Washington is not Detroit. Montreal is not Detroit. I seriously think you are underplaying how dominant of a franchise Detroit has. New Jersey is the only other team that has such a high probability of success in the playoffs. Good teams don't win cups. Great teams win cups. And if Luongo wants a cup he is going to the team that will give him the undisputed best chance at winning it. Montreal and Washington are not those teams (at least right now).

My main point was Luongo will sign in Detroit to play for a contender for less money. No need to act like the two situations will be completely identical. Also everyone thought Hossa wouldn't sign here, considering the offers Edmonton, Pittsburgh, and others gave him.

I can't believe we are having an argument about which of the two best two way forwards in the game is better than the other. You can tell how buff hockey gets you. He looks like a middle aged dad to me now. I'm glad he has a steady job in Detroit's system though. That shows how great guys like him get treated here. Guy was my favorite player when he was here, too.
