The single biggest scapegoat of the Red Wings in the last 20+ years...

The Leafs offered him more money ($9 million or so) but he made a "hockey" decision. -

Geez, I dunno.....Find some stuff around the time he signed back with Toronto a couple years ago. He made some quotes then about leaving in 2002...and he probably did again when he announced his retirement. -

CuJo still says to this day the biggest mistake he ever made in his career was signing with Detroit. I don't think he has forgiven just yet. -
Was it ever confirmed that Burke got those offers? I thought it was just the usual B.S. on blogs and Twitter. I would rather lose Kaberle for nothing than take on Ryan Malone's contract.
-
I really have no idea. Kaberle was the one expendable asset Burke had to get another forward, so I have no clue what the next move is, if there is one. Free agent pickings are pretty slim.
-
I really don't see them trading any of them right now. I think Kaberle gets shopped at the deadline and this whole fiasco starts up again. Komisarek, Beauchemin really aren't worth trading because of the money they are owed. Kaberle is obvious. Lebda just got here. Schenn & Gunnarsson are too young to trade unless you get an offer you can't refuse. Phaneuf is the captain. Finger is an anchor and is probably bound for the AHL.
-
Lebda appears to be press-box bound at this point, though somebody is bound to get hurt. Not trading Kaberle has certainly opened up a spot in the top-six for Kadri.
-
Don't underrate Gunnarsson. He was better than most of those guys last year at times. Steady and reliable. He's got that Swedish poise.

Just enjoying summer. I'll start to get antsy for hockey when it's training camp, waiting for the real thing to start. Training camp drags on way too long.

The Devils weren't allowed to present a case in the process. I would assume they would likely have been declared as having a conflict of interest. Arbitrator's report/ruling I do wonder if this ruling sets in motion a move by the NHL to reject contracts like Luongo's.
-
The only name in Leafs history that I would argue is Syl Apps. He captained the Leafs to three Cups, with WWII service in between them. And retired while still one of the best in the game. As for Sundin, I would argue he was a fine leader and player, but generally had nothing to work with.
-
Absolutely. Question is whether they have budget space.
-
By the sounds of it, they're not going to. The rejection is apparently all they were after.
-
So now the question stands....What is an acceptable length for a large long-term contract?
-
Initial rumblings are that NHL rejection of the contract has been upheld.
-
That's not the most reliable source in the world. He deletes stuff that he gets wrong. Although this one is right because it was reported by mass media last night.

Hawks walk away from Niemi.

Just to be fair, Doughty does have an Olympic Gold.
-
Isles will buy him out if/when he clears.
-
Let me rephrase that: Teams won't be willing to give him a multi-year deal given his injury history and 35+ status. Witt has had a lot of injuries over the years and his physical style has taken its toll on his body. He declined to the point that he spent a portion of last season in the AHL.

James Wisniewski gets 1 year, $3.25 million arbitration award.

Lightning sign Dominic Moore.
