Can anybody help me out with this?

Ansar Khan of mlive.com is reporting that the Red Wings have announced their roster for Saturday night's rematch against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto. Of particular note are that the Red Wings are not dressing as many regular NHL players tonight, 11, as they did last night 15, and Chris Osgood will start again for Detroit before giving way to Jimmy Howard near the mid-point of the game. As Khan points out Osgood played the entire game last night and has allowed nine goals in his last two games. I would have, in the past, been concerned about Osgood's play with the regular season fast approaching, however, his sudden turnaround in play last year when the playoffs began has changed my opinion on whether I should be concerned at this point. Of concern is the lingering effects of a groin injury to Henrik Zetterberg who is once again not in the lineup and won't play tomorrow against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is targeting the Red Wings final preseason game against Farjestad on Wednesday for his return to the lineup. The lineup for Saturday is as follows: Forwards: Ville Leino - Valtteri Filppula - Patrick Eaves Mattias Ritola - Justin Abdelkader - Jason Williams Johan Ryno - Evan McGrath - Kirk Maltby Brad May - Kris Newbury - Jan Mursak Defense: Niklas Kronwall-Brad Stuart Brett Lebda-Jakub Kindl Derek Meech-Andy Delmore Goalies Chris Osgood Jimmy Howard Roster moves The Red Wings made more roster moves on Saturday to trim down their training camp roster in advance of their trip to Sweden next week where they will play one exhibition game against Farjestad before opening the regular season with two games against the St. Louis Blues. Forward Brad May who is on a pro tryout will report to Grand Rapids after he plays tonight against Detroit, and goaltender Jordan Pearce, defenseman Logan Pyett and forwards Cory Emmerton and Johan Ryno were also assigned to Grand Rapids. The Red Wings also placed Kris Newbury, Jeremy Williams, Evan McGrath, Andy Delmore and Doug Janik on waivers. If they are not claimed by any other team they will be assigned to Grand Rapids. Following these moves the Red Wings roster will be down 29 players. Swedish goalie Daniel Larsson will travel to Sweden with the Red Wings as an emergency third goalie in case of injury to Osgood or Howard, and will join Grand Rapids upon his return from Sweden.

Yzerfan, thanks for the tip.

I would be willing to bet that Abs will be taking Helms spot until he's healthy again.

Red Wings' Henrik Zetterberg (groin) to sit tonight by Ansar Khan Friday September 18, 2009, 11:32 AM DETROIT -- Red Wings center Henrik Zetterberg sore groin flared up in the morning, forcing him to sit out tonight's preseason game against the New York Rangers at Joe Louis Arena. Zetterberg said he's not too concerned about it. He doesn't expect to play Saturday against Buffalo but is hopeful to make his preseason debut sometime next week. "Felt a little tight this morning after I stretched out,'' Zetterberg said. "We'll see how it is during the week and shoot for Monday (at Rangers). With good treatment, and smart thinking I'll be back pretty soon. "I've been on the ice long enough now. It would be nice to get a few (preseason games) in, that's what we're shooting for.'' Said coach Mike Babcock: "I don't know if 'can't play' is the right word. We chose to keep him off another day. I don't know if he's going tomorrow or we'll keep him off until next week.'' Justin Abdelkader will take Zetterberg's spot on the line with Dan Cleary and Todd Bertuzzi. Cory Emmerton will replace Abdelkader on the line with Kirk Maltby and Johan Ryno and Babcock said Evan McGrath will be inserted into the lineup. He would center the line with Mattias Ritola and Jan Mursak. The Ville Leino-Valtteri Filppula-Jason Williams line stays intact. -- Center Darren Helm skated briefly on his own today, without equipment. He sprained his AC joint on Monday and is estimated to be sidelined two-to-four weeks. "Doing a little physio, not a whole lot of heavy weights, keeping my lower body strong, ride the bike every day, slowly jumping back into strengthening up,'' Helm said. _________ Somewhere in this forum i read a response from someone the other day questioning when McGrath would play......So there you go, he'll be in tonight thanks to Z's fragile groin.

