Congratulations Helmer.....you can't put a value to what this guy brings to the team......HEART.....never takes a shift off.......St.Andrews, Manitoba is very proud & happy for you !!
-
Micky pointed that out saying most don't realize how important Helm is to this team
-
We could use a guy like Colton Orr......never score a lot of goals but a real team guy who would hold other teams accountable when they constantly run our premier players or our goalie......he doesn't win every fight but he has broken a few noses around the league!! Being a huge Helm fan I remember in 2008 when he was called up for the Cup run, he had a thing going with Brooks Orkpik......whenever Orkpik took a few liberties with young Helmer, McCarty was right there right away to make sure things went "smoothly". This is something this years team misses badly!

Against the Leafs in preseason ,Helm got 3 pts. on the PP & was first star!
-
I think Helm should be given the odd powerplay shot & see what he can create with a little more open ice.....not sayin he should be on the # one or two PP units....but the odd chance would be nice. I can think of a few times when due to botched line changes Helmer has ended up on the ice with Zett or Dats & the puck has gone in the other teams net. I remember this preseason when Helm anchored the "Grand Rapids Red Wings" against the pretty well full Toronto Maple Leafs & he got a goal & two assists on the PP & was first star. Late last season & early this season our PP has been kinda lack luster & I think a little fresh blood on it might help!

best post of the new season so far!!...hahahaha -
I bet Helm is happy he didn't sign with us......so Jovo wouldn't finish off his Darth Vader Death Grip (from last springs playoffs) at training camp.....haha
-
To me thats just a late, late hit.....the puck was way up the side boards & Horton had nothing to do with the play anymore. I feel if they would have severely punished these types of hits earlier in the last few years there would be a lot fewer concussed players today.....once a guy gets rid of the puck he is out of the play & it shouldn't be open season on him.....most of Scott Stevens hits were of this nature & it should have been stopped then, instead of being praised. Now a lot of key players are getting concussions & a lot of them never return to their original selves on the ice. I like a hard hit as much as the next guy, but these Torres kinda hits have to be stopped or the game will become like UFC in nature.

How about on the ODD powerplay?......wouldn't it be fun to see Helm digging it out of the corners or behind the net & feeding it to our two smartest players!!
-
Come on Helmer.....you got one for mom last year....do it again!!
-
They just interviewed Helmer on CBC & his face wasn't too marked up lol
-
Had to laugh at the CBC announcers who thought Helm was faking when he was high sticked.... had to show three replays before they unwillingly admitted the stick hit his face. ....guess they are favouring the Jets!

whoever plays "Cam" on Modern Family & Cee-Lo Green -
According to Edzo Pasha scored because his precious DUNCAN KEITH wasn't on the ice!
-
He wasn't that great on the PK in overtime last night.....just sayin'.......I think Helm would have been a better option with the open ice of 4 on 3. I think Flip is NOT worth his salary...too soft & always iinjured for long periods of time. I'm not saying he isn't valuable.....just not 3M valuable!
-
To me he clearly left his feet & jumped into Gomez......that is a penalty.
-
the guy is +10 this season in +/-.......about fourth highest on the team.......pretty good I'd say considering the role he's been given.
-
Don't forget, Helm has gotten these points playing exclusively with lo-end goal scorers & Babcock has rewarded him with ZERO minutes on the PP.....yet in his limited minutes per game he has scored some huge goals including 7th game goals,OT game winners,& a series ending OT goal. If I was the coach,he would be the first guy I would have on the ice in 4 on 4 situations in OT ....with his speed he can play at both ends equally as well. I would love to see him get to play a few games up with the big boys just to see what would happen. He has always been a long shot through out his career & yet has always overachieved...all due to a hard work ethic & a love of the game. I honestly don't know of any Red Wing who gives a better effort game in & game out. I only think he will only get better & that is a good thing for the Wings as some of the older stars start to slow down...something that unfortunately seems to be happening.
-
Yeh, & Helm was once again the hardest working Red Wing.....he shows up every game more than anyone on this team that seems to be now coasting.....I think Helm would look good in Carhartt brown!
-
He better play.....there's a bus load of fans coming down from St.Andrews & Winnipeg down to Minneapolis to watch him play.....theres a lotta love for this kid in our local area....the signs saying " Home of Darren Helm 2008 Stanley Cup Winner" are still up on every major road leading into the St.Andrews municipality!!

I think besides Stevie Y's brilliance it has to do with Stamkos....the guy is now leading the league scoring with Crosby out & leads PP goals & pts. This guy is the next big thing, yet even here in Canada you hardly hear his name mentioned...I think a lot of hockey fans don't even know what the guy looks like because the media is flooded with Crosby & Ovie & yet he may be just budding out as the best player in the world. A lot of this is due to Tampa games hardly ever being shown nationally being down in the Sunbelt. With a supporting cast of St.Louis,LeCalviere, & now a reliable goalie this has become a real team......and soon people will notice!

I'm old school so some of the guys I have met played a while ago. In the 60s I met Abby MacDonold who at the time was with the Hawks who was from my home town & was having a few drinks with an oldtimer neighbor....very nice guy. In the 80s I met both Bobby Hull & Gordie Howe at promo events.....you can almost feel that there's greatness in the room with these class guys..... Gordie was very soft spoken & pleasant & Hull seemed like the kinda guy you could have a few beers with & a lot of laughs. Also in the 80s I met Oilers Ken Linsman,Paul Coffey, & Marc Messier at a bar after a Wpg. Jets game. The "Rat" was always moving on the prowl, Coffey seemed to not want to talk to anyone, but Messier came over to us & talked for about 45 minutes laughing about the game & a fight he had during it. It was such a good time I didn't even bother asking for an autograph....didn't want to wreck the moment....he was a mean player but you couildn't meet a nicer guy. I'm from Darren Helms hometown & met him a few times (actually a lot of times when I used to own the corner store & he was 5 or 6 years old & would come in fully dressed in his hockey equipment with his mom....I remember he would always stop to look at the movie rentals & his mom would be yelling "Darren get over here". When he brought the Cup home in 2008 to our local arena at the rec center, it was truly a great day & I got him to sign my #43 jersey.

I've never seen that before however one cold frosty night years ago here in Manitoba at the outdoor rink one of my buddies took a hard wrister and broke the net frame where it curves into the cross bar....it wasn,t just cracked but a complete break....now thats what I call a heavy shot!
