    Babcock speaks about line combos

According to Craig Custance at the Sporting News, Babs thinks he'll start Hossa with Dats. Some interesting combos though for the top 3 lines: Hossa-Datsyuk-Homer Hudler-Z-Franzen Cleary-Filppula-Sammy "Discuss" about it here.

When considering the final forward spots....

My prediction, (not what I want, but what I think is going to happen). Sammy - Will form third line along with Flip and Cleary. And remains a bargain 30-40 points. Leino - No real use on checking line. GR first liner, who is called up when injuries occur on top-9 forwards. Top-9 forward on 2009/2010 season. Helm - GR top minutes, + some 4th line minutes. Kopecky - So far I'm not too impressed. GR. Maltby - Maybe not as good as once was, but still brings leadership and experience, and tons of it. 4th line prediction Maltby-Draper-Downey/McCarty

How did this topic end up being another "Downey and jammed thumb" discussion? Seriously give it a rest already!

Downey contrite after he injures Filppula

Amount of posts in this topic hints, that many are suffering from OSS (off-season syndrome). Damn you two! I laughed and dropped my favourite coffee mug on keyboard. Result broken mug, dead keyboard and slight odour of burnt skin. Otherwise hilarious

I guess, I got a bit too worked up over the issue. I just felt that, some of the arguments were sub-standard. I apologize.

    Babcock speaks about line combos

Last two quotes on my last post, had very immature examples, someone could call it even childish. You didn't honestly think anyone was suggesting on building lines by size of the paycheck? You could have just sad that, salary doesn't justify top-6 spot. Just wanted to get you back on track, no offence meant. Never really questioned that. 3mils for thirdline center is bad management, if something. Nothing makes this quote look smart, or even written by an adult. I don't want a endless debate (pointless) over this.

    Babcock speaks about line combos

Ain't going to happen! First of all do you honestly think guys like Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Hossa would settle for an average ice time much less than 20 minutes? I don't! That leaves us with 15-17 minutes for third and fourth line together. I would guess that third line average would be something like 10-13 minutes, but not even near 16 minutes. Increase in scoring output with scrap minutes and no PP time, seriously just not going to happen. Bad argument! ... And another. Paychecks should make coaching decisions, when signing players. 3mills is twice as much as third line center should make. Three choices a) sign with lower amount b) Give top-6 role, or option c) Let walk, anything else is plain ludicrous. Zetterbergs value to the team has bumped up since he signed his contract and he will get much better contract in future, so will Hudler and Franzen. I think you all got the point GMRwings1983 had in mind, but still acted childishly (Last two quotes), get real soon.

Will it not be extremely hard to repeat?

Not too worried, but if it were easy, it wouldn't be fun.

    Babcock speaks about line combos

I was a bit narrow minded, by placing playmaker automatically in the middle. Should have given more thought to it. And thats exactly why I would like to see this line sometimes. Just few shifts every now and then with D and Z could help Franzen maintain his hot streak and confidence. Huds-Flip-Franzen is our next edition of Datsuyk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom, but in order to get there they need top six minutes an PP time. I know many here disagree, but if you take a look at H-F-F stats development compared to D-Z-H stats development it ain't so far fetched. And for sure they have at least potential to be best second line on NHL. I hope we won't waste their potential, thats why I wasn't so thrilled when we signed Hossa. We might end up wasting our future in favor of a one season. To all Hossa enthuastics: No need to attack against this post. I am sure he'll do well, make no mistake about that! Just felt that our future players deserved a better chance, thats all (folks).

    Babcock speaks about line combos

At some point of the season, I would like to see Flip-Huds-Hossa line-up. Would be fun to see what havoc good playmaker with two speedy wingers could cause. And this line would also be defensively great. Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Franzen would also be fun to see. Too many interesting line possibilities, we are badly spoiled.

3Mil for third line center with average ice time of 10-12 minutes, does that sound a bit off or what? And there has been plenty rumors of a trade before season starts. It's seems very unlikely that Fil would have a career year with less ice time than last year. Which would mean his market value would significantly drop after next season. I have a bad feeling that, the contract was done to bump up his market value and get better position when negotiating with other teams. I hope I am wrong.

Which of These Players Should Make the Hall of Fame?

I wasn't implying that, if you remember someone after two decades he should automaticly get in. I'm just saying there's more than just points to make it in, and that "thing" separates legendary players from very good players. If you can't see what I mean, then there's nothing I can do about it. Certainly won't start arguing about it.

Which of These Players Should Make the Hall of Fame?

Rob Blake Yes Peter Forsberg Yes Pavel Bure Yes Adam Foote No Sergey Zubov Maybe Paul Kariya No Keith Tkachuk No Alexander Mogilny Yes Mark Recchi Maybe Vincent Damphousse No Joe Nieuwendyk Yes Pierre Turgeon No Peter Bondra No The question you gotta ask from yourself is, which ones you are really going to remember after two decades. It's takes more than only points to get nominated to HoF.

    Your Thoughts on Best......

Compering Flip and Huds is like compering peanuts and donuts, POINTLESS! Should Hudler play tops six minutes? Hell yes, but with signing of Hossa thats highly unlikely. After Hossa is gone, (and yes he will be gone after this season, don't kid yourself.) Hudler is going to take he's place as a scoring winger. On many other teams Hudler could be top six center, but not on Wings. Take a look at the past and the present top six centers of Red Wings, what are they? Solid two-way perhaps. Like I already mentioned Hudler could be top six center on some other team. On a team that relies purely on offense through to middle like for an example Penguins do. Here his role is top six winger, but if no injuries occur probably only after next season because we are so stacked at the moment. We are lucky to have tons of talent, but it's sometimes even a problem, since not all can get top six minutes. And there is still Kopecky and Leino, whom also could turn out to be great.

    Your Thoughts on Best......

I've been tempted to post on these forums many times along the years, but due my bad English I haven't done so. Here goes first. In this post I don't make a stand on who plays on right or left. I just left the right side of the top 3 lines empty to simplify this post. Everyone has their favourites, but not all can be on top 2 lines. I tried to use brains over heart, when compiling these lines. Inserting Franzen on the first line would give us two top lines with a very good backup for face-offs. Inserting Franzen on second line would waste three face-off takers on one line. So I would fill the ***** marked positions accordingly: 1. Franzen 2. Holmstrom 3. Cleary, and if Franzen can't continue his hot streak I would give Cleary a chance on first line (1.C / 2.H / 3.F). I think this would give us three very good scoring lines, and a system that utilises Hudlers playmaking abilities best. Balanced Lines: 1. Hossa-Zetterberg-***** 2. Filppula-Datsyuk-***** 3. Samuelsson-Hudler-***** 4. Maltby-Draper-Helm ***** Holmstrom / Franzen / Cleary 1st reserve forward spot: Downey or Kopecky Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Lebda-Lilja PP1: Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Hossa Lidstrom-Samuelsson/Stuart PP2: Filppula-Hudler-Holmstrom/Franzen Kronwall-Rafalski PK1: Datsyuk-Zetterberg Lidstrom-Stuart PK2: Filppula-Draper Kronwall-Lebda Special Lines: 1. Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Hossa Catching up line: Use when in desperate need of late game-tying goal. 2. Filppula-Datsyuk-Hossa Speed line: Use against teams, that are suffering from heavy away schedule or are otherwise weared out. This line should make them take penalties at least Sorry about the bad English, I actually tried to use a dictionary.
