corrupted city, and keep the commitment to winning and class since the start, then they can have it. Until then, f*** off. The title is ours.

I would prefer Floyd Mayweather.
-
Brodeur below Belfour and Joseph? That isn't homerific?

Please find the quote anywhere on these forum threads where I said that you would quit watching the Detroit Red Wings. My point was for you making fun of such a team and hating such a style, you are still going to watch.
