There's another one, 3-1 Slovakia.

McCollum looks awful against the Slovaks. 2 goals on 5 shots so far. 2-1 Slovakia.

Colin Campbell confirmed this morning that the hit will be reviewed for possible supplementary discipline.

Toronto doesn't have a venue for it until they expand BMO Field to make room for the Argos, whenever that happens.

Just looking for a new reason to rip on Crosby?
-
Yeah, he's at the end of the road, but he played damn well tonight to win his 450th career game. Only the 4th goaltender ever to reach the plateau. Congrats, CuJo.

Don't be surprised if Schneider gets dealt to bolster their lineup. Labarbera gives them a nice option for the Manitoba Moose.

I find the World Juniors more entertaining because it feels like the players want it more.

Works for me. http://www.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?id=28407 The had wanted to paint the lines on today, but that's obviously not going to happen in the rain. There's no issue with worrying that the ice will melt, it won't barring a mechanical breakdown, but there was a worry about the ice getting too thick if the rain froze to the ice surface.

Montreal is the only team that comes close to being the Yankees of hockey.

Supposed to be back down in the 30s tomorrow, which will allow them to get the ice back up to standards. Monday is going to be the only iffy day for maintaining ice, even then, the temp. will be around 41F. I don't think it'll be an issue. Supposed to be 28-31F on Thursday. Plus, I read that the ice-making and maintenance system in place can keep the ice surface frozen in temperatures in excess of 70F. They can't paint the lines or white-wash the ice until it stops raining, though.

The "War Room" ruled that there was no conclusive evidence to overturn the call on the ice. They made the right call in the short amount of time that they had. There wasn't an angle or replay available that I saw that showed that when Crosby touched the puck, his stick was over the crossbar.

Not quite, that's the rule for RFA's who signed their offer sheet.

do hall of famers normaly have their numbers retired?
MacK_Attack replied to ben_usmc's topic in General
Retiring numbers is more of a modern movement. A vast portion of the old-timers who played back in the heydey don't have their numbers retired, except for special cases like Howie Morenz and Eddie Shore. -
No, but I was at a game at the old Boston Garden. Great old barn. Sat in the first row of the upper bowl and it felt like I was hovering over the ice. It was falling apart at the time (second-last season there, I think) but had a feel and atmosphere to it that was fantastic. I didn't get that feel at JLA. The only feel I got was that I was in a crappy old arena that needs to have a wrecking ball taken to it. Maple Leaf Gardens was perhaps one of the worst places to watch a hockey game, between the tiny seats and the poor sightlines in the Greys and Greens. But, there was a feel to it. This was a place where a lot of hockey history took place, good and bad. There was always quirks to it that took you back to the old days and it felt like a museum in ways. Joe Louis Arena is what, 30 years old and doesn't even come close to have a historical feel to it like those old Original Six buildings did. Most of the history of the Detroit Red Wings is attached to the team itself, not the building.
-
Joe Louis Arena is a dump, there's no two ways around it. If you're somebody like me and have absolutely no sentimental attachment to the place, you tend to see it for what it is. I've been to one game at the Joe, that was five years ago now, and I've never been back and have no desire to.

Madison Square Garden will be the oldest building in the league.

He apparently wasn't ready to play. -

I'm not sure you could make the buy-in for the tables that he plays at. -
McKenzie: Sundin likely to sign with VAN or NYR

How many players that get offered $8-$10 million take a pay-cut down to $1.2 million? That's what Sundin would have to do in order to fit into the Rangers cap structure. Paul Kariya is the only one I can think of, and he not only did that to try and win a Cup, but because it also gave him UFA status earlier in his career than he would normally under the old CBA. So let me ask you this...if Sundin had signed with somebody (say, the Canucks for $10 million) over the summer and went there and played half-assed because his heart and/or body wasn't into it, would you criticize him for it? For whatever reason, Mats couldn't bring himself to play. He's said it takes 45 minutes-to-an-hour of stretching just to get his body loose enough for a practice. I can imagine that kind of preparation has taken its toll on him. -

He would've signed with the Rangers this weekend if they had the cap space. The reason why he's waiting until the 19th is he's giving the Rangers until the roster freeze to clear the cap space. If he was in it for the money, he wouldn't be waiting until near halfway through the season to sign. That's already cost him a lot of coin. -
When the Leafs had their farm club in Newfoundland, they had a local beer league goalie who was the fill-in when a goalie for either the Baby Leafs or the visiting team went down in the morning skate or the warm-up. I believe his name was Dennis Lake. It's not an uncommon thing in the minors, fairly rare in the NHL, though. The Oilers had a U of Alberta Golden Bear on the bench last year, I think, or maybe the year before.

Just heard on FAN 590 that Joe Sakic underwent emergency surgery to repair his hand after an accident involving a snowblower yesterday. He's out for three months after successful surgery to repair three broken fingers and tendons in his hand.

A report in the New York Post indicates that Mats Sundin's agent has informed the New York Rangers of Sundin's intent to sign with them. If a deal cannot be reached with the Rangers, it's said that Sundin would look to sign with Philadelphia, who is already over the cap. http://sportsnet.ca/thewire/hockey/2008/08...itchin_to_lace/
