FAN590 reports Sundin to the Habs

Not really. The Leafs are in a position where that doesn't really matter at this point. If somebody is willing to ante up a few draft picks to sign Mats before July 1st, then I don't really care who it is.

FAN590 reports Sundin to the Habs

So it's Cliff Fletcher's fault that Mats Sundin wouldn't waive his no-trade clause? It's the Leafs fault that they tried to get something for Mats Sundin and weren't allowed to? Owners don't need to know jack squat about hockey. They hired Cliff Fletcher. They're going to hire Brian Burke sometime in the next 12 months. Fletcher tried to trade Mats Sundin in February and wasn't allowed to because Mats Sundin didn't want to be a rental player. They also tried to trade Darcy Tucker, Bryan McCabe, Tomas Kaberle & Pavel Kubina. Cliff tried to completely blow things up and he tried to start from scratch, but those five lunkheads wouldn't let him. By trading Sundin's rights before July 1st, they will get something for him. Going by your assumptions, if they ran they way you think they do, all that would happen is that they'd let him go on July 1st for nothing. That's not what's happening at all. I'm going to completely disagree with you because if the Leafs were a team that had no plan or direction, they'd probably re-sign Mats Sundin to a huge three-year deal. Clearly, that also isn't going to happen.

FAN590 reports Sundin to the Habs

So basically what you're saying is that signing with any team other than Detroit means you don't want to win the Cup? The East is so wide open that getting a guy like Mats Sundin can put you over the top. Montreal has a very solid young team and they need guys like Mats who are cagey veterans that can help the kids along. Now, they just need to add a little bit of toughness and they're set.

Hall of Fame Inductees named tomorrow

The Hockey Hall of Fame induction committee meets tomorrow to decide who goes into the Hall this fall. This is a unique year in that due to the lockout, no new players are eligible for induction. Notable candidates looking to get the nod tomorrow are: - Tom Barrasso - Doug Gilmour - Dino Ciccarelli - Pavel Bure - Glenn Anderson - Guy Carbonneau - Igor Larionov - Phil Housley - Kevin Lowe - Adam Oates - Vincent Damphousse There will also be one person named as an inductee in the builders category. Longtime NHL linesman Ray Scapinello is expected to be named an inductee under the Referee/Linesman category. Canadian Press journalist Neil Stevens will receive the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award for print journalism and Mike 'Doc' Emrick will receive the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster. The announcement of the 2008 inductees will be made at 3:30 tomorrow.

Larionov makes it into the HHOF!

He was also charged with assault for clubbing Luke Richardson upside the head with his stick. Ciccarelli is not going in next year. Next year is Yzerman, Hull & either Robitaille or Leetch, maybe both. He'll have to wait a bit. I believe he's 5th all-time in playoff goals. He and his 5 Stanley Cups deserve it. People boo-hoo about how he was lucky to be on those powerful Oiler teams, but he was a big reason why they were as good as they were. Wherever Glenn Anderson went, success followed and I don't think it's a coincidence.

Leafs to keep Fletcher as GM for 08/09

Leafs GM search committee head Gord Kirke said in an interview today that Cliff Fletcher will remain as GM of the Leafs for next season because the candidate(s) the Leafs are targeting (Brian Burke) will have expiring contracts after the season and it will be easier to be able to land the candidate of choice at that time. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...obeSportsHockey

    Why is everyone against Sundin?

Dallas and Montreal will be hard after Sundin. If Pittsburgh can find the cap space (and they might be able to), they'll take a run at him. I wouldn't be surprised to see Washington jump in there, too. Sundin-Ovechkin could be downright lethal. What it looks like will happen is that if Sundin decides that he's going to sign with another team, he will let the Leafs know in the next week-to-10 days. The Leafs will give him permission to speak to all 29 teams and when he agrees to terms with one, that team will trade for Sundin's rights.

Mark Bell not going to prison?

I'd say there's a pretty good chance he's one of the three buyouts.

Mark Bell not going to prison?

Bell has report to prison every morning and works for like 50 cents an hour or whatever and then goes home at night and repeats the process every day.

CTV buys HNiC's theme song (purchased outright)

Well, unlevel playing field because CTV is a private company with unlimited amounts of available funds, while CBC is publicly-owned. People ***** and moan out of one side of their mouth when CBC doesn't ante up for a show or on-air talent, yet ***** out the other side of their mouth for wasting taxpayer money when they do. CBC has probably the most incompetent management in television, but they get backed into a corner on some issues because of their status as a public broadcaster. They lost the rights to the Olympics to CTV/TSN a couple years ago starting with Vancouver 2010.

CTV buys HNiC's theme song (purchased outright)

CBC had plenty of time to renew the rights to the song and dropped the ball. CTV made a smart business move, since it gives them some added leverage next time the HNIC contract comes up.

Ron Wilson to coach the Leafs

Fletcher's staying on as GM for one more season, so they needed a coach. Also, it's incentive to lure Brian Burke in. He and Wilson are best friends. Also, there's not much pressure to make the playoffs the next couple seasons because they're going to dismantle the team in the next 20 days or so.

    Preds' Boots sued for fraud

Toronto Star reports that Boots & his financier tried to sell the 27% stake in Preds ownership to Balsillie, but the NHL blocked it.
  21. The agent for Mats Sundin, J.P. Barry, said recently that he has advised his client to test free agency to see what opportunities are out there for him. Sundin will give his decision to Leafs management, either retirement, play for the Leafs or test free agency. He is said to be leaning towards leaving the Leafs for another NHL team. He will not play in Sweden. A report in the Toronto Sun suggested that Sundin is seeking a two-year deal worth $14-16 million. If Sundin decides to test free agency, the Leafs have proposed to Sundin that he find a deal with another team prior to July 1st so that the Leafs can trade his rights to that team in order to get something for him.

Sundin may test free agency; wants big money

First of all, he's not on a decline, the numbers prove that. Secondly, Ottawa can't afford him, they're completely capped out.

Sundin may test free agency; wants big money

Montreal, Dallas & Washington are said to be very interested. There are others that can afford him if they get creative. Pittsburgh, for one.
