I agree, he shouldn't come back, but it gives him the perfect opportunity to save face with Leafs fans by coming back and saying its the only team he wants to play for, yada, yada, yada.
-
So how long until Sundin comes crawling back?

McCarty signed a one-year contract and is over the age of 35, so he wouldn't come off the cap even if he was sent down.

The NHL's injury policy has been changed coming out of last week's GM meetings. NHL teams are no longer required to specify exact areas and timelines for injured players. However, they cannot falsify injury reports (i.e. say a player has an elbow injury when in fact he has a knee injury). Basically, it gives them free reign to use "upper body" and "lower body" to describe injuries. This was done because it was felt that players were targeting players who had injury details made public.

"Head checking" is already banned at most levels of hockey, and is a game misconduct in some cases.

Despite conflicting reports, he was not called up.

The problem with Savard is that with Crosby & Thornton playing a bulk of the minutes, and getting basically all of the PP time, there isn't a lot of ice-time to be there for another playmaker. They'll be looking for more character guys on the bottom-two lines, guys who will kill penalties and provide some grit. Since this is being played on North American ice, there will be a intentional move to have guys on the team with some sandpaper. Guys like Morrow, Doan, Sakic, Smyth, Richards (both Mike & Brad) and Staal (Eric) are probably going to be considered before Savard.

London won't get overflow from Toronto like Hamilton would. Nobody is going to do a 2+ hour drive to London from Toronto (and probably at least three hours with traffic on the 401) on a weeknight in the winter. That can be a ghastly drive once you get out of the GTA. Whereas in Hamilton, they're currently working out the logistics of building a light-rail line from downtown Hamilton to Union Station in Toronto. There's already the GO train line, as well. It'll probably be possible to get from downtown Toronto to Copps Coliseum without having to drive at all or transfer trains. It is technically possible now, but it takes at least one train transfer just outside Hamilton. 15,000 people trying to get season tickets for a Hamilton team surely can't be a sign of over-saturation. Also, a team in Hamilton requires a less-costly renovation of Copps Coliseum, where a team in London likely requires a new arena in a city that just built a 10,000 seat OHL arena. That's also another issue, you'd lose a team with history like the London Knights, but Hamilton would gladly see the Bulldogs go for an NHL team. If London was closer to Toronto, it would be an option, but it's simply too far away. Kitchener/Waterloo might be as far away from Toronto as you can get without damaging the overflow from Toronto.

Two people had to have medical attention with cuts to their head. So two people have to be helped away with blood running down their faces and you just need a reason to bash Pierre McGuire?
-
He's not, but his wife is Kristi Yamaguchi is from San Jose. Anyways, I think Nathan McIver will be waived to make room. Brad Larsen is on LTIR, so they may have room to add Hedican right away without waiving anybody.

Former Minnesota Wild winger Mark Parrish has signed a 25-game pro-tryout contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.
-
London's too far away from Toronto to make it work there. Yeah, up on Hamilton Mountain, near the airport, likely. Although Balsillie was just going to renovate Copps Coliseum because he was prepared to go to court to argue that the NHL's "territorial rights" clause is illegal.

According to Bob McKenzie, the Wings have placed Darren McCarty on waivers. Also, the Vancouver Canucks have placed Matt Pettinger & Kyle Wellwood on re-entry waivers.

Of course there's no guarantees, but you stand a lot better chance of landing a prize chicken at 1st or 2nd overall compared to 15th or 20th overall. There's been a hell of a lot more 1st overall picks that have worked out compared to the ones that haven't, especially in recent years when scouting has become a lot more comprehensive.

You're lumping Cliff Fletcher in with Harold Ballard? Is that the level you have to stoop to in order to criticize a rebuilding phase? Contrary to your opinion, the Leafs have been anti-rebuilding for about 40 years now. This is truly the first time that they've stripped the team down on purpose with the intention on starting over. There's been no quick-fix and there won't be.

It's not that painful, they're a fun team to watch and all of the kids go out and bust their asses. They might get Tavares, they might not, but they'll get somebody that they can really build around. When you don't put the focus on wins or losses, losing by one goal or two goals isn't a big deal.

So have I. The more they lose this year, the better it is in the long run.

I had my appendix removed via scope a few years ago. I was out of the hospital the next day, but they told me that I couldn't do anything strenuous for at least week because of internal stitches that needed to heal over first. It took me about three-four days to feel "normal" again afterwards. I only had the little puncture wounds (three of them). I was still playing hockey back then, they told me I could start skating in two weeks, and would have to see my surgeon to get clear to play again in 3 weeks. Mind you, everything is expedited with pro athletes, but I can't see Lilja being cleared three or four days after surgery.

Mason's their backup, or at least 1B starter. Legace still gets the bulk of the starts there.

It would work. The casinos would likely buy up all of the seats and then comp them out.
