So true, would love to bring in a big fourth line guy to handle guys like him who take runs when there is no push back

    Cherry rips Holland

I dont particularly disagree with you about Eaves throwing hits though, but I find many of hits have little if any effect. IMO he doesnt have the size or attidtude to throw hits that would wear a team down like a Konopka, Clowe, Martin, or even an attitude like clutterbuck. These guys hit to wear the other team down and hit to cause pain.

    Cherry rips Holland

Would be willing to trade any or two of eaves, miller, emmerton for boll clifford or martin. Their size would make more a difference come playoff time.

I would love to add a guy like Matt Martin to this teams bottom six

    NHL Players That Should Retire

Marty's later years are hard to gauge, hes still a top 3 goalie of all time, however not all hall of famers have enjoyed the great ends to their career like lidstrom and teemu. However, while Marty;s numbers have dipped, the defense New jersey ahs put on the rink in the past couple years has been terrible. The defense this year make Ericssons mistakes look good. They cant defend and are constantly turning the puck over, its been this way since theyve lost their great core of dmen. His game shows that being the wokrhorse all those years has taken an effect on his body. Hes been burnt out for much of the devils latest playoffs appearances, highlighting the need for a good backup in todays league.

Tortorella fined 30k for WC comments

We all knew a fine was coming, Im sure Torts did as well. You absolutely cannot question the integrity fo the game. Sure the refs may have been more generous to the flyers, but the league (or any other for that matter) can have a coach saying that the network and league got together to fix a game. I agree 100% the calls he was referring to were terrible and Id be up in arms too, but calling the integrity fo the league and television network is off limits. I also agree the fine does seem a bit overboard in comparison to the max against the players, I would have liked to see something in the 10,000 range

    The Official NHL Suspension Thread

I think hes been more consistent than Campbell but thats not saying much. I am not overly enamored by the job he is doing. I think many of the suspensions have been too harsh considering how guys have gotten away with fines or zero games for other illegal plays.

Ryan Miller's opinion on Milan Lucic

Agree with your post 100%, so far I have hardly been a fan of Shanahan. Looking forward to the remaining buffalo boston match ups to see if anything transpires, however knowing how soft buffalo is i doubt it

    The Official NHL Suspension Thread

Bad suspension, shouldn't have been anything more than a 2 min penalty and perhaps a fine, but this is excessive

    The Official NHL Suspension Thread

I think its been a combination of players being smarter in the regular season, but also a reduction in Shanahan's toughness. Right now there is a good balance IMO. The suspensions in the preseason sent a message. I think this hit some of the players, but at the same time I didn't think such a stringent standard could be kept up all season long.

    CBJ's Rough Start

Im gonna go ahead and point out your skewed stats, sure hes 21st if you include goalies that have played anywhere from one minute to 82 games played. Taking out those goalies whose body of work is not enough to compare to Mason's we find him much higher on the list. Using a minimum of 20 games which is low for NHL leader standards, we find him at 12th for save percentage, 3rd in GAA and 10 shutouts, 10 games where he earned his team a minimum of one point even if they didn't score. You're minimizing his accomplishments that year, he wasn't the sole reason for their good season, but was a major factor. One of their reasons for a slow start also could be the suspension to WIz. No matter what you think of his contract or defensive play, there is denying he is a power play asset. The BJs were putting alot of stock in him eating up minutes and boosting their power play and putting up points. Missing an integral part of their team no matter how good you may think he is, will hurt the team.

    Central Division

Ill take a stab at it 1. Detroit 2. Chicago- good solid team, biggest question is how Crawford will hold up in his sophomore season 3. Nashville- I see them competing with Chicago, it could really go either way, like their style solid defensive hockey coupled with some good physical play and timely scoring 4. St. Louis- like a few of their low risk veteran additions, a healthy season form all their players could put them in the playoffs, if Halak performs well theyll be right in the thick of the hunt, most likely grabbing that 7th or 8th 5. Columbus- They have certainly improved, but questions remain around Steve Mason, with no reliable backup in site theyre hitched to him. If he bounces back to his rookie form combined with some of the additions they made in the offseason, namely Carter and Wiz they could easily find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt down the stretch run

Team Assessment - Player by Player

Good job! Ill take a shot at this Here are the forwards and my line combos Hudler Datsyuk Cleary Franzen Zetterberg Filpulla Bertuzzi Helm Abdelkader Eaves Emmerton Homer Brunnstrom Miller Lidstrom White Kronwall Stuart Ericsson Kindl/Commodore F Justin Abdelkader I would like to see him up his physical game even more and put up a little better offensive numbers. Also hopes he stays in the plus side. Cut down on dumb penalties!! Hoping for 10 G 15 A 25 Pts 5+ fights Todd Bertuzzi While I am hopeful he continues his shootout prowess consider we falter alot there, I think he continues his performance from last year. Hopefully he can keep up his semi-physical play. 18+ goals would be nice in addition to 25+ assists, an ideal season would have him up around the 50 pt mark. However, I think he will hover more around the 40 pt mark as he continues to slow down. Fabian Brunnstrom Tough to judge considering im uncertain how and if hell be used. Danny Cleary One of my favorite wings, I am hopeful with constant linemates he improves on his career numbers form last year. Has a pretty damn good nose for the net and with skilled line mates im hoping he can flourish. Ideal Season would have him entrenched on the top two lines putting up 28+ plus goals and gathering 54+ points. In addition I know hell continue his grinding physical play and maybe gets into a scrap or two! Pavel Datsyuk I really want Pavs to increase his point total into the upper upper echelon of the league. Hopefully with continuous lines and chemistry he can approach 90+ points. I also would expect him to compete for the selke again. More importantly I want him to remain healthy for the year. 35+ goals and 55+ assists would be great Patrick Eaves My only hope for eaves is he just continues his solid play. 12+ goals 10+ assists great PK and solid physical maybe add a scrap or two as well I also expect him to shuffle between the third and fourth lines. Cory Emmerton TBH not expecting much, just hoping he goes out and competes every night. 10 points would be nice if he plays the entire year, however I don't see him playing that much with Mursak and Miller moving into on his territory. Valteri Filpulla For me its now or never if FIl can take the next step in the regular season. His sound defensive play is a given. I would like to see him improve on his +/- which has been a minus thepast two season. If he can crack the 20 goal and 50 pt mark I would be extremely happy. Johan Franzes is realistic Would love to see some consistency. ANything less than 35 goals would be a letdown in my mind. Darren Helm Very happy to see him entrenched as third line center. His speed and desire is and always will be there. Im hoping his responsibilities as center continue to grow. An improvement in points is expected and hopefully he moves into the 40 point range. And of course I hope he ups his physical play even further. He'll be in for a nice raise. Tomas Holmstrom While I won't deny his accomplishments, I no longer like seeing him on the roster. My hope is he strictly plays fourth line minutes and pp time. 10+ goals with most if not all coming on the power play. I do see him as a liability out there and expect to see him in the pressbox at times throughout the season. Jiri Hudler Heres to hoping he remains in the top 6 and gains some chemistry with his line mates. If this happens I expect 50+ points and 20+ goals. Drew Miller Not much of a fan, expect more of the same solid PK and good fourth line play. Expect him to rotate in and out of lineup hopefully creating some competition. Jan Mursak Tough break for this kid. Hopefully he comes back flying and puts up some points and hustles all over the ice on the fourth line. Henrik Zetterberg Continued great puck pssesion skills and playoff prowess. 80+ points and 30+ goals
