I think that is because of a couple things: 1. They were fighting for a starting spot on the roster. 2. The playoffs cause role guys to become much more important players Seems natural they would regress once the playoffs were over and they were guaranteed jobs.

Why is it that only the dumb Hawk fans come here to troll when they see threads about their team? At least Free Candy was a good rep. for the Penguins when there was about five threads on them.
-
And that proves nothing. It is not some magical indicator that the Wings should get tougher, or that the Wings need someone for Laraque to completely f*** up on. And that is the exact point of this thread. That Detroit NEEDS an enforcer.

Detroit's reaction to the Habs jerseys tonight
Doc Holiday replied to zetterthancrosby's topic in General
Yeah it is so sad you guys call up us architects to help you guys out. We are the real geniuses of the operation. -
You're a daisy if you doooo. I don't believe he is against enforcers either, and I think it is silly to be against someone who dishes it out every shift and fights guys on the other team. He is a fourth liner, so the more s***h e disturbs the better. However we are talking about using Babcock as an expert when discussing the legitimacy of the "Enforcers deter" argument. Babcock is going to tow the company line because he is a crucial part of the company. If there are enforcers in the lineup, he will preach that enforcers cure cancer. When not, he will talk about the power play being a super duper deterrent to keep players from running our guys. Both are ridiculous statements. Enforcers are tough guys who drop the gloves (normally against other tough guys) and attempt to f*** s*** up on the ice. Does it work to keep guys like Perry or Laraque from starting trouble? Not in my opinion, though it is a possibility. Do they cause more harm than good? Nope.

Could the injuries cause Detroit to miss the playoffs?
Doc Holiday replied to Phazon's topic in General
Anything is possible. However I doubt this team will be this beat up after the New Year. They just have to win as much as possible and not take a single game off. -
Bertuzzi has been helping the team. That nobody can deny. But the problem is he has been helping in areas where he doesn't need to be for his role on the team. He needs to score. He needs to create chances that create goals. Right now he isn't doing that, which makes me feel like he should be put on the third or fourth line, because it seems like he would most help the team in that role. He just isn't working on the first line right now.

The same coach that the year Detroit didn't have an enforcer stated "Our powerplay is our enforcer"? That guy? I supposed Babcock is only a genius half the time... And Micah's assertion that May would have even bothered to fight Laraque directly after a ******* highsticking penalty is hillarious. He doesn't even play on the line that was out there. I think there have been enough injuries on this team that have shown that enforcers don't magically provide defensive auras for their teammates.

Ah yes, the whole "hits but doesn't fight" mantra. I didn't realize body checking someone in open ice meant you had to fight the next douchebag who didn't like it. Me and Kronwall must be the only guys who missed that seminar. Same thing with guys like Mickey Redmond. Lets forget that Laraqu saw Kronwall coming, comitted to the outside then tried to correct himself as Kronwall deked inside and caught him in the knee. We will just assume Laraque was wearing his batman cape and giving justice to all the Havlats of the world who got hit and wanted retribution. Any victim of a knee on knee is innocent. If Claude ******* Lemoo (the misspelling was on purpose) was hit by a knee on knee, I would be saying the same thing. Just because you don't like the way Kronwall hits (for the record he has kept his feet on the ice and he shouldn't have to answer the bell to everyone who ******* wants to scrap with him after a hit. Konstantinov didn't and he was the same way albeit didn't really have a dirty hit in his career) doesn't mean he somehow deserved it in any capacity.

Say Hi Mike Babcock.
-
The play wasn't related to Kronwall's "cheap" behavior, so what point are you trying to make? Unless you are trying to say that Laraque tried to make Kronwall pay with a vicious knee on knee hit.

And fortunately the amount it takes to have your number retired takes more than being a great player who played for the team for a solid number of years. Fedorov does and did not represent Detroit hockey like Lidstrom and the rest of the retirees do/did. That in itself cancels out his skill. Not likely. Depends on how his next couple years go. Still unlikely. Yeah, the same fans who boo him on virtually every opportunity, right? Regardless of what his agent does, Fedorov has control of his salary and contract negotiations. This is a classic case of "the devil made me do it". Sorry, there is no chance Feds gets his number retired.

My attempt at a cleaner version of what they were trying to go for.
-
It's like the backwards Cuban version of the Pens Baby Blue jerseys. Those are bad enough.
-
Maybe Detroit should score more than one goal. Against Florida. Against Florida's backup netminder.
-
After watching it a few more times it does seem like an acting job. Recoils from the glass as if hit by a stick, then pulls off a little performance hitting the ice. Players who get knocked out don't do that.
-
Yikes. From behind the whole way, leads high, on the boards. Good for the five and a game, and I wouldn't be terribly upset with a suspension.
-
I think this photoshop from the playoffs bears repeating.
-
This is the same ass-backwards logic that got Bourque's number retired in Colorado.
-
So, anyone still curious if Feds will get his number retired in Detroit?
-
They didn't call it based on intent. I don't understand why people keep thinking that.
