Hudler for Kostitsyn or maybe Hudler/Emmerton for Kostitsyn? It seems like he has potential to be a 60-70 point player in our system and his cap hit this year is $3.25m. I don't know a lot about him but he has good size and puts up good numbers. In my opinion I think he could be a difference maker with the Wings. What's your opinion?

I don't know much about Mara but i hear he has a mean streak and looking at his numbers he seems like he could be useful. I feel like Lilja will never play with what little edge he once had now that he has suffered a serious concussion, and I can't blame him. But i think it would be great to have a big (6 ft 4 in i believe) defensemen that can throw his weight around and also put up decent numbers. Also i believe he made 1.9 mil last season. He is 30 years old now and having never won a cup may be willing to take a pay cut to play for a annual contender, plus he didn't have a great season last year which may also make him willing to take a cut. What do you guys think? Like i said, i know little about Mara and maybe there is a glaring argument against him that i dont know.

Agreed, I think his cannon of a shot needs to be utilized more. Plus he can't be any worse than Williams on the point.

I agree. You can tell he is feeling a little more confident with the puck. I love that he is starting to shoot a little more since he has a cannon. Also the main thing i noticed was he hasn't been making horrible passing decisions the past few games. Hopefully he play continues to get more confident.

With Kovalchuk gone, what does that mean for the likes of Slava Kozlov, Colby Armstrong, Todd White and Maxim Afinogenov?The Thrashers aren't finished dealing. But they aren't necessarily sellers. "We're looking daily," Waddell acknowledged. "If there's a fit out there that makes some sense, I'm certainly going to look at it." Kozlov has a no-trade clause and will have to approve any deal the team tries to make, but with the Kings, Detroit Red Wings and Flyers supposedly interested, there's a good chance he says 'yes'. JAMES FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER Franzen, who hasn’t played since suffering a left knee injury in the third game of the season, has been cleared to play. “I’m good to go when I feel ready,†Franzen said following the morning skate today at Xcel Energy Center, where the Wings play Minnesota tonight. “When I feel good, I’ll start playing -- probably within, maybe, a couple more weeks. It doesn’t hurt, so, when I feel strong enough -- my skating muscles, I haven’t used them in three and a half months.†Franzen, who had 34 goals for the Wings last season, has been skating for weeks now. But he didn’t go through a hard skate, during which he really pushed himself, until last week, after which he said he was sore for days. Franzen had surgery on the knee Oct. 16. Doctors usually estimate it takes four to six months for players to recover from ACL surgery. Franzen said he’ll have to weigh whether it would benefit him to play a few games before the Olympic break begins Feb. 14. That would also open up the possibility that he’d be able to play in the Olympics if Team Sweden needs an injury replacement. “Hopefully, I’ll play before the Olympics,†Franzen said. “We’ll see.
