I suppose they could always speed that process up, but I would think that would depend on what kind of treatment he has to do for the substance abuse program.

I've never seen anything in his game that warranted an NHL shot, maybe it's because he's got a penchant for taking brutal, ill-timed penalties. He's got moments where you just love his game, and others where you just shake your head.
-
I don't think he gave him a shot, I think he just went to say a few words to him (which is probably fairly useless as I doubt Cherepanov has the ability to understand that kind of English) and the linesman kind of shoved him back, giving the look that the player took a shot at Cherepanov. BTW, the kid is #17 Karl Alzner.

He's a decent AHLer.....will put up some decent points and has some toughness.

Here's the deal..... Pappin will give the guy $1,000 up front for the ring. He's going to sell the replica and give the treasure hunter a percentage of the sale. It isn't known what the percentage is. Pappin says he's had offers up to $20,000 so far for the replica, but hasn't decided if he's just going to sell it, or auction it off.

Lower bowl (which is generally what you hear on TV) is pretty quiet, but the upper bowl is a lot of fun.

Only bonus-structured contracts (entry-level, 35+ players & players with 100+ days on IR during previous season) are allowed to put teams over the cap. Yes, as well as bonuses that would put a team over the salary cap during the season.

The only way the scheduling would make sense is if they went back to some sort of divisional playoff series for the first couple rounds. The only divisional teams to face each other in the playoffs this year was Buffalo and Ottawa. If you're going to shove "divisional rivalries" down our throats, at least guarantee that there's going to be playoff series' with those teams in the spring. That's the only way it's going to work.
-
From the schedules I've seen, that appears to be intentional on a league-wide scale.

Yeah, that's Hockey Day in Canada. Four games....one in the afternoon, two at 7pm (the other being Battle of Alberta) and then the COL/VAN game at 10.
-
It's going to be Penguins/Sabres on Jan. 1st @ Ralph Wilson Stadium. Still some issues to iron out, but it's going to be in Buffalo.

The Rangers are going to be a fun team to watch. High-powered offence and non-existant defence.
-
The Leafs have already been approved for an outdoor game (I think it's supposed to be New Years Day '09), though it would be at the very small BMO Field.

No, he's a UFA, but he had major issues with post-concussion syndrome last season. Not sure if he's essentially retired or not.
-
Yeah, I think I read something like 9 or 10 million. Rangers have just under $10 million left to spend, but they still have to sign RFA's Lundqvist & Avery. In reality, they probably have $2-3 million or so left to spend on Shanahan, assuming they want to leave a million or two free for the season.

Oilers sign RFA Vanek to 7-yr, $50M Offer Sheet

Lowe accomplished what he wanted to do here. He knew there was no chance that Buffalo was going to let this kid walk. The point was to drive up salaries for restricted free agents, forcing teams to eat up large amounts of payroll on long-term deals. This was to set a benchmark for guys like Penner, Parise, Emery, Lundqvist, Ryder etc. Kevin Lowe knows he's not going to spend anywhere near as much as he had planned. That means he's going to have huge amounts to spend next summer (unless he makes a big trade taking on a large salary or two in the meantime) and he's taking a few teams out of the running by forcing them to chew up large amounts of payroll on RFA's that normally would not cost as much. Kevin Lowe did this with next summer in mind. He also did it as a statement to Oilers fans that he's still trying to improve the club. -

Tim Panaccio of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports veteran forward Jeremy Roenick will announce his retirement shortly.

Well, for starters, he's like his brother in terms of being injury prone.....he sneezes and he's out 4-6 weeks. He does use his size, but he's got a fairly poor attitude for a guy who hasn't done anything to prove that he belongs in the NHL. He essentially gave the Leafs an ultimatum this spring that he either get a one-way contract or he goes back to Sweden. He went through the motions for the Marlies last year and really showed no emotion or dedication to his game. For that reason, he was passed over a number of times for promotion to the NHL last season.

I don't think they'd have any issue dropping Kronwall like a sack of bricks.