Saw this over on RWC and thought it was worth carrying over. British writer: Wings fans should tune out to protest Versus, officiating By SIMON VENESS • FREE PRESS SPECIAL WRITER • June 3, 2009 Here’s a suggestion for all Red Wings fans ahead of Thursday’s Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals: Don’t watch. At all. Turn off the TV, do some housework, take the dog for a walk or chat with the neighbors. But leave the viewing to those in Pennsylvania and the suits of the NHL. I’m serious. As much as it seems like fan lunacy (as in, real fans support their team, come what may), it makes perfect sense. First, it will send a message to the blinkered buffoons at league HQ that you can’t put a marquee event on a cable station most people have never heard of and maintain any kind of credibility. The playoffs on Versus is like putting the Super Bowl on Comedy Central. It’s a joke of the unfunniest kind, pure and simple. If the (already paltry) viewing figures for Game 3 are followed up with a near-zero rating for Game 4, the NHL just might realize its standing with the fans is dropping like a stone. Second, it will raise a measurable protest at the way these playoffs have been (mis)handled almost from start to finish. Putting out officials who miss call after call (go back to review the Anaheim and Chicago series if you have any doubts) and then scheduling the first three games of the finals in four days is the kind of slap-in-the-face arrogance that only the immensely successful or terminally dumb can pull off. Third and most important, it will prevent Wings fans from the kind of angst and anguish they had to suffer Tuesday night, witnessing yet another display of officiating incompetence that absolutely cost them the game (see also Game 3 against the Ducks and Game 3 against the Blackhawks). It certainly raises the question of how desperate the NHL must be to ensure their precious series survives to Saturday night and a second chance to breathe the much-needed air of exposure into the finals on NBC (even if the network insists on covering the event as if the only two players involved are called Malkin and Crosby). It’s hard to suggest there was anything deliberate about a schedule that clearly penalizes the defending champs; about a league disciplinary process that waives its own procedure when it might have to suspend a star player (who just happens to be called Malkin or Crosby); and about officials who refuse to recognize when one team has an extra man on the ice for half a minute (perhaps they were waiting for a seven- or even eight-man front?). But fans certainly can be excused for detecting the nasty odor of suspicion about the way events are unfolding, most especially about how the only four people in the Mellon Arena who didn’t notice the Penguins’ six-man assault were the ones with the whistles. So the only way to make your feelings known at 8 p.m. Thursday is to leave the TV set blank, switched off, somnolent. You know it makes sense. Simon Veness is a U.S.-based British sports writer who contributes to the Sun and News of the World newspapers in London. He provided European view of Super Bowl XL to Free Press readers. Now he weighs in on the Stanley Cup finals.

Wings fans should tune out to protest Versus, officiating

I am not going to tune out either. I merely thought it was a good read. Thought everyone else may enjoy it. -
The misconception that Datsyuk and Zetterberg are equal
wingfan40 replied to JeffBridges's topic in General
I will agree that Dats is better than Z. But....I have two thigns to say. 1. I don't think Z has hit his full ptoential. He is having an off season but I feel that can mostly be attributed to the fact that he's been on the 2nd line all season and babcock constantly changes the wingers on him. There is no chance for chemistry. 2. I am pretty sure Z usually plays more on the PK than Pav, which is pretty important. Both are great players in the end. -
I can see him settling for a defensive role in the AHL (hopefully with the Grand Rapids Griffins) where he would have more playing time. Look at D-Mac, he has lost his touch in the NHL but he is kicking butt in the AHL. I bet it would be the same with Cheli. PLus he would be a great veteran presence to help out the up and coming prospects.
-
With Hanks great game last night he now sits at 399 points! He has 181 goals and 218 assists in 422 games. I would be willing to bet that next season he will hit the point per game status. Anyway congrats to him!

At the risk of sounding stupid, what does E3 mean? I am in the dark on this one.

Wings still scouting Thrash Posted by George James Malik February 26, 2009 20:18PM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Mike Knobler reports that the Red Wings' scouts are watching tonight's game between the Atlanta Thrashers and Washington Capitals. ____________________________________ As Deadline Draws Near, Atlanta Thrashers May Move Significant Pieces by Jim Neveau (Analyst)012 readsSportsFebruary 26, 2009 TODAY'S MUST READS Is the Carling Cup Final a Foregone Conclusion? A Fan's Wish List of Non-Conference Matchups Why the Dallas Mavericks Should Start Rebuilding With less than a week to go before the NHL trade deadline, the Atlanta Thrashers are continuing to look for ways to improve their team. Having already moved Mathieu Schneider, the Thrashers are still interested in moving Ron Hainsey and his contract, which will pay him $4.25 million for the next five seasons, and Niclas Havelid, who will be an unrestricted free agent at season's end. Rumors are also swirling today that the team is having difficulty in its negotiations with the agent for netminder Kari Lehtonen, and are seriously considering moving him before Wednesday's deadline. "In my opinion, I'd like to re-sign him," Thrashers coach John Anderson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I've seen what he can do. That's more of (Lehtonen's) decision than ours. I can't speak for (GM Don Waddell). I haven't sat down particularly to talk to him about Kari. I'm sure Don would love to re-sign Kari." Teams rumored to be interested, according to the report on ESPN.com, include the Senators, the Flyers (but probably only if they can move Martin Biron), and the Red Wings (the most likely destination according to a couple of sources). The reason for the trade rumors are based on Lehtonen's contract status, which makes him a restricted free agent at season's end. He also would be arbitration eligible and negotiations have not been going well up til this point. The natural pick to replace Kari in goal should he be traded is youngster Ondrej Pavelec, who at the age of 20 just won AHL Player of the Week, going 3-1 with a 1.25 GAA and .963 save percentage for the Wolves. This comes on the heels of a stretch where Lehtonen has played some of his best hockey of the season, beating the Ducks in Anaheim and holding teams like the Blackhawks and Sharks in check in the process. _______________ I am still really interested to see what, if anything, comes of this.

