Helm is not a natural goal scorer & never will be .....that's a job for guys like Dats & Leino (where have they been lately?). I feel the Wings are a much better team with Helmer on board adding speed,grit ,&energy which always seems to lift the team. If you think the Wings lost last night becauuse of Helm I think you're watching the wrong sport.

Derek Dorsett....Helm's old buddy from CBJ.....he would certainly add some grit to this lineup & would be a good choice for future years.

I got a cheapy CCM jersey with iron-on numbers & ended up paying a lot more then these Chinese knock offs.......would also love to get a Helmer #43 from these guys.......however his autograph on the cheapy makes it priceless!!

I realize he isn't really a proven commodity yet on the PK yet, but Helm in his few brief stints on the PK has been outstanding. The Wings PK to me is their biggest weakness & needs some fresh blood....seeing Helm never gets on the PP he is often rested & could take some pressure off. the regulars who play both. The Wings often look tired & I don't understand why Babcock doesn't use him more often to PK to give the others a bit of a rest. The kid is learning every game & I'm sure would eventually chip in the odd shorthander with his speed as well.

I agree with your disagreement ( I believe he is the youngest Red Wing to have his name on the Cup since 1964...pretty early blooming if you ask me).....as far as potential I have watched his career for years now & always felt he would be someday one of the top PK guys in the NHL,chippng in a few shorthanded goals. He always seem to know where the puck is going to be & uses his speed to get there first.

I disagree with everybody......I guess growing up in Canada CBC has given me nausea thru the years....I found in last years cup finals there was strong favourtism for the Pens ( led by Don Cherry & Ron McClaen )...I actually prefer NBC or VS with Doc Emmerik who I find spices up the game & sometimes actually gets over excited....don't care for Eddy O but enjoyed it when you could actually feel the pain in his voice everytime the Wings scored on the Hawks!!!

I am an older classic rocker & don't really care for much of todays music.....however, last spring when they played "Hell Yeah" by Rev Theory it really pumped me up. I've never been to the Joe &am from Canada(actually Darren Helm's hometown)....but on tv when the Wings stepped onto the ice with the spotlights swirling &that song cranked it really set the tone (they were playing it last spring when Fleury did his famous face plant coming onto the ice.) I was wondering if they play it at all this year as I haven't heard it on tv.

Get the #43....I did! Ti-girl is right....this kid was a long shot to do anything....but he has a fierce desire to improve & compete.....all his career he's given a 100% everytime out & the bigger the game the bigger he plays. He definately is the real deal!

Time to bring back the young guns as soon as possible - Leino & Helm. There is just no energy & sense of urgency with this team anymore...a transfusuion of some new blood is needed!

I wouldn't blame Osgood,#40 & #5 didn't look so hot defensively.....a lot of that this season.

I remember them playing this song just before Darren Helm brought in the Stanley Cup to his hometown rec center last July. I thought to myself this song is fitting for the occasion & after went home & downloaded it! The song kinda sums up Helm's determination in his career...always an underdog ,but always making it to play in the big game.

I would like to see Helm center two snipers....say Leino & Hudler. Helm not being a natural goal scorer is an intense puckhound who can dig the puck out to these kinds of guys who can score from impossible angles. He's had success with both of these guys in the past & with improving faceoff skills can set these guys up frequently each shift......notice how a lot of Wing PPs lately have been caused by Helm's intensity & speed?

I like that....the Manitoba Mafia on the same line. But seriously,look at the 4th line we had in the playoffs & the 4th line we have now ....no comparison. With Helm at center the unit constantly added energy,kept the puck out of our end, & even added a few key goals. I complained about Kopecky at the beginning of this season & most here said he needed time & was coming on. How much time does the guy need?? I wouldn't want to write Draper totally out of the picture yet....make him ride the pines for a while & he might get an attitude ajustment. Anyway, the 4th line now has no chemistry & the whole team is suffering because of it.

There it is!!......thats the attitude the Wings need to jumpstart themselves. LOL

I stated at the beginning of the season that adding Hossa might not be the great thing everyone thought it was.....but I got stomped into the ground by everyone so I kept quiet. It seems ludicrous that adding a 40 goal a year player would not be good for a team, however adding a guy like Hossa can upset the chemistry of the team. Last spring the Wings had that chemistry & all four lines were pulling like a well oiled machine (even Don Cherry commented "these guys aren't even working up a sweat"). Now that chemistry is gone & although the Wings have a decent record the domination is gone & a lot of games have been won by the skin of their teeth. You can stack a team with the best players but if there is poor team chemistry championships are hard to come by. I think this has affected Zett's play as well as many others.....just my thuoghts & I hope I'm wrong , but something is up wth this team!
