    Ducks deal O'Brien to Tampa

To turn around and deal that 1st rounder for a rental forward.

He made it official a couple months ago or so.

    What's Going on With Ovechkin?

Caps up 2-1, Ovechkin is pointless and even more surprisingly, has yet to record a shot with just under 10 mins to play in the 3rd.

    What's Going on With Ovechkin?

He's killing my pool....at least Semin is still putting up points fairly regularily. Caps have three games left this week. Hopefully he breaks out and saves me from defeat this week.

    Seattle looking to join NHL?

15,500, I think....with the space to expand a couple thousand seats. However, they have enough private boxes in that thing to even it out. Just a matter of selling them.

    Forsberg trade close

Peter Forsberg has been scratched from tonight's Leafs/Flyers game because a trade is close, rumoured to be to Nashville. EDIT: Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent, 1st rounder & 3rd rounder to Philly for Forsberg.

    Seattle looking to join NHL?

Calgary has some seats that were covered in previous years that are now in use that don't count towards their official seating capacity. Plus, standing room is usually not factored in when it comes to seating capacity.

    Forsberg trade close

TSN believes the trade is as follows: Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent, a first round pick and a third round pick Conflicting reports as of right now....

    Forsberg trade close

EDIT: 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick, which would become a 1st rounder if the Preds re-sign him. Also, Cody Frason may also be involved.

    Seattle looking to join NHL?

I think all of the major sports would like, no make that love, to be in Vegas, but they don't want to be the first one to go in there and get all of the gambling attention. I know that the ECHL team in Vegas sometimes play games at midnight to allow casino workers to get out to the odd game. It would certainly be an interesting market, that's for sure. Or it could be a fantastic thing for rivalries.

What makes Columbus such a bad market? Averaging nearly 17,000/game with a team that has never even competed for a playoff spot is pretty impressive. I think that's a pretty stable market for the time being. Do people just assume Columbus is a poor market because the team is bad and it's a recent expansion city?

I never said the timeline would be the same, but I believe at some point in the near future, they will turn a corner when MLSE has no choice but to hand day-to-day management over to competent people. Buying Brian Colangelo and the success he has brought the Raptors will force their hands with the Leafs. Already have my Opening Day tickets.

Oh well, they said the same thing about the Dead Things era, and Detroit turned it around. The Leafs can do the same, they just need to make some changes at the upper level.

    Owen Nolan

He barely played for the Leafs in the playoffs. He was hurt for both playoff years he was with them.

The teachers are getting out soon, so they say. Ted Rogers and Larry Tanenbaum are poised to buy their shares. The Flyers didn't rebuild on purpose, they did it because their team fell apart and they had no choice. So far, they're doing a pretty poor job of rebuilding, by trading guys like Freddy Meyer for an old fart like Zhitnik. Mats Sundin has an NTC, he is only going to be traded if he wants to be. There's no reason to think that he does. If Tucker is healthy in two weeks (looking unlikely, as he's yet to return to even skating lightly), I think he'll be traded, but only if the Leafs are falling away from a playoff spot. McCabe and Kaberle both have NTC's, as well.

Actually, he is like Forsberg in that he can go down to injury for long stretches in the snap of a finger.

    '67 leafs

Yeah, but they aren't going to get anybody worth their salt to be GM without that kind of a clause. They'll be forced to hand it over, in the end. They won't be able to get away with hiring a nobody again. They admitted mistake after they fired Rob Babcock, and hired a professional headhunter to pursue the best possible candidate for the job, and ended up with one of the best in Colangelo. I think you'll see much the same with the Leafs. They control the Leafs a lot more, but they're going to dearly miss their playoff revenues for the second straight year (keep in mind the Leafs also gave over $10 million in revenue sharing) and they'll do what it takes to get a guy in there that can get them back to the show.

That will change when the new GM (said to be Colin Campbell) gets the Colangelo Clause.

Well, I can sleep well knowing that he'll never get traded to the Leafs.

The best part about the whol '67 reunion is the return of Dave Keon to Toronto. He's going to get an incredible ovation on Saturday night.

Shane Doan close to new contract

If TSN is saying it's close, then it is a done deal for all intensive purposes.

Newbury of the Leafs taken out on a stretcher

Well, Newbury is said to be OK, no skull or spinal fractures. He did in fact hit his head off the ice, it just wasn't the pronounced thud that one would normally look for. To further that point, he did attempt to throw a punch on his way down. Looks like he may be lucky (if you can even call it that) to just end up with a severe concussion.
