Just heard on NHL network Giroux signing an extension, 8 years, and average of 8.3 million a season!! WOW. So glad we had the lockout and maybe that pesky salary cap doesn't apply to them? Holy smokes!

I like the "thinking outside the box and shaking up your team" kind of a trade. I vaguely remember things like that happening here. Maybe not a 7 player deal, but the Primeau and Coffey for Shanahan kind of deal. Ahh...good times. -

Moving to the East, it might not be a stretch to say they will miss the playoffs. I can think of a lot of teams over there who don't make the playoffs at the last minute. They will be playing Pittsbugh, Boston, NYR, Philly a lot more and not getting those Blue Jackets 8 times a year. It's not a stretch to say they won't make it. It'll be close.

That's the problem, he plays on the top lines and the PP and he's a utility player that's paid like a top 6 player. He needs to be replaced with a younger, healthier, legitimate top 6 forward.

A good utility player? Isn't that why we re-signed Patrick Eaves and Drew Miller? We're all stocked up on utility players.

Enough Cleary. There has to be a younger option. If Holland is truly looking to the future, and keep the payroll down, how can he POSSIBLY justify keeping Cleary around?

I'd much rather watch Cleary earn his money from afar where I can see him on NHL Tonight every once in a while having a puck glance off him and he gets credit for it or the other team scores off one of his turnovers. Enough. There are tons of young players who could do more with his ice time.
