    Andrei Kostitsyn, being shopped

http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/27694626/31267061 It sounds like Andrei is unhappy in Montreal and the rumor is he is being shopped. Would you trade for him? Hudler for Kostitsyn or maybe Hudler/Emmerton for Kostitsyn? It seems like he has potential to be a 60-70 point player in our system and his cap hit this year is $3.25m. I don't know a lot about him but he has good size and puts up good numbers. In my opinion I think he could be a difference maker with the Wings. What's your opinion?

Prospects Camp: Detroit 6, Dallas 1

Here is a link to the scoreboard: http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=1354035 And here is an article from a Dallas writer: Campbell off to a rough start 6:35 PM Sat, Sep 11, 2010 | Permalink | Yahoo! Buzz Mike Heika / Reporter Highly-watched prospect Jack Campbell got the start in tonight's tournament opener against the Detroit Red Wings, and struggled in the first period, allowing four goals on 11 shots. I'm not there, so it's tough to assess his performance, but Dallas is down 4-1 after 20 minutes, according to the point streak game update. Tomas Vincour has the only goal for the Stars prospects. UPDATE: The Stars are getting pretty much torched, as they were outshot 15-5 in the second period and are now down 5-1. Campbell must have rebounded well, as he allowed just one goal on 15 shots in the second period. ________ Sounds like Detroit had a solid game. I wish we coudl find more local coverage on this.

    What about Paul Mara?

I don't know much about Mara but i hear he has a mean streak and looking at his numbers he seems like he could be useful. I feel like Lilja will never play with what little edge he once had now that he has suffered a serious concussion, and I can't blame him. But i think it would be great to have a big (6 ft 4 in i believe) defensemen that can throw his weight around and also put up decent numbers. Also i believe he made 1.9 mil last season. He is 30 years old now and having never won a cup may be willing to take a pay cut to play for a annual contender, plus he didn't have a great season last year which may also make him willing to take a cut. What do you guys think? Like i said, i know little about Mara and maybe there is a glaring argument against him that i dont know.

    What about Paul Mara?

I am not saying i think he will necessarily want to take a cut, but it's not completely out of the question, right?

Reasons why to have Ericsson play the point on the PP

Agreed, I think his cannon of a shot needs to be utilized more. Plus he can't be any worse than Williams on the point.

    Jonathan Ericsson Watch Thread

I agree. You can tell he is feeling a little more confident with the puck. I love that he is starting to shoot a little more since he has a cannon. Also the main thing i noticed was he hasn't been making horrible passing decisions the past few games. Hopefully he play continues to get more confident.

    Slava Kozlov back to Detroit?

Red Wings-Thrashers rumor 2: Slava Kozlov back to Detroit? By George Malik February 05, 2010, 6:58AM I have little clue as to how the Red Wings would manage the salary cap implications of the following proposed trade, but the Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, who suggested that the Wings were interested in now-New Jersey Devils forward Ilya Kovalchuk on Thursday, has posited another Red Wings-Atlanta Thrashers rumor: February 5, The Fourth Period: So as the Devils gear up for what's expected to be another Stanley Cup run, the Thrashers are left pondering the immediate future. With Kovalchuk gone, what does that mean for the likes of Slava Kozlov, Colby Armstrong, Todd White and Maxim Afinogenov? The Thrashers aren't finished dealing. But they aren't necessarily sellers. "We're looking daily," Waddell acknowledged. "If there's a fit out there that makes some sense, I'm certainly going to look at it." Kozlov has a no-trade clause and will have to approve any deal the team tries to make, but with the Kings, Detroit Red Wings and Flyers supposedly interested, there's a good chance he says 'yes'. Per Matthew Wuest's Capgeek.com, Kozlov's cap hit for the entire year is $3.67 million, and as the Wings would have exactly 20 games remaining as of the March 3rd trade deadline, they'd have to find a way to squeeze in 0.2439 percent of Kozlov's cap hit... (pause while I punch numbers into the calculator) Or $894,308, give or take a few thousand dollars, unless salary went the other way, and as the Wings already have to move about $700,000 to simply accommodate the returns of Andreas Lilja and Johan Franzen, we'd be talking about at least waiving/trading Ville Leino, sending Brad May to Grand Rapids, and moving one of Brett Lebda or Derek Meech. Red Wings GM Ken Holland is doubtlessly kicking every tire, however, and he said this to MLive.com's own Ansar Khan: February 5, MLive.com: Holland said he’s talked “a little bit’’ with potential trade partners as the Red Wings face a Monday deadline to trim at least one player and roughly $700,000 from their roster prior to Johan Franzen’s scheduled return to the lineup Tuesday in St. Louis. The Red Wings can only acquire a draft pick or future considerations in return. And when teams know you must move a player or two or lose them on waivers, that makes it harder to deal. “All you can do is call around, get the word out,’’ Holland said. If he is unable to make a trade, Holland said the only other option is to waive a player or two. I can't see the Wings trading a defenseman away due to concerns about depth, Brett Lebda's status as Snapshots' official "Fire Millen" included, so file this under, "At least Pagnotta's talking about something in the realm of possibility, but it's still unlikely given that Jason Williams is currently centering the fourth line."
  23. Red Wings' Johan Franzen cleared to play By HELENE ST. JAMES FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER Franzen, who hasn’t played since suffering a left knee injury in the third game of the season, has been cleared to play. “I’m good to go when I feel ready,†Franzen said following the morning skate today at Xcel Energy Center, where the Wings play Minnesota tonight. “When I feel good, I’ll start playing -- probably within, maybe, a couple more weeks. It doesn’t hurt, so, when I feel strong enough -- my skating muscles, I haven’t used them in three and a half months.†Franzen, who had 34 goals for the Wings last season, has been skating for weeks now. But he didn’t go through a hard skate, during which he really pushed himself, until last week, after which he said he was sore for days. Franzen had surgery on the knee Oct. 16. Doctors usually estimate it takes four to six months for players to recover from ACL surgery. Franzen said he’ll have to weigh whether it would benefit him to play a few games before the Olympic break begins Feb. 14. That would also open up the possibility that he’d be able to play in the Olympics if Team Sweden needs an injury replacement. “Hopefully, I’ll play before the Olympics,†Franzen said. “We’ll see. It’s pending how I feel.†Also, forward Jason Williams, out since Nov. 7 with a broken fibula, estimated that he’d be ready to play Friday against Nashville, and forward Tomas Holmstrom (foot) said he’d likely be ready to play Sunday at Pittsburgh. Defenseman Andreas Lijla said he’ll meet with team doctors Thursday to begin his comeback from a concussion that has sidelined him since Feb. 28. Lilja will have to be cleared to play, but he now has gone 15 days without a headache. Contact HELENE ST. JAMES: 313-222-2295 or hstjames@freepress.com.
