Was that the excuse for the poor regular season? Defense was awful the entire year. There wouldn't have been so many injuries if Detroit didn't mail it in half the time in regular season games. Regardless of the "reasons" you guys put to why Detroit lost, they were still complacent, and didn't have the drive. Hossa was NOT injured and was invisible. That is an addition who should have made this team better. He was worthless for the price we paid him, and in that regard Detroit downgraded in the post-season.

No cup hangover. Mistakes under the microscope in the offseason. Things like that. Basically the opposite of what hurt us last year in the offseason.

Look at last year. We lost: Drake Hasek We gained: Hossa Conklin Both of those are improvements. We lost. How does that work you ask? The Stanley Cup is not awarded in the offseason.

Exactly, and that has nothing to do with the roster we iced. It has to do with what Detroit expected coming into the season. They expected to walk all over everyone, and they always expected for something to bail out whatever mistakes they made. That was the case until the finals. Now this year they know they screwed up. They have the hunger and the fire back. They know they have to be more disciplined.

How did they somehow become WORSE on defense last year when they lost Drake, and gained Hossa? I thought Hossa was a pretty damn good defensive player.

I like a player/GM/etc more and more once they leave the conference....and the team that I cannot stand.

Well the great thing is they still entertain ME so I have no reason to complain. And considering the numbers the Wings put up year after year I don't see why Holland and Ilitch should be worried about their style being "unpleasing." They still make a s*** ton of money.

The thing is, your opinion differs from a lot of other fans. You would fit in with Philly fans.

If I was a Pens fan, I would be thinking "Probably hurt it holding that heavy silver trophy on Detroit ice" But I'm not.

The Flyers didn't run out of gas, they just got plain beat. But you have your own opinion on what a GM should look for, so I can't really argue with that. Although Kenny Holland's 08 team was able to beat Philly in both revenue and team value. We will see how they fared in 09 and how they will do next year.

Probably because the buffalo actually looks like a buffalo? They don't have to be groundbreaking designs, but as long as they describe the team well and are visually appealing, then they should be used. The old logo (even the black, red and silver one) did that. Also the old leaf is a good, simple design. None of the old logos are bad looking.

If we could sign the Bertuzzi before the Moore incident I'd say hell yes. Now...not so much. Considering we already tried him out in 07.

Are you going to argue semantics all day long? Or do you actually believe Detroit doesn't play a more team game than Pittsburgh? Yeah because we didn't pay Lidstrom money for him to perform did we? Everyone knows Hossa is more skilled than Franzen. But Franzen is more valuable considering the money we put down for him and the money Hossa is paying now. You continue to dodge that fact by arguing that "Hossa>Franzen" and because of that he is more valuable in a cap world. That isn't true.

Yeah, it is quite annoying to hear "we lost Samuelsson" then look through the forums for a thread about it and find nothing.

40 goals or not, he didn't mesh well with Detroit's stars and really only meshed with Filpulla and Franzen. Locker room chemistry aside. No he isn't, but he isn't a good playoff performer on this team. He fit in better in Pittsburgh because that team was focused on star power. Detroit is not. Injuriesss. And the fact he was up for all that hardware this year. Hart trophy anyone? Datsyuk has been Detroit's most dominant player since the lockout, and has been their leading point getter in the regular season. How many points did Hossa get in the regular season? Also lets consider that Hossa should have had more drive than Datsyuk considering he lost in the finals. What happened? Did he become complacent with a cup he never won? Pretty sure he was talking about Chicago being a contender, not how long Hossa has in the NHL.

We might as well tank for a top 5 pick when those guys are on the market. It's not like our team has any talent to begin with.
