Tell that to Ryan Malone and Zdeno Chara. I love the "age=skill" argument. His age doesn't make him better than Datsyuk. It makes him a better asset for a long term contract. I'd take Ovechkin in a heartbeat on Zetterberg or Datsyuk's contract, but that is because Ovechkin is in his early twenties and has a huge amount of upside. For a one year contract I would keep Datsyuk. Yeah, I suppose Datsyuk is too much of a girl to fight. Or maybe it is because the Wings like to keep their star players out of the box, and Datsyuk doesn't get pushed around enough for him to have to send a message. Continue to think he is a little creampuff and can't hold his own on the ice. I'll be busy laughing as Datsyuk hits, dangles, and blows by his opposition.

Every game it is the same thing: Just wait till it happens again he may get injured! Just wait till next game, it won't be so funny! Just wait until next game, they are going to push us around! We get it already. Without an enforcer the Wings are too soft.
-
This whole name calling crap is really pathetic.
-
We don't need an enforcer to be successful. We don't need to be without an enforcer to be successful either. I'd love and enforcer on the team, because they are exciting to watch, but I'm not going to freak out every game they don't dress one. It is a business and Detroit is doing just fine with what they are doing.
-
OMG WE NEED MORE ENFORCERS HOW BORING PATHETIC AND LAME DUCKS ROCK CAUSE THEY FIGHT NO SELL OUTS. Yeah, I think we already know that you do not like to watch puck possession hockey, and that you would rather see more fighting.
-
Mac could and he did. Claude hit Kris Draper from behind, and he needed to be punished for it. McCarty beat the s*** out of him. Whether or not Claude was ready doesn't matter. He should have expected it with McCarty on the ice. His s*** was clocked.

Yeah, as blinded as the Blues and Isles were back in the day. Oh wait, how did Osgood fare with those teams? Wonderful ******* ignorance.
-
Like I said, Osgood can't be blamed for other people's mistakes. The Wings have to suck it up and learn to play confident consistently. They were able to do that in front of a struggling Hasek last year so they should be able to do it in front of a strggling Osgood this year.
-
I don't feel solid either way. When I see Osgood play I expect scoring chances out the ass. And it keeps happening. Every game he plays. Breakaways, open players in the slot, open lanes. Osgood needs to play better. That is an obvious fact. But I see improvement. I don't see improvement on the defense, and there shouldn't be such a decline in our defense this year.
-
Like I said before, the defense playing badly in front of him is not Osgood's fault. These are professionals. They should be able to play a consistent game considering they were able to do so last year on a daily basis. Defense should get their act together. Osgood shouldn't be to blame for that.
-
Your homerism is showing. Why should Osgood be blamed if the team plays harder when their backup is in net? Osgood can't change his teammates' play, and that was a huge factor in the loss last night. But of course Osgood is at fault. He should have kept Chelios from making that blind pass straight to a Columbus player, and kept the defense from basically s***ting the bed in front of him.
-
Wingsallwin: I just want to say that saying "Osgood doesn't get mad when he gets scored on" is not only false but has nothing to do with his skill. Also, how many great saves are you expecting a goaltender to make? The point is he should only have a few token great chances against him, and that wasn't the case. Defense broke down and hung Osgood out to dry, and in the third period it all got to him and caused him to let in a squeaker. Yes Osgood should have not let in that last goal but the previous two had to do with deplorable defense. And the reason we only got two goals has to do with a shut down offense. Osgood is not the "problem." This team is.
-
And the defense should have kept Osgood from having to make a large portion of his saves. There are plenty to blame for the loss, and Conklin is not the magical answer.
-
I wouldn't group "Osgood lovers" with "Objective hockey fans". I am an Osgood lover and at times I've been a little less than objective. It happens with fans of a specific player. They can't always be objective about it.
-
Osgood's performance in the first half was all Osgood. No denying that. He has had troubles keeping his game up because he hasn't been confident in his defensemen once this season. The first and second goals were clear examples of that. His play has looked solid at times but, like I said before, he is not getting the same support and I think that is a factor on how he feels out there. The third goal was Osgood's fault. But he had to cover for the piss poor effort of the Wings all game.
-
You know what I'm sick of hearing? Long posts discussing how a single player on the team is at fault for losing games. Because that is just about all that happens here. I'm also curious to know how many games Osgood stole last playoffs? I don't remember any games won solely because of Ozzie yet we won a cup with him in net.
-
And?
-
Good to see the point has been missed.
-
In the first half, that was not the case. Lately, minus yesterday's game, they have looked much more solid in front of Conks.
-
No problem pops. And it isn't about criticism. It is about you making the same excuse over and over as to why the Wings lost their games. Why did Downey not help Detroit beat Dallas when he played? Where was the machine then?
-
Good to know you are here to chime in and talk about how enforcers magically help the team. How did Downey's game go again? And Huskies: Read what he said again. You obviously don't get it.
-
It was a hard shot, above the left shoulder.
-
It helps when a guy like Marian Hossa can set you up.
-
Pretty sure he had two saves against Phoenix where the player was all alone. But of course we have to make it specific because Osgood should always expect 2 or 3 breakaways a game. Especially with this team. Shame on him.
