Yes, Smyth did sign (TSN, Sportsnet both reporting it) for 2 years with Edmonton, meaning he's off the market for this season, at the very least.

Replaced them all with younger players: Alexander Steen (21), Jeff O'Neill (29), Eric Lindros (32), Jason Allison (30), Alex Khavanov (33), Mikael Tellqvist (25) (or J.S. Aubin, whoever wins the backup job) & Carlo Colaiacovo (22). They have gotten much younger, and aren't nearly the oldest team in the league anymore. Yes, McCabe is a physical defenceman, but he's their only one. Belak? Defence? That's a scary combo for ol' cement feet Wade. Berg is as soft as a down pillow. Neither he or Kaberle are very physical at all, which is probably why Detroit would want them in the first place I kid, I kid. Yeah, I don't believe this one.