Atlanta Thrashers Happy homecoming, so far 7:48 pm February 24, 2009, by mknobler After going 2-1-1 on their longest road trip of the year, the Thrashers lead 3-1 through one period of Tuesday night’s home game against the Colorado Avalanche. The Kings, Red Wings and Blackhawks are here scouting this one. The Thrashers looked shaky defensively in the first 90 seconds but then, bang-bang-bang built a 3-0 lead, before giving up a power play goal near the end of the period. Atlanta goals by Enstrom, Kovalchuk and Reasoner. Colorado goal by Hejduk. __________ Who could they be checking out? Laperriere? Armstrong? Those are my two guess's. Both are making around 1mil. We would have to move a player or two (meech, Kopy, Cheli, Sammy????) but the grit would be nice. Either one could play the role that Dallas Drake gave us last year. What does everyone else think?

I am pumped that Z and Pav are both hitting big milestones this season. Z has 176 g, and 212 a for a total 388 pts. Only 12 more to go, i bet it takes 10 games! He is on a rampage lately.
-
i was lucky enough to get to see him play most of the season in Grand Rapids. I just really hope they keep him next year. I am sure they will. With possibly signing Franzen and Hossa we will obviously lose players and need cheap players to plug in. Leino would be great to keep around.

Wings' Babcock next to be fired? Posted: February 23, 2009, 4:00 PM by Joe O'Connor Hockey, NHL Mike Babcock: Beware. Sure, you are the head coach of the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings, and your team is a threat to repeat. But you are also going to Stockholm, Sweden in October to kick-off the 2009-10 NHL schedule with a pair of games against the St. Louis Blues. Sweden may sound nice. But don’t be fooled: Craig Hartsburg, formerly of the Ottawa Senators, and Michel Therrien, formerly of the Pittsburgh Penguins, thought it sounded nice, too, when their respective squads opened the current season in Stockholm. Both coaches were fired. The Stockholm Flu isn’t the only deadly virus targeting NHL bench bosses. Barry Melrose (Tampa Bay) and Tom Renney (New York Rangers) — who was handed his pink slip by the Rangers on Monday — started their seasons in Prague, Czech Republic. They have since been fired. Europe, it seems, kills NHL coaches. It would appear the Toronto Maple Leafs do, too. Renney was let go after the Rangers lost 3-2 to the Leafs in overtime on Sunday. Therrien was dismissed a day after the Leafs defeated the Penguins, 6-2, on Feb. 14. Hartsburg, meanwhile, had a 1-2 mark against Toronto when Ottawa tossed him overboard. Only Melrose, the shortest tenured member of the ill-fated bunch, who survived for just 16 games with Tampa, managed to get the better of the Leafs with a 3-2 win at the ACC on Oct. 28. ________ Is this guy serious? This is ridiculous.

McCarty Returns to Griffins February 24, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL) Grand Rapids Griffins Grand Rapids GriffinsGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday assigned right wing Darren McCarty to the Grand Rapids Griffins, following his activation from injured reserve and recovery from sports hernia surgery in January. McCarty, 36, has netted one goal and has 25 PIM through 13 appearances with the Wings this season. The four-time Stanley Cup champion has also played one game with the Griffins, scoring a shootout goal in Grand Rapids' 3-2 loss to Manchester on Nov. 26. During the 2007-08 campaign, the Burnaby, British Columbia, native logged 13 games with the Griffins, registering 10 points (5-5-10) and 21 PIM. He scored a hat trick and tallied the only four-point night of his pro career during his home debut with Grand Rapids on Feb. 15, 2008. McCarty will practice with the Griffins at 11 a.m. today at Griff's IceHouse, and he's expected to be in the lineup this Friday when they visit the Syracuse Crunch at 7:30 p.m.

i could see them picking up a player like Neil, Laperriere, or Armstrong in exchange for prospects and picks
-
I just saw an article by Ansar Kahn saying that the Wings are looking for a depth defenseman...... Maybe it's Leopold? I hope it's Armstrong.
-
Last i heard about him, he was in Detroit getting tests done on his wrists. I figured he was just going to stay there and when he was healthy enough they would plug him into the line-up for a few games. Today, I was at the mall ( in Grand Rapids) and i walked by Mr. Ericsson and what appeared to be his parents(?) and girlfriend. Is he almost healed and going to play in Grand Rapids or Detroit....... or is he a lot further out than what was originally thought so they just sent him home??? Any ideas?
-
Really? nobody knows what his status is or how he is doing? I hope he is close to being ready.
