Gustavsson will be in net tonight against Ottawa.
-
Felix Potvin got burned out because he played behind some of the worst defence cores I have ever seen in the mid-90s in Toronto. He held a record for most saves in one season until Luongo broke it one year in Florida when they had a defence that was just as bad. Gustavsson shouldn't have that problem. The Leafs D is set for many years.

The difference there could be that Price joined the Habs when he was what, 19? Gustavsson is 24, he's probably a little further ahead of the curve compared to your average rookie netminder. That said, he's nothing until he's proven that he's for real.

Joey MacDonald was placed on waivers today. Gustavsson starts as the back-up, but I really question for how long. He'll likely get a few extra games to start the year (than a normal back-up load) because he's only played a combined total of one game since the rookie tournament.

Unless he finds a new attitude and some skating ability in Long Island, he won't be in the NHL for very long.

Common sense? In any case, I'm likin' The Monster. -

Yeah, they're called a "proxy" and they do work. Just Google Canadian Proxy and I think a bunch come up. Worst case: http://atdhe.net/9331/watch-toronto-maple-...troit-red-wings ATDHE usually blocks out slow connections, so beware, it may not work. EDIT: Leafs goaltending changed. Toskala starts, Gustavsson will play the 2nd and 3rd. -
Leafs lines tonight: Niklas Hagman - Matt Stajan - Jason Blake Alex Ponikarovsky - Mikhail Grabovski - Nikolai Kulemin Viktor Stalberg - Tyler Bozak - Lee Stempniak Jay Rosehill - Rickard Wallin - Colton Orr Tomas Kaberle - Mike Komisarek Garnet Exelby - Ian White Carl Gunnarson - Luke Schenn Jonas Gustavsson (1st & 2nd period) Joey MacDonald (3rd period)

The play-by-play guy isn't even a Leafs announcer. He calls Marlies games for Leafs TV. Greg Millen is the usual colour guy, though.

While Ericsson had him in a sleeper hold

Stalberg again, 2-0.

Listed at 6'3", 192.

Viktor Stalberg, 1-0 Leafs.

I like the looks of The Monster so far.
-
Keep an eye on #45 Viktor Stalberg. He is crazy fast.
-
You'd have to offer sheet him, though.

I don't know who the Leafs are dressing tomorrow (they don't announce their lineup until the morning skate), but rest assured, there will be more than one guy for May to drop the mitts with.

I'm glad to see Tippett back behind the bench in the NHL, if not for my own selfish reasons. My cousin Derek served as Tippett's video coach in Dallas for four seasons before leaving the Stars this past season for the Coyotes and a position as pro scout. It's a good sign for him if he decides we wants to get back into coaching.

Williams cleared waivers at least half a dozen times with the Leafs. He'll clear.

Darren Dreger reporting that the deal is done, the Leafs are just waiting for the Bruins to call and confirm the deal. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=291601

I originally wasn't going to dignify this with a response, but that wouldn't be any fun. You know, I've been here for like what, 6 years or something and I think you're the first person to ever call me a troll. I come here because it's usually a good place to talk hockey, be it Red Wings, Leafs or anybody else. I did notice that the description for this part of the forum reads: Now correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't say that only the Detroit Red Wings may be discussed here. If you want to go back in my six years of posting, you'll notice that I called for the head of John Ferguson for years....and hated most of his moves. Actually, I even criticized the Stralman for Primeau & a 2nd trade. I don't agree with giving up on Stralman so early, but there just wasn't room for him. But hey, why make constructive arguments when you can just call me names and make assumptions, right? I think you're just getting a little too defensive because you have an pre-conceived notion that anything the Leafs do is a horrible move, but that really hasn't been the case since Burke took over. I don't criticize others because they don't agree with me, that's the fun of debate. The only thing that bothers me is blind criticism towards anything the Leafs do just because they are the Leafs. I understand fully why it happens, but it never sits right with me. Comes with the territory, though. I think you're missing a key element when asking who is going to center a line with Kessel this year. This isn't a trade about this year. This is a trade that hopefully will net the Leafs a top-end scoring winger for the next 10-15 years. Maybe there isn't much at this exact moment, but the fun thing about Brian Burke is that all can change in a matter of moments. If Burke has a guy in his sights, he usually gets him. I like your comment about how you think Kessel will never have a better season than the one he just had. How many players do you know of that hit the peak of their career at 20 years old? Maybe it will be Matt Stajan centering Kessel, or maybe Grabovski....hell, maybe even Jason Allison. I don't know. I'm not worried about this year because this is just a development year for all the kids that are up and coming. It's a year to see what some of these kids can be in the future, and hey, maybe sneak into the playoffs. I think in the not-too-distant future, you'll see Nazem Kadri centering Kessel. Maybe even Marc Savard if he doesn't re-up with Boston. Who knows, but the Leafs finally have a young first line forward for the first time since Mats Sundin arrived. It was a huge hole that Burke had to fill and he just did it. Like I said before, it's a huge price to pay, but the NCAA signings that the Leafs made in the spring should help to somewhat fill the void of losing those picks. I'm just here to have some fun and talk hockey. If you don't like it, you don't have to read anything that I have to say. I won't lose any sleep if you don't.
