Once Holmstrom and Cleary went out last year Franzen was given more minutes in a more offensive scoring role.

Osgood played the second breakaway pretty much the same way as the first. If Osgood comes out and is beat, he is way out of position. If he stays back and gets beat he is too timid. I think he played very solid tonight.

Detroit also had a lot of other things clicking last season. I wouldn't consider Downey a game changer in either direction. But I'd love to have him in the lineup more often.

I understand what you mean. I think that since the Wings didn't wake up the last time they tried that, there was no point. Babcock could have also been sending a message to the team saying "Osgood isn't the problem."
