I agree. And also mentioned was the fact that we have a great team. We have made it to the playoffs for close to 2 decades now. I can't see opening our season over seas having a big enough impact on the Wings to bring about the firing of Babs.

does anybody know which forward is sitting tonight? Last game they sat Maltby and let Leino play on the 4th. I am hoping the keep Leino in. Any clue?

Red Wings send Abdelkader back to Griffins, call up Darren Helm
wingfan40 replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
Is anyone but me wishing that they would bring up either Howard or Larsson for a few games? Our goaltending has been pretty unimpressive and maybe it would be a good time to give one of the prospects a chance to show their stuff. -
Holland said yesterday that even if they called up players, he wasn’t sure they’d be in the lineup, because how do you tell someone like Derek Meech, who’s been a trooper all season, to sit in favor of someone from Grand Rapids? Well, in the instance of tonight against Dallas, with Zetterberg out, it’d be a good opportunity to take a look at another forward. Meech, after all, is a defenseman, and while he’s done well subbing in up front, the Wings see him as a defenseman long term. taken from Detroit Free Press.

Griffins' Leino, Downey called up by Red Wings by Michael Zuidema | The Grand Rapids Press Thursday January 29, 2009, 10:00 AM Grand Rapids Griffins forwards Ville Leino and Aaron Downey were recalled by the parent club Detroit Red Wings on Thursday morning. The Red Wings were able to create salary cap space by placing defenseman Brad Stuart (ribs) on long-term injured reserve. Leino currently ranks second on the Griffins with 37 points (11 goals, 26 assists) in 44 games. He also appeared in eight preseason games for Detroit, and finished with six points (three goals, three assists) and a plus-3 rating. Downey has two goals, four assists and 71 penalty minutes in 44 games with Grand Rapids. He appeared in 56 games for the Red Wings last season, and had three assists and a team-high 116 penalty minutes. Leino or Downey would become the Griffins' 100th player to graduate to the NHL by appearing in a game with the Red Wings.

Although this is unfortunate for Stuart it will be a good break for a Griffin. Helm and Ericsson would be nice to see brought up. However Helm was recently injured ( not sure if he is back or not) and Ericsson is going in for an Xray for his nagging knee injury. I think our best bet would be to bring up LEINO. We have seen Ericsson and Helm and they have proved that they eventually will be valuable NHLer's. However Leino is still unproven and if we have to sign some low salary forwards for next year, he may be one of our best bets. I live in Grand Rapids and get to see him play regularly and i think he deserves a shot with the big club, atleast a few games. Also Downey would be nice. I hate seeing our guys get smashed all the time and not have anyone to fight for them.

I know i read on here before that you can take a tour of the Joe. Does anyone have more info on it? Days? Times? Cost? etc. Anything would be helpful. Thanks.

have any of you ever written to NHL players?
wingfan40 replied to Holmstrom96Screens's topic in General
This is in no way true. i am an autograph collector and the Wings are great about it. The only person on the team who autopen's is Yzerman. And this is mainly because of the volume of requests he gets. Other than that the only three players on the current roster that have not returned my cards yet are Lebda, Hudler, and Chelios. If you do a little bit of looking you can find there home address's which they are great about signing thru ( usually quicker that thru the Joe). And some players, like Z, sign thru his agents address. To be honest most of the old timers(redmond, ullman, pronovost, howe, delvecchio, lindsay, gadsby, etc...) still sign too. Most of those are thru their home address's. So don't be discouraged by Drupha. -
10 goals in 13 games. Looks like being placed on the second line hasn't slowed Hank down at all. I would have to say it is very liikely that if he keeps up this pace he will hit 50 goals. Any thoughts?

On the Griffins website (griffinshockey.com) in the roster section it lists Leino under the Red Wings section. They usually only list the players that are currently called up to the wings in this section. Anybody know anything about this. Does this mean Franzen is hurt pretty bad, or what? Just curious.
-
Thanks. i am pumped to see Leino play in Detroit. I was at the Griffins game last night and he got 2 goals. He has the potentil to be a great player in the NHL. Hopefully he makes great use of his time with the Wings. However Babcock said he would only call someone up to fill in for Franzen if the injury was serious. That scares me.
-
So after tonights game does he have 3g and 4 a? or 3 and 3? i know it doesn't matter but i am just curious. Either way, he is freaking amazing.
-
If he can keep up this pace he should have no problem reaching 50 goals and 100 points this season.
-
not too shabby. seems like he is already in midseason form.

Ok so i am researching RSS feeds. I want to make a hockey site with self updating stats. Does anyone know where i can get a cheap or free RSS feed for stats? Any help would be great!

Lids-Rafi Kronner-Stuart Meech-Lilja Cheli Ok here is what i feel. I agree that Cheli is past his prime. But he is here to stay. Ericsson would be the better bet, but that is not an option right now(next year!). I like Quincey a lot myself. However i think that Meech proved himself pretty well this season. Plus he can be play a forward position also(versatile is good). I heard from a fellow hockey fan that Meech used to play with Phaneuf in juniors. And phaneuf has nothing but high praises about him. That's good enough for me. I do like that Quincey has been training with Downey to learn how to fight. But we have grit besides him. Cheli, Stuart, and Kronner are gritty and Downey/McCarty can fight and play gritty also. So when it comes down to Meech and Quincey it's close but i pick Meech.

20 shots to 2. that's weak on atl's part. Also i have a question. I am following the game in real time off of the nhl site. And occasionally it says Delay: TV Timeout. So why have a tv timeout if its not televised?
