Well..they aren't getting Kessel back. Other than that, they'd have a hard time finding a goal scorer.
-
Now they just need somebody for him to set-up.
-
He can't keep doing that. This is the kind of stuff that catches up with you down the road, and I'm not talking suspensions.
-
I'm starting to think that Phil Kessel at $5.4/year might be a hell of a bargain.
-
Kaberle @ $4.25 isn't half bad. David Jones @ $837,500 for this year and next year is a steal.
-
If he didn't have a history of such plays, he might be more likely to get the benefit of the doubt. If you think past history and reputation doesn't play a role in these things, you're kidding yourself.
-
It has more to do with a player with a reputation for dirty/dangerous hits throwing a borderline hit. Referees are not going to give Ovechkin the benefit of the doubt in these situations. Ovechkin tried his slew-foot hit on Beauchemin on Saturday night, but Beauchemin got away from it.

Hensick cleared waivers.

After Nov. 1st, it's the current standings in reverse. So Carolina has first priority.
-
I don't know if it's a hit from behind of the malicious type, but it's charging (remember when they used to call that?) if nothing else. He came from a long way away with no other intent but to hit him hard. But this is a result of Ovechkin developing a reputation for dangerous hits.

There's been some pretty hefty Hall of Fame classes since then. He'll get in. Not everybody goes in the first year they're eligible.
-
Look, if Cam Neely got in based off of what he did before he got hurt, then Lindros should be in the Hall, too. I don't think it's right, but the precedent is there.

There's no denying that Toskala is awful. He has short stretches where he's quite good, but he quickly transforms back into the Toskala that sported a 5.50+ G.A.A. at the start of the year. He was booed as he left the ice last night. Gustavsson was cheered heavily once he came off the bench and again when they announced him as being in goal. Gustavsson had a couple rough starts lately, but he'll get a good stretch here to hopefully get some confidence again and take the #1 job once and for all.

I don't think it was fully international sized. I know it was bigger than NHL size, but I was under the impression that it was not quite international sized ice.
-
It didn't really make sense to build a rink with international sized ice for the Vancouver Games because they really wouldn't have any use for it afterwards. And with GM Place already there with 18,000 seats, it just made sense to play there.
-
The Leafs dominated for all but three minutes of the game when the Islanders scored on three straight shots and Toskala pulled himself out of the game with a groin injury. Gustavsson came in partway through the 2nd and only faced 7 shots. Still, they probably put 50 shots right into Roloson's chest. Wayne Primeau is the only guy on the team that will stand in front of the net.

I'd say Germany will win the most.

Here's the goal waived off last night in the Leafs/Hurricanes game.
-
Video review completely eliminated the need for a goal judge. Even when he was there after video replay was brought in, the goal judge's opinion was NEVER taken into consideration.
-
They will never do it in public, but the NHL does heavily scrutinize officials behind closed doors. It's of no benefit to anyone if the NHL called out their officials in public.

What size rink are they using during these Olympics?
MacK_Attack replied to LidstromIsASuperhero's topic in General
No, they play on international sized ice whenever possible. The Salt Lake City rink (the main one) was larger than an NHL rink, but not quite international size. It just didn't make sense to build a rink in Vancouver for an international sized rink when an 18,000 seat arena was already there. It would because it would sit largely unused after the Olympics (because Vancouver still has GM Place, B.C. Place & PNE Coliseum) and would sustain all kinds of operating losses. Have to look at the big picture. It just didn't make sense to build a new rink solely for the Olympics. -
He kicked it in to his own net.

The Leafs had a somewhat similar call last night....In overtime, a goalmouth scramble ensues and Hagman gets cross-checked into Legace. The puck is sitting loose just outside the crease and the Carolina defender kicks it under Legace....only he kicks it right through Legace into the net. The whistle goes afterwards and the ref uses his intent to blow the whistle rule and there's no goal.
