Actually I don't know if our opinion matters on the issue. If management in Detroit believes he should be retired, then it really isn't up to us.

Man I read this and just fumed up in rage because it just looked at first glance like a total knock on Ozzie. I wish there could be a disclaimer saying "Despite not believe Osgood should be retired he is a great goalie and deserves a lot of credit for his accomplishments"

I would love to have someone who drops the gloves. More emotion in the games and it gets me really excited. I watched the Plymouth Whalers and there would be almost a fight a game. That was the one thing that got me the most excited. Watching players fight shows passion more than almost anything else. And I don't believe the instigator rule does anything about fighting. Just an unnecessary rule.

Beat Terry Sawchuck in playoff wins this year, has the chance to beat him in regular season wins, has the best win percentage of all goalies in the top 15 in wins(himself at 15), winning records for both the Islanders and the St Louis Blues (neither team with potent defense), and the fact he changed his style in the middle of his career is pretty stellar in itself.

In all fairness I doubt come playoff time these fans will be saying the Wings are a definite lock. This is just post-Hossa syndrome spreading around.

And he probably wouldn't have played a significant amount of games this year. Sure it sucks we had him for years expecting him to be a regular goalie for Detroit, but since I doubt Detroit is going to match the offer they have to work with what they have. -

I don't think it is a huge deal. We have Conklin and didn't we just draft a goalie? We should be fine. -
I'm sure the economy doesn't help anything. If I didn't frequent these forums I wouldn't know anything about the Wings signings.

Honestly the only thing I can see Chelios doing for the organization is veteran help for the younger guys. He just isn't that good anymore.

It is funny how the Pens fans like to shun anyone who is remotely good and decides to leave their team. Hossa was acquired at the trade deadline and they act like he has been there for years!

You guys understand if the Wings get anything less than a cup this year (considering we have the most stacked team probably since the 2002 hall of fame team) I am seriously going to burn down my neighborhood. This team is too good to fail.

I cannot stand it when Chelios makes rookie penalties. I know the guy plays scrappy but seriously the guy needs to understand retirement and realize he isn't the same defenseman he used to be. I could honestly want him more if the guy didn't make dumb plays everytime I watch a game. (that doesn't mean every time he plays, just every time I see him he crosschecks a guy multiple times in the back or blatantly trips someone).

Don't forget he is the same guy who passed it to Zetterberg's skates in game 3 (causing an easy goal for Crosby) and made some pretty bad passes that game. I'd rather have Lilja than Chelios at least.

Did you guys miss Eva's post in the last page showing how many acquisitions Burke made which helped the 2007 year? I want to know what Burke did to make the Ducks so unbelievable because all I really see here is "he won the cup in 07 which makes him good"

He sure acts like it on the ice. Seriously? Waving your stick in front of a goalies face? Jumping to the side of the ice trying to draw a penalty? Doing push ups after you score? I don't mind having guys who got a lot of zing to their game, but the guy acts so immature on the ice. If he cools down the showboating and wacky part of his game I won't be ashamed of cheering him.

Because in Detroit, at least currently, anything short of a Stanley Cup is a let down.

Could you assume also that since this forum is torn with those who like Avery and those who don't, you would expect the fans as a whole to be torn as well? So what? He's egotistical and that doesn't make me like him.
