Toughness is great. Toughness without speed, hands or a shot is not. Points are better than PIMS.

I don't know why anyone sits around and plays with and dreams of line combos with this team. It changes from shift to shift...you never know who is going to play with who.

I'm still fairly amazed that you didn't get that I was talking about RAY Ferraro. But when people run around creating threads on the first day they join, about players that have not even played a game for the team that drafted them, and asked "thoughts on his first season?" you're bound to get some smart ass comment.

I prefer to reserve comment on players when and if they actually make it to the NHL. The road to the Joe is littered with kids that are supposed to be the next big thing, and never make it there.

The team last year was worse defensively than the year before. Yet Hossa backchecked his ass off. I bet we see a tighter defensive team this year, which might be why Kenny added the players he did.

Just because we didn't sign a big name free agent it is suddenly a rebuilding year? Do you know how many teams would LOVE to be as stacked with talent as the Wings are? Please.

I have to admit I haven't seen him a lot with NYR. But after watching that video, some things stood out about Zherdev. He can handle the puck, carry it with speed and can make people and goalies look stupid. Great creativity. And he SHOOTS the puck and goes to the net looking to score, not curling at the face off dot and looking to make a pass. But is it just me or was he playing on a third line? I did not notice a lot of talent around him. Looked like Dubinsky was his linemate most of the time. If he could be motivated to play like this all the time, I would love to have him as a Wing.

July 30, Columbus Dispatch: It doesn't appear that a deal is imminent, and by that I mean in the next 24-48 hours. The Red Wings and Williams have been talking for two weeks now, and an offer is on the table. But the Wings may have to make a move to clear salary cap space before Williams is able to officially sign. "They're really the only NHL club that has shown any interest," Williams said. The part of that little excerpt from that article that scared me is that the Red Wings WOULD HAVE TO CLEAR MORE CAP ROOM TO SIGN HIM. Huh? How much are they offering this guy? I mean, clear cap room for Phil Kessel or someone like that, but JASON WILLIAMS? Does he come with gum?

I am almost always OK with trading away "potential" for proven talent. So many players don't pan out at the NHL level that if you can get someone who is a star at that level and give away "maybes", it seems to all work out in the end. Take a look at Lord Stanley and see if Anders Eriksson's name is on it. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to win when the time is right.

I wouldn't freak out if he is signed, at that number, though, that is ridiculous. He knows the system, can skate, and has good puck handling skills. Maybe that offer was made figuring they would have to replace Hudler. I think he and Williams wear the exact same size. Makes it easy on the equipment guy.
