So is it just restricted to Air Canada flights, or even teams with their own jet?

He requested a trade. Didn't get along with Quinn.

400 games would be a better benchmark because that's the threshold to earn an NHL pension.
-
Probably lower than that considering all of the fringe players who leave the NHL in their late 20s and early 30s.

The current deal he has is four years, the next one isn't known yet.

At least they finally found a use for Maple Leaf Gardens.

What list? I don't have a list, never pretended that I did. But if you want to know who I think will be in the Leafs line-up to start the season, I'd say this based on what is on paper right now: Blake - Stajan - Ponikarovsky Stempniak - Grabovski - Kulemin Hagman - Wallin - Bozak Mitchell - Primeau - Orr Mayers Kaberle - Komisarek Schenn - Beachemin Exelby - White Van Ryn Finger Toskala Gustavsson I suspect Ian White or Van Ryn will be traded for a forward. Probably package up a forward (Stajan?) with one of those defenceman to get a better forward. Burke has mentioned moving a defenceman with a low cap hit (White) to a team up against the cap for a higher-priced forward. So what you see above is not what I believe you'll see on opening night. Still one more trade to come. Plus Burke has said that he has no problem sending a player with a one-way deal (read Mayers/Primeau) to the Marlies if he's beaten out by a young player.

No, you didn't mention them because they didn't help prove your point. You had to dig up minor league players to try and prove a point because the Leafs building a team that's actually going to be talented and tough is too much for you to handle. They'll be young and probably won't win as many games as they lose, but nobody is going to get an easy win out of them. And Ben Ondrus is the captain of the Marlies, that's who he'll be playing for. Mayers will be lucky to have a spot on the team out of camp. He'll really have to play well because there's a lot of kids pushing for his roster spot (Tlusty, Bozak, Stalberg, Kulemin, Hanson etc.). He did not play well enough last year to have much job security heading in to camp. Schenn's not a goon. He's gonna be a damn good defenceman.
-
I would say at least three of those guys (mainly Deveaux, Ondrus & perhaps Mayers) will all start with the Marlies. I noticed you left out Schenn, Exelby & Beauchemin. Are they not crappy enough for your list?

I've called it a career. I coach & ref, though.

The official rules of the CBA says that the NHL would seize control of the club and make necessary moves to make the team cap compliant. It won't get to that, though. Worst case for San Jose is that they have to send players (read Cheechoo) to the AHL to get under the cap.

One of the Leafs/Wings pre-season games is on CBC.

$332,000 over the cap with 19 players signed. http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=3&a...lary_cap_thou=8
-
I just don't know if their ownership would be interested in doing that. I don't know what kind of budget they're working under. The bigger problem for them is that Cheechoo is signed for 2010/11, as well. I suspect he'll be a buyout candidate next summer.
-
They can probably bury salary in the AHL as a temporary solution.....or get somebody to do it for them. I'm sure Burke would take a guy like Cheechoo or somebody of the like that's way overpaid and a 3rd or 4th round pick for some AHL scrub and then stick Cheechoo in the AHL (and then re-entry waivers if somebody wanted him).

Many people are surprised to learn that they were actually in the top-third of the league in goals-for last year. It's offense by committee, but it worked last year. Who knows if it will work this year. I'm guessing that guys like Tlusty, Kulemin, Bozak & Stalberg will all get a chance to show what they can do at one point or another.

He'll love Hamilton.

Kaberle - Komisarek Schenn - Beauchemin Exelby - Van Ryn White Finger Frogren There's 9 NHL defencemen right there. Chelios isn't better than any of them.
-
Yeah, he'd be about 11th on the depth chart. The Leafs have a damn good defence core on paper.
-
He looks like a guy that used to sell pot to my roommate in college.

Tomas Kaberle has given Brian Burke a list of 10 teams that he's willing to accept a trade to before the trade deadline. Reportedly, mostly Eastern Conference teams on his list. There's a strong rumour that if Florida moves J-Bo (looking less likely by the day as Florida continues to win), Kaberle would slide into Florida to be re-united with his ol' pal Bryan McCabe. Pavel Kubina is also going to provide Burke with a list of teams in the near future, as both players lose their NTC's this summer and would prefer to control their destiny while they can. Their NTC's are void from the first day of the Entry Draft until August 15, 2009 provided that they are on a team that misses the playoffs.
