And he'd also sign a deal that would make sure that nobody could claim him due to cap space.

If you play in Europe and then sign to play in the NHL in the same season, you have to clear waivers to join the team you signed with.
-
Trade deadline. The problem might be getting released from his Russian contract. Actually, he would have to be signed by March 3rd so that he could be cleared through waivers by March 4th.

It's not that people have to see the Leafs, but that a huge portion of the non-corporate season tickets are people who have had tickets in their family since 1947 (or before that) and know that if they give them up, they will never see them again. You're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Since the season ticket base is so huge (15,000+) there's precious few tickets that actually make it to the buying public, which allows for the mark-up.
-
Not just that, but some also count tickets given away, comped and other methods to actually get the tickets out of the team's hands. Some teams do actually report the turnstile numbers. Toronto is one of them.

I think Chara has been the best all-around defenceman in the league this year. The Norris is his to lose, IMO.
-
There was a quote from Ken Holland somewhere that had him saying that he wasn't going to put him on IR.
-
I don't know how much I believe it. There can be an NHL game with 7 people in the stands and it'll be reported as 14,345 people in attendance. Mind you, the NBA probably does the same thing.

Ryan Smyth re-signing with Edmonton was an e5. He even declared it on TV. He got the Hossa-for-Heatley about 2 days before it happened.
-
Good game for the Marlies. Looks like Deveaux is quickly earning his way back to the NHL.

LTIR players DO count towards the cap, but you're allowed to replace their salary while the player is out. If you're not going to replace the player with a call-up, then it doesn't make a difference if you put the guy on IR or not.
-
So what's Edmonton's motivation for making that trade?

Richard: Ovechkin Art Ross: Malkin Vezina: Thomas Norris: Chara Hart: Ovechkin Pearson: Ovechkin Selke: Mike Richards Calder: Mason Lady Byng: Datsyuk Jack Adams: Brent Sutter Masterton: Steve Sullivan Disagree. I think both Chara & Green have been better this year. Whether that has to do with age or his elbow thing, those two have played better throughout the duration of the season.

Not a chance.

Sportsnet reports that Sean Avery has been placed on waivers by the Dallas Stars.
-
The team he played a grand total of 2 games for?

To Carolina: Jussi Jokinen To Tampa Bay: Wade Brookbank, Josef Melichar, 2009 4th round pick

Cap room, but not budget room. They had to ditch some salary to meet their own budget.
-
Don't know about Brind'Amour, but Staal could play tonight.
-
There's a few pretty good teams at the top of the East. Boston & Jersey would be my vote, but we'll see how everybody looks after 3pm on March 4th.
-
He'll probably end up on re-entry waivers sooner or later. Somebody will claim him at that point.
-
Legace cleared waivers and has been assigned to Peoria of the AHL.
-
Absolutely. Lots of ex-Habs & Leafs fans in Ottawa who are now Senators fans.
-
I think the Kings will ride Jonathan Quick the rest of the way.

The NHLPA has said that if a team is to move, it will push for another team in southern Ontario. Jim Balsillie is obviously the guy they'll look to. Phoenix is the just the first of a handful of teams down there that aren't going to make it.
