Yeah, that's true, though teams can only send their best checkers out against one of them, provided that they're on separate lines. I'd wager that Crosby probably gets them. I'll also say that Crosby needs linemates to put the puck in the net, and Malkin has more natural goal scoring ability and can produce more by himself. I think it's also pretty safe that Crosby hasn't been 100% healthy lately.

You're absolutely right. He gets bashed for stuff that all other players do. He's just more visible. First of all, many players yap and complain as much as Crosby (maybe more), but he's the only one with an iso-cam on him the entire game, regardless of whether he's on the ice or not, so it looks like he does it more than anybody else. He didn't ruin his team by taking $8.7 million. HE TOOK A DISCOUNT! He's the face of the league, he had to take that kind of coin for the sake of his fellow players. If Crosby takes far less, suddenly it's harder for his fellow star players to get those huge dollars. I'd like to see the bashers turn down that kind of coin in their early 20s. It's not his fault his GM had the money to fill the holes and could only get Miro Satan and Fedotenko. Because he's not a natural goal scorer somehow detracts from his ability? The fact that he can hit anybody on the tape with a pass from anywhere on the ice isn't something that perhaps makes up for his unwillingness to shoot? Look, I'm not a huge Crosby fan. I have huge respect for his talent, but the bashing he gets is so senseless most of the time. People whined and complained that the NHL didn't use it's players enough to promote the game, so they go and pick a kid who has insane levels of talent and they make him the focal point of the league and then people whine that they promote him too much? Give me a break. He's the face of the league, they have to do things like this. It's not his fault that guys like Malkin and Datsyuk can barely speak English and lose their marketability outside of their team's area. Remember back 10 years ago or so when the NHL had no generational talent and people were begging for somebody to come along with an aura like Gretzky did. Crosby does exactly that and people bash him for it.

I think the Penguins/Crosby bashing mechanism some have in the brain acts before anything else can be processed.

Kaberle apparently doesn't want to be too far from his family. He'd prefer to keep his family in Toronto, so they say.

Well, the news keeps getting better for selling teams. Another team that may need to buy out of necessity.

He's been there before, he knows what it's all about. If Schneider got a 2nd and a 3rd, I can't wait for Kaberle & Kubina to get moved. Should be a good haul.

I think the NHLPA would've been all over him if the league's most visible player took a big discount like that in his first contract after his ELC. He had to get something close to max money. But hey, Ovechkin took $9.5 million and his team is doing OK. Maybe it isn't the money, but who is spending it.

Crosby did take discount by taking $8.7 million. He could've easily had $9.5 million (or more) like Ovechkin.
